Bought this one after trying the Fantom Green Drive. Measured power consumption over time (on my Mac as time machine drive) using Kill A Watt meter. This drive used about 1/3 less than the green drive. Also this drive is much quieter and has a Five year warranty instead of the One year that the Fantom provides. Buy.com lists the Fantom Drives with 2yr warranty, but don't believe it, they are 1yr warranty. Was this review helpful?

Plugged it in and it worked out of the box. Have already used the unit to restore files to my system and everything was fine.

I have had it running for about a week. I found it extremely easy to get started. It walks you thru the install. I wished there was an easier way to see what is actually on the drive, I had to act like I was going to restore the files to see what was on the hard drive. It is very easy to have it automatically back your computer up every night. I haven't checked to see if it actually backed up the computer every night like it is supposed to, again not an easy way to see the files. Was this review helpful?

This 500GB drive is good quality. Nice enclosure, etc. It is very quiet when running.
Don't expect much from the backup software that comes with the drive, though. It can only do incremental backups, for one thing. It also is endowed with some pretty annoying bugs. Getting error 1182 when trying to backup QuickBooks backup files. Finally gave up on it and used Genie Backup Manager, which works great with this drive. Was this review helpful?

Awesome external HDD. Works just like it should. May be able to find 1TB HDD for around the same price, but the standard 5 year warranty makes this the better buy! Great HDD. No problems yet. Just wish there was a power option to shut off the HDD when not needed on the HDD or in the options. Only an option for the LED lights. Was this review helpful?

I 1st purchased a 320gig freeagent go for $100 at Walmart. I then saw this on Amazon for $70 (didnt realize it was 4 desktop and not as portable as 320). I took the 320 back and bought this, after initial disappointment over the size, i decided to keep it and definitely glad i did. I purchased a 26in Samsung tv for a monitor and discovered it had a usb port for connecting hard drives to play movies, so this is perfect. Ive saw mentioning of the software that comes on these, i wouldnt know to be honest. I wanted to have more flexibility so i formatted it, now its like a blazing fast jumpdrive with ridiculous space. I even purchased a 2nd for my girlfriend for her to use with her laptop. If i ever need some more storage (doubtful since i have 2 WD 300gig sata's in my comp and this on my desk though)ill definitely look into purchasing another one of these. I gave the "ease of use" a 4 cos i feel the software should be an option after you register or something and not come bundled, but thts me. OH, love the 5 yr warranty also Was this review helpful?

It's just a external drive. It seems to be everything I would hope for in a drive and priced by Buy.com at a really great price. This product is pretty great. The only downfall is that the USB transfer rate takes a bit of time when you transfer movies or large files. Other than that its a great product for the money and the 5 year warranty can't be beat. Was this review helpful?
