Designed to IPX8 International Standard for Waterproof. The Xacti E2 is capable of recording full motion video five feet underwater for up to 30 minutes. Incorporating a water-tight design that can resist the pressure created when submersed at five feet, the Xacti E2 is capable of capturing dramatic photos and video footage underwater to share with less adventurous family members and friends.

Incorporates the Highly Advanced AVC/H.264 Video Compression. This makes posting movies on the Internet or e-mailing them to friends and family easier by reducing the file size. In fact, the file size can be up to 25% smaller than that of typical MPEG-4 cameras. To accomplish the complexity of encoding AVC/H.264 in real-time on the E2, a H.264 video compression IC was incorporated into the camera that was designed specifically for portable consumer devices to achieve high video quality while simultaneously reducing the system power consumption. The result is high-quality video recording up to a total of 8 hours of full motion video with an 8 GB SDHC memory card (in TV-HQ mode). The Xacti E2 can also record up to a total of 4 hours of video with a 4 GB SDHC memory card, up to 2 hours with a standard 2GB SD card, and up to 1 hour with a standard SD card.

Large 2.5-inch Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). The display flips out from the camera and rotates up to 285 degrees on an axis that allows you to take great video or still images from otherwise-difficult-to-view positions, proving to be especially useful when shooting underwater or in small rooms.

Setting the E2 Camcorder Apart from Other Video Cameras Begins Inside. You can find an advanced 8.0-megapixel (total) CMOS image sensor inside the E2. The large sensor allows the E2 to capture high-resolution 8-megapixel still images in addition to recording high-quality digital videos with full-range stereo sound.

Record up to a Total of 8 Hours of Full Motion Video. Or capture up to 2000 8-megapixel still images on a 8GB SDHC memory card, up to 4 hours of video with a 4 GB SDHC memory card, up to 2 hours with a 2GB standard SD card, and up to 1 hour with a 1GB standard SD card.

Import Files Directly Into iTunes Software. Easy transfer to your video-capable iPod® allows you to share a quick video the next time you are asked how the kids are doing!

Ever Need to Capture Still Images While You're Already Shooting Video? The E2 enables simultaneous shooting of both 8-megapixel still images and 640 x 480-pixel video clips with a simple press of the shutter button during the shooting of a movie clip. You will never need to miss another precious photo opportunity. (Depending on the mode used to take still images, simultaneous video clip shooting may be interrupted. While shooting video clips, using the digital image stabilizer may change the angle of view for still images.)

Sophisticated Photo Face Detection and Video Face Chaser.Using a proprietary SANYO algorithm, the E2 automatically compensates for distracting up-and-down or side-to side camera movement, keeping your subject steady and easy to follow. It accurately distinguishes between unintentional camera shake and deliberate camera movement. This handy feature operates in both wide-angle and telephoto modes, giving every shot a solid, professional-looking feel. It can detect faces and adjust the focus and exposure accordingly. Faces are sensed even when they move, allowing you to track up to 12 people at once. Automatic exposure is applied according to the area, while automatic focus captures the person at the center of the frame. During playback, you can zoom in and enjoy those facial expressions in detail.

4 of 5 broken after 3 dips Thursday, January 07, 2010
mark from South San Francisco

I bought this camcorder because of the HD, water-proof, and flash media feature before a caribbean cruise vacation last year. The design is very sleek, HD playback is surprisingly good, and it's really water-proof. Down side includes low speaker volume, small hard buttons, no viewfinder (closed lcd screen turns the unit completely off), still images are inferior to a 5MP camera, and after my third snorkeling trip out in the ocean, it just stopped working. Luckily, the warranty was good; I called Sanyo and they instructed me to send it to one of their 3rd party repair centers in SoCal. After 3 WEEKS, it came back working again. Overall, it's ok.

5 of 5 Excellent for underwater coverage Monday, January 04, 2010
Niket Parikh from East Windsor, NJ
Bought this camera for a cruise vacation to Cozumel. Works like a charm - exceeded my expecations. Great photo quality at the beaches and amazing underwater video. May need to get used to the hard-pressing of the picture button - we asked strangers to take our couple pictures, and had to repeat a few times to press hard.

5 of 5 Does what I bought it for! Monday, September 21, 2009
A Customer from Seminole Florida
Made the purchase to have kayaking video. Everything works easily and it goes where I go. Changing to no sound allows me to get the shots of wildlife without any unwanted noises scaring them off when I have spent so much time to get close. Package comes with software that I have yet to master but seems easy enough. All in all glad I made the purchase!

5 of 5 SANYO VPC-E2 8 Megapixel Waterproof Camcorder - 2. Tuesday, June 23, 2009
Barry from Willow Grove, Pa
I bought this camera for Skiing & boating & it has been nothing short of fantastic. I love the videos& 5x optical zoom. The controls are small & take a little getting used to but once you get the hang of it it is a snap. You can delete video & pictures under the menu settings quickly & easily. It takes crystal clear video. I've had A Hi-8 camcorder & a DVD camcorder & the simplicity of this camera to use & review video blows them away.

4 of 5 SANYO VPC-E2 Thursday, April 02, 2009
A Customer from Princeton, NJ
Overall, this compact camcorder met expectations with all its features. The only comment is that under low-light conditions the recordings are dark, but this is to be expected. The largest concern is the battery duration; typically lasts approx 1 hour of usage. I recommend ordering additional batteries for any extended usage and a minimum of 8GB/Class 6 SDHC memory card. Otherwise, I am satisfied and recommend this product.

5 of 5 Sharp Underwater Camera Monday, January 26, 2009
A Customer from Cypress, Ca
I am very pleased with my purchase for the following reasones: 1. Reasonable price - There are some generic HD cams with much higher resolution out there, but this one is at least a Sharp. 2. Easy to use - The menus are easy to navigate and understand. The buttons are self explanitory. 3. The movie quality is ok, but the still image quality is much better than I thought. 4. Though I have yet to try it, it is waterproof! There are however, some things that could be improved: 1. I cannot delete (maybe I have not figured it out yet) movies or pix from the SD card using the camera. This is very inconvenient especially if you do not have a SD larger than 2GB, or if you are like me and are lazy about downloading your files. 2. The movie quality is not the best, and there are no other format options other than mpeg4. All that said, it is a very convenient camera to have.

5 of 5 GREAT product GREAT price Sunday, January 25, 2009
Mike from Alpharetta, GA
I have used super 8, mini disc and now, SD with this Sanyo product. This product beats the others, hands down, for standard video. I use it for shooting the kids games and outdoor instructional video and it is much easier to work with in the video editing mode through the included software. Very impressed. I agree with a previous reviewer about the record/thumb button - a little awkward to use but not a big deal relative to what a great product this is.

5 of 5 Great portable camcorder Saturday, January 24, 2009
Paul from Springville, Ut
I love this camcorder. I didn't realise that it was waterproof until I got it. The major reason I bought it was to shoot video outdoors doing active things like skiing, boating, etc. It has exceeded my expectations. I love how easy it is to work with the videos and pictures once they have been shot. I never want to go back to tape. The only complaint that I have is the thumb button is a little bit hard to get used to. It is perfect for what I use it for.
