5 of 5 Very good and trouble free Thursday, March 19, 2009 A Customer from NJ
Very happy with this drive. Though came unpartitioned and unformated. I did partition and formatted, put xp pro. Good amount of speed improvement is achieved because of buffer of 32MB ram. Works fine with my 1.5 Terabyte external seagate drive too. No complaint, I replaced my 320gb hd with this.

Run as a second hard drive. After 6 weeks it runs quiet and efficiently. Not plug and play as an external would be, as you have to load the raid driver for the system to recognize it. That's just normal procedure when you add a second internal hard drive. Simple installaton after that. Don't recommend making multiple partitions as windows assigns a letter to each one, and it's just confusing. My advice is to always backup your precious files on separate storage from your hard drive. When it fails it's gone for good for most people. It's cheap insurance to save duplicates of your files on another hard drive or dvds. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great hard drive Sunday, December 14, 2008 Greg from Paterson, NJ
I like the drive as you see from my 5 out of 5 rating. Buy.com price was great also for a drive this size. I build computers and in this case I used this one as a primary drive and it's working great. Thanks buy.com Was this review helpful?

Its in an OEM box.
Im pretty surprised to hear people say that its quiet. Its louder then my wd oem drive. db wise, maybe 30-35. my wd is about 20.
I paid $60 shipped and it came well packed, although it lacked an interface cable.

5 of 5 Good product, great price. Monday, December 01, 2008 Thomas J from Florida
I have built many different computer systems over the past 15 years. I have used Maxtor, Western Digital, and Seagate drives. I have never had a problem with any Seagate drive and chose to outfit my new server (and it's my first server at that) with two of these drives in a RAID 1 configuration. The server is built using a D-Link DNS-323 enclosure.
I installed and formatted the drives and was up and running in less that thirty minutes, that was including taking the two drives and the server enclosure out of the boxes and setting them up!
The drives run cool and quiet. I use the server and as iTunes server as well as a NAS for my documents and have had no problems.
At this price, it becomes a no brainer. Buy the drive(s). It's a deal. And you can't go wrong buying from BUY.com. Was this review helpful?

Excellent perpendicular HDD.
Cool, Quite, and Super Fast with 32MB Cache for a 500GB HDD.
500GB is an ideal size for a hard drive with 32MB cache.
Coundn't find any other HDD that has this feature.
Works as advertised 105MB/s speed average.
Recieved as OEM bare drive.
Stock up everyone.
BTW, I got this at $61...notice price has gone up a few bucks. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Barracuda!! Sunday, November 30, 2008 A Customer from Monticello, IL
Excellent value. I bought these to replace another failed set of Maxtor drives. Let's hope Seagate ( who bought Maxtor ) lives up to their name and reputation. At least these came with a longer warranty. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Quiet, fast, cheap, cool! Saturday, November 29, 2008 Shawn from Mesa, AZ
HD Tune numbers: 50.6MB/s minimum, 105.7MB/s max, 85.0MB/s avg, 12.5ms access time, 197.0MB/s burst. Runs cooler than my older 250GB harddrive and very quiet. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 A Wonderful Drive Saturday, November 29, 2008 A Customer from San Francisco, CA
I bought this same drive about a year ago on Newegg and just purchased a second from Buy.com to use in a partitioned RAID array. This really is a great drive. It's whisper quiet, very reliable and the speeds are genuinely quick. My average read/write speeds increased by 20-40mb/s from my 250Gb Maxtor according to HD Tune. I can't recommend highly enough, especially with a 5-year warranty. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 I like Seagate harddrives again. Saturday, October 18, 2008 A Customer from Paris, Tx
I really like this Seagate. I've had it about 2 weeks and so far its really fast and quite. It got higher scores than my WD Rapter on the first half of the test I ran. All and all $75 delivered to my door for 500 gigs and a 5 or 7 year waranty. I plan on running 2 of them in a raid for storage. Was this review helpful?
