5 of 5 Best label printer software Thursday, March 05, 2009
A Customer from College Park, MD

This is my second Seiko Smart label printer. I've tried Dymo and a horrid Brother label maker and they all do nice printing but it's the software that's the clincher if you're really going to use this printer. Seiko SLP automatically adds postal bar codes to your mailing address lables without any extra work. Dependable and Vista 64-bit running.

4 of 5 Great Value and Solid Machine, Once you get used t Monday, February 11, 2008
    A Customer from Nashville, TN
The label maker is a great piece of hardware. Prints label after label without incident. Easy to load and reload. The desktop software takes some getting used to. It was rather difficult to configure, but once it was set up correctly, there were no issues.

    3 of 5 SLP-440 Room for Improvement Friday, November 30, 2007
    A Customer from Aiken, SC
This SLP-440 was purchased to replace a Dymo EL-60 that quit working after upgrading (?) to Windows Vista. Dymo would not provide an updated driver for the EL-60, so I voted with my pocketbook. The SLP-440 hardware and software installation is straightforward. The SmartLabel software is functional and easy to use, but looks like it was written for Windows 3.1. Labels are loaded from the front, but getting them started into the feed mechanism requires rear access. This can be frustrating because power cords and USB cables always seem to get tangled. Labels may not feed straight when first loaded, and this is corrected by removing the front cover, raising the pressure foot, squaring up the labels, and then reversing the process. This may sound complicated, but it only takes 30 seconds, and requires NO tools. Seiko installs one-button tools in Microsoft Word and Outlook, making it fairly easy to print addresses from either application. There are also one-button tools for a small number of other applications that are not used by this reviewer. Palm users will be extremely disappointed by the absence of a one-button tool for Palm's Desktop software. As an alternative, Seiko provides a "Text Capture" tool that can be used to capture addresses and/or highlighted text from nearly any Windows based application. The Text Capture tool is always available in the System Tray. When a Palm Desktop entry is highlighted, opening the "Text Capture" tool results in a label that gets populated with ALL fields, including those that don't even have data. The Seiko software automatically reduces the text size to allow everything to fit on the label. This makes it difficult to edit because the text is too small to read. This process is awkward, and doesn't come close to the elegance offered by competitive products. Seiko and most of their competitors use a thermal process to print labels, and these are sure to fade over time. This is not an issue for mail, but could be a consideration for labels that will be used on folders, binders, albums, etc. that will be kept for a number of years. Seiko claims that the SLP-440 can use ANY labels manufactured by Seiko. This is an incorrect statement, as older Seiko labels without black squares on the back WILL NOT work. In summary, the hardware works as advertised, but the software is not up to competitive standards. Seiko also needs to change their advertising to reflect the fact that not all Seiko labels are compatible.

5 of 5 Labelmakers Help Organize Life! Friday, November 30, 2007
A Customer from San Diego, CA
We have a labelmaker at work, at home & when my husband hired a new assistant, instead of flowers I bought her the newest Seiko Labelmaker. She LOVES it & my husband said she got 200 file labels done that day to organize his office... and she is thrilled that she no longer has to handwrite the same address each day...instead she clicks a couple of times & prints out the label instantly. Now she loves it so much, she's going to buy one for her home computer! Seiko's labelmakers are all easy to use...this one is great if you want to use different label sizes.

5 of 5 Easy to Use Label Maker Saturday, May 26, 2007
Larry Rakow from Cleveland Heights, OH
I own two small home-based businesses and had grown tired of hand-addressing all the packages I send. I researched the several different brands of label-makers available and purchased a Seiko Smart Label Printer 440. Set-up was incredibly easy, the labels are widely available, and the built-in templates make changing designs a snap. On the down side, the list price for labels is rather high (but Buy.com's price is terrific) and not every database progam's info flows flawlessly into the supplied label maker software. But if you use Excel or Entourage or Mail (on a Mac), it's fast and VERY friendly. Highly recommended (with those minor caveats).

5 of 5 Perfect alternative to expensive bar-code printers Sunday, March 11, 2007
    Mike DuBuque from Tewksbury, MA
We've been using the Seiko SLP's at work for 10 years. They are durable, reliable and inexpensive compared to other label printers. We have dozens of users printing thousands of labels every week. They print bar-coded labels with the company logo and the WEEE "wheelie bin" logo. They're perfect everytime. And compared to expesive Zebra printers, a terrific cost-saving alternative.

5 of 5 Easy, simple, compact Sunday, February 11, 2007
    A Customer from Stratford, CT
I have an office with 2 receptionists. Sometimes clients show up for appointments at the wrong day or times. Sometimes it is their fault or our staff's. This makes it idiotproof. this is a simple unit, paper is easy to order, there are 2 size of labels you can use. Installation is easy using the CD enclosed. You can even print a message on the labels. You can print from your word processing or from a list or from a schedule. Very fexible. We liked it so much we are purchasing one more to use in another area of the office.
