Works great with my XP Pro machine - powers down automatically and spins up quickly when I try to access it, so very energy efficient. I have only tried using it via USB and speed is fantastic. I got this drive to add storage to my Ubuntu server (I run Ubuntu 8.04 LTS server). I connected it using the USB 2.0 interface and it was instantly recognised. I used "fdisk" to erase the partitions that came with the drive and re-partitioned it to have one massive 1.5TB partition. I then used "mkfs.ext3" to create an ext3 file system. I use it to store lots of media files and backups. I'm thinking of getting an eSATA card and connecting the drive to it so that I get a higher data transfer rate, but for now USB 2.0 is fine for me. In short, this drive worked perfectly out of the box for me. Was this review helpful?

Arrived as a gift, powered it up and it ran for all 10 min before it began to self destruct its heads. Fortunately, didn't survive long enough to trust it with any real data. Research show these drives come from a bad lot. Was this review helpful?

Buy.com rocks. This is my first extrenal hard drive. This product shipped fast with the free shipping that was offered. i got it within a week after i oredered it. so far working great. Yeasterday i transferd my data from laptop to this drive and 72GB took about 1.5hrs with USB connection.it was NTFS ready. with on drive seagate drive manager software. i am satisfied with this product at this price.
