3 of 5 Never got a chance to use it... Monday, June 29, 2009 Kiley from WV
After quite a few problems with my computer that caused me to not be able to install the hard drive, I found that the hard drive was corrupt. Since I had so many problems installing it (bad fan that made computer overheat and shut off; had a hard time finding right fan because the computer is 3 years old; took awhile to get the computer to a shop to install the OS since I didn't have a copy), it was several weeks before I could install it. Buy.com did not let me return it, even though it was corrupt. Luckily, I was able to get it replaced by Seagate.
My advice: If you purchase this hard drive, try it out immediately so that you don't have the same problems that I did. It's not that unusual for a hard drive to be corrupt (this is for any brand), so make sure you see that it works properly. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Super fast performance Tuesday, May 26, 2009 A Customer from Milwaukee, WI
This drive replaced Hitachi 160 Gig that came with Vaio - (died suddenly.)
Installation was quick and restoring Vista premium using recovery disks was smooth...
There's a remarkable difference in performance using 7200 drive...booting and shutdown are real quick...
however there is a constant noise (tick tick) coming from this drive so i wonder if its some problem with this drive or usual for faster drive...
that aside...this is a nice and fast drive and you'd be happy that you opted for 7200. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 If you need PERFORMANCE, LOOK NO FURTHER. Monday, April 06, 2009 Mark Johnson II from Charleston, SC
The quick rundown:
Fastest HD i've ever owned (Vista Performance Index: 5.8 (max is a 6.0)
The Quietest HD i've ever owned. I never hear it.
The low power feature of this HD Makes it substantially better than any of its competitors. My battery life is drastically increased because of this HD, Western Digital can't touch this HD.
This HD runs my Lenovo X60s with Vista 32bit Business as fast as a Solid State Drive...Seriously.
Buy.com has the best price and great shipping.
I had no idea how good this HD was until I installed it, formatted it and installed Vista Business. My laptop is 2x faster than my friends IDENTICAL laptop with a regular 7200 rpm hd. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 a fast hard driver Wednesday, February 04, 2009 A Customer from east lansing,mi
this is a really good choice for my laptop thinkpad x61s upgrade, and I also compare this driver with fujistu and Hitachi's 7200rpm 320G drivers on the tom's hardware, this hard driver can got the highest scores.

5 of 5 Fast. Fairly Quiet. Sunday, February 01, 2009 BB from Woodbridge, NJ
Bought this for my DELL D630 - to run Windows 7 BETA build 7000.
Simple h/w Install. OEM version - so the packaging was simple to say the least - static bag in a shock proof two plastic mount housing in a perfect fit box.
Now. I am a little confused if it's the drive or M$ has a great product in the line. A loaded Windows machine (Tons of drivers at startup/iPOD/Zune/Nero/Blah Blah..) - 30-40 seconds from cold start!
This drive is extremely fast. Also fairly quiet. I have not really tested the additional strain of 7200RPM on the battery. I know it absolutely does, will test and update review.
As always an expected ~298GB formatted on a NTFS file system.
Two weeks and very happy so far.
On another note - ordered with Buy.com around noon - standard shipping - I had the drive next day at 3pm! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Best laptop hard drive ever! Sunday, January 25, 2009 Christopher Lee ... from Crestline, CA
This is the fastest laptop drive I’ve ever owned. I can see a remarkable improvement in my laptop’s performance with anything involving reading and writing to the drive—most noticeable, startup and shutdown. Not only is this drive fast, but it is so quiet I can not tell if it is running or shutdown (sleep mode). I’ve been using Seagate drives since their 5MB drive weighed in at 15 to 20 pounds (early 1980’s). They led the field then and, after using several brands over the last 30 years, I can say, with some authority, that they are still the leader. This is the best hard drive I have ever tested or used. Seagate has done it again! Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Outstanding upgrade option Saturday, January 03, 2009 Iluv2raceit from Colorado Springs
WOW! I decided to upgrade my wife's Gateway M-6843 hard drive. What a huge difference! Upgraded from a 160GB 5,200rpm/8MB on-drive cache to 7,200rpm/16MB on-drive cache. The Windows Experience Index hard drive score went from 5.0 to 5.9 and everything now loads much faster thanks to the dramatic improvement in read/write and seek times versus the old drive. If you ever wondered if a hard drive upgrade can make a difference, the answer is YES! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great laptop drive Wednesday, December 03, 2008 A Customer from Austin, TX
This is a great lap top drive, quiet, high speed, low power consumption and huge capacity. Great price too... although it went up a bit after I bought it. If your machine has the ability to connect both the old and new drives at the same time (eg thinkpad adapter which lets you put the second drive in the dvd bay), you can use the Ubuntu or Knoppix cd to copy your old disk contents to the new. Under root, use cat /proc/partitions to see which device is which so you don't copy the new over the old. Then use dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb or something like that to do the copy. Afterwards, use partition magic to stretch the partition to use the whole disk. Otherwise, just restore your system onto the new drive using whatever tools you normally use. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great drive at a great price Monday, December 01, 2008 Alex from Medford, NY
I've only had it running for a couple of weeks but so far it seems to be working flawlessly. Seagate offers the best warranty (5 years) and it's a very quiet and fast drive. It's a great choice for a laptop upgrade. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 supersize your Macbook Tuesday, October 28, 2008 Jeremy from Bethesda, MD
This drive works great in my white Macbook. Love to have the new aluminum one, but with 320 GB space I'm good to go for a long time.
Physical install was super easy, and OS transfer went very well. Drive performance and acoustics seem much better than the factory 120GB drive. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good deal on good HD Tuesday, October 28, 2008 John Davis from Brentwood, TN
Not much to say--its a fine SATA HD. It got here fast. Changed my life, saved my marriage Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great purchase Wednesday, October 01, 2008 John boy from SF bay area
I bought this unit as an upgrade to my Sony SZ381 series with original Hitachi SATA1 160GB 5400RPM w/ 8MB cache. So moving to this Seagate SATA2 320GB 7200 rpm w/ 16MB cache was a great move. All my work improved as it is way fast. everything loads faster by about 50% I guess the SATA2 helps also. However I have had this drive for over 2wks and it rocks. Hopes is stays like this.
I checked the reviews on this drive and currently as of today it is at the top for 2.5" disks drives. It does suck up more power, so your battery life will suffer. I am usually with my AC plug so i'm not to worried. I just like the new life to my 2yr old notebook. I think this will help it last fr another year before needing to upgrade. Was this review helpful?
