5 of 5 Great Buy Tuesday, July 01, 2008 Jim from Valley Cottage, NY
Price is right... Waranty is awesome. Most external Hard Drives have a 1 or 2 year warranty... this has a 5 year! you also get all 3 hook ups... USB, Firewire, and eSata! Fast and easy... Liked it so much I bought a second one for my son! Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Save your money - look elsewhere Thursday, June 05, 2008 Nick from Baltimore MD.
The FreeAgent I purchased two months ago can best be described as junk. First one failed power up out of the box. First replacement failed in one week with high incidence of write delay errors and frequent drive clicking (of course after transfering over 400 GB of CD audio.) Second replacement was no better with frequent write delay and almost constant clicking from the get go (head recals.) Seagate offered to provide RMA for another exchange. I paid shipping twice and they want me to pay shipping again and try a fourth one. I support 350+ workstations and I've had good past success with Seagate, but this model is poorly designed and of inferior quality. Don't waste your money or your time with this model. Not a reliable device to store your data. Even for "free" is would not be a good deal. Was this review helpful?

This was so easy to connect and set up. Works fine, and is really quiet. Attractive too. I use it for Time Machine back-ups on my iMac, and it does a great job. Was this review helpful?

It's hard to give a complete review - I've had this less than a month. Set up was relatively easy for both the USB & Firewire connections. Have not been able to use eSATA-type transfers; cables are not included. However, the eSATA connection is much faster than the 2 other types of connections. Like one other reviewer mentioned having to switch docks for different connections (USB, Firewire, & eSATA) is a downside. It would also be more preferable with a smaller footprint. On the upside, it's a Seagate, it's 7200 RPMs, shipping is free, & it has a 5-year warranty. Was this review helpful?

I was super sceptical about getting an external/portabele hardrive for all the pictures/videos/music/data on the multiple computers at home but I am glad I took my friend's recommendation and got this one. Its literaly plug and play easy to install and use. took 30 seconds t get started and feels extremely sturdy and durable. Glad I got it and would totally recommend it to anyone who actually cares about quality, durability, style and price. Was this review helpful?

I bought this drive with the intention of using the FireWire connection with my MacBook. The device comes pre-formatted for a Windows machine, so in order to use it with a Mac, you have to re-format it with included software. The software that Seagate provides refused to work on my machine and kept crashing, so I had to run Disk Utility to manually format it (a much simpler and easier option anyway). Once the drive was formatted, it took a few times powering it off/on for my computer to recognize it, but it finally did.
The only other criticism I have besides the setup issues is the power button. It's touch sensitive, which in practice is a cool idea, but it doesn't function as well as it should. Often I'll be holding my finger over the power "button" but nothing will happen. Eventually it will do what it's supposed to, but not without a little effort and frustration first.
Other than that, I really like how quiet it is, and the design seems very sturdy and compact. The orange glow coming out of the top and side of the case and through the Seagate logo provide a cool effect. The addition of an eSATA port on the back is nice to have if that's your thing.
Bottom line: now that it's up and working just fine, I have no real complaints. It serves its purpose well, offers ample capacity for all of my music and video storage needs, and comes at a fair price. I can't speak for Windows |
