5 of 5 Perfect Thursday, June 19, 2008
A Customer from NY

This is my second one. my first one was 320gb. Its plug and play basically. I keep mine behind my desk that's how small the footprint is. Its pretty silent, my computer is louder so this hdd is unnoticeable. I don't know wtf that reviewer was talking bout were he said its unstable. it has a nice weight to it and most of the weight is in the bottom so its pretty damn stable. With my first one over a year old, and with 5 year warranties, expect this to work for min of 5 years. But one minor thing with Vista. Vista has issues with everything. Like at first it worked perfectly then after one update it just spazzed out and the hdd was undetechable. This is purely vista's fault and i fixed the problem.

4 of 5 Quiet and fast. Tuesday, June 10, 2008
John from Colorado Springs, CO
I have had this drive for a month and it has been working very well. I find it to be very quiet and very fast. I was disappointed in the backup software that it came with. The software is very limited and can not be customized to back up everything you want. You can't configure it to make multiple backups or anything different then a plain backup.

5 of 5 Fast & Easy Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Dan B. from Green Bay, WI
I've had this hooked up and running 24/7 for a little over a week now and it has performed flawlessly. I formatted it for Mac OS X, connected it to my Airport Extreme Base Station, then set it up as a shared drive. I store all of my movies, pictures, and music on this drive and it's accessible from all the computers in my house. It's quiet and fast and has not overheated at all. I have it on a desk right next to the base station and the unit sits solidly even after bumping the desk a few times by mistake. I am in the process of importing all my CD's using iTunes and have it pointed to this drive as the storage location. Once I finish off the CD's, I will finish up ripping all of my DVD's to store on there as well. Again, quiet, dependable, fast, easy installation and setup. Couldn't ask for any more even at a higher price.

1 of 5 DO NOT BUY....THIS IS ONE OF THE WORST Thursday, June 05, 2008
Rajat Singh from Pullman, WA
I bought this external hard drive in September 2007 and was impressed by the way it looked and was happy with the way it was working initially...but soon realized that the design was flawed...It has no stability at all...The tower design is on a base that seems to be able to keep it upright quite well...But if it gets toppled its gone...I had been working with it while sitting on a carpeted floor. the hard disk just tipped sideways on the floor and started making a galloping kind of sound....which was because of the pin that broke off of the hard disk reading head rubbing against the rotating disk...It damaged it beyond repair and I lost data worth 300 GB that I could not retrieve...This stupid hard drive has caused me so much grief that I find the sites that are selling them and make sure that I tell people how bad a design it has...I am giving it a 1 on all fronts because it might be easy to use initially...but the bad design just negates it all...DO NOT BUY IT..unless you plan to tape it to your desk with padding around it...

Got this product very quick. It was very easy to back-up both my wife and my laptops. The software and hardware work great, plus a 5-year warranty to boot.

2 of 5 not so great for constant use Monday, May 26, 2008
melissa from ann arbor michigan
super easy to set up, runs quiet, lights not to obnoxious like some harddrives but I use mine all the time and have two set up for redundant back ups both the drives overheat regularly with my constant use, this slows me down and makes me worry about my data, after an afternoon of processing I will loose one and have to shut down for a while for it to cool off.. . not good.. a slew of other hd's have never had this problem, I replace / fill up 500 gb about every two months, maybe faster, I won't be buying the seagates again maybe this is just an anomaly and the two I got are bad eggs, but to make it worse I called warranty and to have them SEND a replacment for me to copy my work off of I have to PAY THEM 20 dollars a hd, easier for me to just buy a new set earlier then planned and not buy seagate again disappointed after all the good reviews I've read, maybe most of these people don't use the drives hard core

5 of 5 Quick, Quiet and Stylish Saturday, May 24, 2008
Marshall Masters from Scotts Valley, CA
It comes with Win and Mac install software preloaded on the drive itself. Setup is quick and easy. Between this and the USB 2.0, it is truly a portable save your data drive. Nice performance and power management. Very pleased.

1 of 5 not good with linux Saturday, May 24, 2008
jeff from Tallahassee, fl
It has a power down option that looses connection with the linux os, which when re-established, is then not recognized as usb 2.0 connection but the usb 1, with a very slow transfer rate.

5 of 5 Like a walk in the park Saturday, May 24, 2008
Kevin from Longmont, CO
This was one of the most simple and flawless installations I've ever had, which is odd because it was installed on SuSE Linux and none of the included software is for that platform. Hooked it up, configured a mount, and it's been flawlessly receiving my backups since. I don't know how it'll last over time, but in the short term it's been great.
