2 of 5 design problems Tuesday, April 15, 2008 A Customer from Holyoke, MA
I had email with Sanus about three design problems I found:
_________
1. After assembly there is a rather large gap between the front pillars on both of the stands. This is not shown on your box, on either of the 2 images on the Sanus web site, or on buy.com. Considering the effort made to design the stands so that speaker wire is hidden from a rear view by the vinyl inserts, somehow I doubt that this gap is normal. Is it normal, or is my set showing a manufacturing defect? ANSWER: "it is normal to have the gap between the pillars" and "I have a pair of the BF31 speaker stands and I used little strips of tape to hold the wire to the pillar. You can not even tell that there is a wire. I used black electrical tape because it is black and does not hurt the finish of the pillar."
_________
2. I cannot get the top plate screws flush down to the plate surface. I guess I could try pushing harder but I'm afraid of cracking the 'wood'. Oddly, there are recesses designed into the base for the screws there to go in flush or better. That isn't needed there, but in the top plate (where it would be desirable) the recesses are missing. I intend to mount the speakers with some tack, so for me I doubt the top plate screw heads will really be an issue. NO ANSWER
_________
3. Then there's the speaker wire holes in the top plates, basically right in the center. My speakers are 7.5 inches deep, with the wire posts in the normal rear position. I don't see how the wires can go down those holes without snaking down beneath the speakers. They may just squeak through the gap caused by my tack mounting, but then the wires will have an unwanted 90-degree bend. A better design would be rear-facing slots in the top plates to snake wires through. Or do you have an idea? NO ANSWER
_________IF you can live with these design issues, the stands are otherwise well made and sturdy, and a pretty good value. BUY does have the best price too. Was this review helpful?
