Sanyo HPSSG2 850 Watt Indoor BBQ Grill - HPS-SG2

I was pleasantly surprised by this grill. It works as advertised. It heats up to desired temperatures in little more than 5 minutes, and cooks the food effectively and efficiently. As others have noted, it is effective to sear food using higher heat (around 375-425 degrees) first for several minutes and then lowering the heat to around 250-325 degrees to finish the cooking. The food is tasty and cooks nicely. I have found that its non-stick surface works well, with little or no lubrication with cooking oil needed. A couple of tablespoons of water in the pan under the grill are all that is needed to reduce the smoke. By the way, much of the smoke seems to come from oiling the grill or from residual grease that was not removed by cleaning from previous grilling. Cleanup of the grill is easy, facilitated by using the wet paper towel trick grasped by a pair of tongs while the grill is still hot. The tray cleans easily by wiping out the grease with a paper towel and then washing with dishwashing liquid and water. The underside of the grill can be cleaned with an abrasive sponge and/or light steel wool for baked on spots. Compared to other grills I have owned (e.g., George Foreman), this one is superior. For the price paid, it is actually a remarkable value.
