| | | Features: Checkpoint, DVD Sarah Silverman says what's on her mind. And no one else's. In this first season of the critically acclaimed The Sarah Silverman Program, Sarah gets hepped up on cough syrup, takes in a homeless man and poops her pants. With her unique perspective on life and her ability to turn just about everything into a song, find out why Sarah Silverman is an American treasure. An offensive, filthy-mouthed treasure. "...the brightest addition to Comedy Central's primetime roster since "South Park."" Brian Lowry, Variety "In a time of timid television, Silverman is the one shaking things up." Steven Snyder, Zertinet Movies
 Editor's Note
With her sexual and not-so-politically-correct brand of comedy, Sarah Silverman's potty mouth has made its way into her own television series. She plays a parallel-universe version of herself who ends up in a series of ridiculous and uproarious scenarios often involving her own, or someone else's, humiliation. No topic or outlandish idea is out of range for Silverman, who has made a name for herself with her stunning brand of shocking but undeniably honest stand-up routines. Season one finds Sarah drinking too much cough syrup, having a one-night stand with God, and adopting a homeless man. This is raw, cutting-edge comedy at its best, and each episode is another chance for Silverman to push the limits of a television show that might be offensive if it weren't so darn funny.

| | Professional Reviews | Eye Weekly 9 of 10 The first season hits pretty much every hot button - Silverman sleeps with God but then doesn't call him, cures her blahs with an AIDS test, avoids helping a friend move by claiming "I stubbed my vagina" and covetously recounts how her sister's adolescent pubic hair looked like "Cat Steven's face." Then there's Officer Jay's (sketch vet Jay Johnston) classic pick-up line: "You know, I believe the Holocaust was completely uncalled for"...Too often talented comics are shoehorned into crap comedies, so it's a pleasure to see the sitcom format retrofitted for Silverman's shtick. Of course, the calculated outrageousness of her routine - it aims to mock racism, homophobia and other societal ills by pretending to revel in them, though her love of toilet humour is clearly ingenuous - means this show is not for the easily offended. Real comedy rarely is. - Joshua Ostroff
