| | | Schwarzenegger: Mr. Olympia. Action Hero. Governor. Features: DVD, Widescreen, Dolby, Digital Audio, English, Hi-fi Stereo Backed by his wife Maria Shriver, Arnold Schwarzenegger (56) announces on The Tonight Show that he will run for Governor of California. Arnold spares no expense in assembling a team of top advisors. We flash back to pivotal moments in Arnold's life--from his childhood in Austria where his father Gustav would ruthlessly pit Arnold against older brother Meinhard (9) in feats of strength, to Arnold's peak bodybuilding days in Venice, CA in the 70's when, despite many naysayers, he dreamed of one day becoming a wealthy movie star. Arnold's campaign is marred by negative campaigning by his opponents and questionable things said and done in his past coming to light, but in the end his charisma, tireless work ethic and the vocal support of Maria win him the Governorship in 2003.
 Editor's Note
Like Ronald Reagan before him, bodybuilder-turned-actor Arnold Schwarzenegger parlayed his Hollywood career into a successful bid for the governorship of California. Directed by Farrelly Brothers protégé J.B. Rogers (AMERICAN PIE 2, SAY IT ISN'T SO), the made-for-TV biopic SEE ARNOLD RUN documents Schwarzenegger's evolution from action star to political pundit by interweaving parallel storylines covering the two distinct phases in his life and career. German actor Jurgen Prochnow (DAS BOOT) stars as the middle-aged Arnold, who, with the help of his wife Maria Shriver (Mariel Hemingway), navigates through California's tumultuous 2003 gubernatorial recall to become the state's 38th governor. Meanwhile, Schwarzenegger doppelganger Roland Kickinger tackles the role of young Arnold as he attempts to win his fourth Mr. Olympia bodybuilding title in 1974. Based on Nigel Andrews's gushing biography TRUE MYTHS: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, SEE ARNOLD RUN offers a revealing portrait of a man whose drive and charisma propelled him into the upper echelons of the American Dream.

| | Professional Reviews | Los Angeles Daily News 3 of 10 The frankly awful "See Arnold Run' finds Prochnow struggling with his Arnold accent and boasts a scene in which a priest praising Schwarzenegger for the candidate's religious virtue is juxtaposed with a flashback in which a youthful Schwarzenegger the bodybuilder (played by Roland Kickinger, who parodied the former actor on "Son of the Beach') cheats on his girlfriend with a woman who licks chocolate syrup off his chest, which sort of undercuts DeBitetto's contention that the film was based on transcripts of events from the campaign. - David Kronke San Francisco Chronicle 2 of 10 In "See Arnold Run," Prochnow falls achingly in between, making you laugh every time he opens his mouth and wince when they come in for close-ups. He's like an older, weirder Schwarzenegger, with bad hair and an incessant, cliched delivery. It's like a "Saturday Night Live" skit that never ends.In some twisted way, "See Arnold Run" is an early valentine to Schwarzenegger. It portrays him as a hard-working guy with big dreams who overcame his own personality flaws, scandal and failed movies to be governor. Unfortunately, it also portrays him as a German Phil Hartman with really bad hair. Sometimes, in the movie of your life, there's no hero who can save you from your own caricature. - Tim Goodman
