5 of 5 Digital reception quality Saturday, March 28, 2009
    Art from Wilmington DE

I bought the Sangean WR-2 because I had poor reception of the nearest NPR station with my old radio. The digital receiver performs much better, with virtually no static or fading. The clock radio function is nice in the morning, once the wake time has been set. Setting the wake time is a bit complex, though, so I keep the instructions near the radio. And it would be nice if the volume could be pre-set for the wake function, rather than be the volume setting from your last use the night before (which for me is usually louder than I'd like to wake to). Overall, a good radio, and fairly handsome.

5 of 5 Excellent and versitle radio Sunday, March 01, 2009
    Phil from Chimacum, WA
I am impressed by the Sangean WR-2 in many important respects. First, its features, which emphasize simplicity and versility, make it perfect for our off-the-grid situation. The fact that it can be powered by a twelve volt source, coupled with its capability to take an input from an iPod, mean that it will be the sole player of tunes and news in our cabin. Then, there's the sound, which is really impressive for a little three inch speaker. Finally, I'm going to really appreciate it sensitivity when we take it to our cabin, which is miles and mountains distant from the nearest transmitter. The only problem I see is that I'm becoming attached to having it here at home, next to my desk and computer.

    5 of 5 Great Radio Friday, September 12, 2008
    A Customer from Portland, Oregon
I was looking for something stylish and compact for a bedroom radio. The Sangean fit the bill. It has very nice contempory looks with wood look cabinet and the deep rich sound blows away most mini systems. Other table top radios in this catagory either did not carry the full sound or just looked like a black box. It does not create any ambient noise so it is perfect for night time listing. (I am extremely sensitive to buzzing and hisses) The Sangean is a solid product and a great value for the money. I would fully recomend this product.

    5 of 5 excellent radio Monday, June 30, 2008
    Sander from Skokie IL
I have the wr2 Sangean for 2 weeks and it is the greatest. Absolutely no negatives. I do not use it as a clock radio and cannot comment about any difficulties that people have in setting radio for wake-up etc.

    5 of 5 Pure Enjoyment Friday, January 18, 2008
    Michael from Las Vegas NV
I Have been using the Sangean America WR-2 WALNUT Digital AM/FM Table Top Radio going on 3 wks now it is a "Great" little radio. I am using it in a small one bedroom apt in the living room, so I have to weight my listening level with the privacy of other tenants the 3" speaker does this very nicely set around 35 to 38 volume setting Gives me pure enjoyment and on top of it not bothering anyone else at the same time.. FM Recption using the external FM antenna provided brings in stations very clean without any background noise thanks to the digital tuning of this unit, Only downside AM Recption leaves much to be desired even after adding a Terk advantage antenna but I think it has more to do with my location then the radio itself, I spend more time listening to FM then AM so really not to much of a loss.. Easy to set up instructions helped me out alot, backlit lighting has 3 levels of light faint blue very easy on the eyes, power button brighter Blue Easy to see at night. The unit itself looks and feels like "Heavy" for a small unit that it would cost alot more then what they are selling for at Buy.Com Excellent Unit for the Price, thank you Buy.Com, I have done biz with you before and I will continue to do so in the future!!!

4 of 5 Excellent sound. TINY control buttons Friday, January 04, 2008
    elmo from SC
The sound from this small radio is just great. Reception is great as well. But why the tiny control buttons? You must memorize what these buttons do cause you are never going to read it! Remote control helps - bigger buttons - but does not do everything. Overall, satisfied with style, size, sound and ease of use.

5 of 5 More than satisfied! Sunday, September 23, 2007
    Jim from Tempe, Az
I had very simple requirements: an alarm clock radio with good sound ( I've had a terrible sounding clock radio for years...could not stand listening to it). What I got with the Sangean WR-2 was a fantastic sounding radio (strong bass) with both bass and treble control. The general cabinetry / controls have a wonderful look, feel and quality to them. Aux input to hook up your ipod is there. Some of the nice touches: When turning on the radio, the volume starts low and ramps up. This is especially nice when using the alarm clock...I never expected it would be such a luxury. Being able to adjust the brightness of the display is perfect (esp. if you have it on your nightstand). The remote control is wonderful... when shutting off the alarm, you can use the remote(for either snooze setting or cancelling the alarm) If BMW or Mercedes built alarm clock radios, it would be just like this.

    3 of 5 Sangean WR-2 Thursday, July 05, 2007
    John from Kitchener. Ontario, Canada
I bought this radio based on some excellent reviews on the internet. The Sangean WR-2 seems to be solidly made. The remote that came with it is invaluable if you don't want to get up every time you change a station or volume control. The sound is very good, but shouldn't be compared to the Bose Wave radio, which, in my opinion, is in a higher class. My biggest problem with this radio is it's reception capabilities. I live in Kitchener Ontario and like to listen to CFRB (AM) 60 miles to the east, in Toronto; however, the WR-2 cannot pick-up this station, even outside. Many cheaper radios can bring this station in quite well - so I wonder what Sangean was up to with the poor reception capabilities. Perhaps this radio was designed for European radio stations where distances are not as far. An expensive antenna shouldn't have to be purchased to receive stations which I can normally pull-in on most other radios. The bottom line then, no matter how good it sounds, if it can't pull-in the station you want, it has a big problem. I don't use the radio as a clock radio.

4 of 5 Great Table Radio Tuesday, February 06, 2007
    Charles from Suffolk, VA
The sound quality is excellent and blew me away when I first turned it on. The reception quality on both bands is excellent. The RDS information works perfectly. I highly recommend this radio to anyone looking for a high end "clock radio". Buy it. You won't be sorry. The only criticism I have is as follows: the owner's manual is really bad, translated terribly. The LCD display has a rather narrow viewing angle. If you plan to see it from bed, you will need to face it directly toward your bed. Lastly, the LCD backlight is very bright and even at the lowest setting, is still fairly bright at night for a clock radio.

    5 of 5 Sangean WR-2: Elegant, simple design Tuesday, September 19, 2006
    A Customer from DeKalb, Illinois
I desired an AM/FM radio with a small footprint and a good reception and sound quality. I purposely steered away from boxes with detachable speakers, battery packs and CD players. I picked the Sangean WR-2 based on reviews of others on the web, after it became clear that the C. Crane Mini CC Radio release was postponed indefinitely. The reviews were assuring and I found them all true. The positives, as I found them: Compact, clean design, with elegance and simplicity. The simplicity goes for the looks, not for the electronics. It is also easy to use, but I agree with some that the manual should be kept handy - the alarm setting is not intuitively obvious and requires some button-holding to activate the needed function. Knowing what to press and hold is quicker than trial and error. The built in (AM/FM) antennas are quite adequate, which adds to the simplicity of installation, but external antennas can be added. I found that a strong, but medium distance AM station (WBBM) had in the background a slight signal of some other station, which my Kenwood R-600 would not have; but that is a communications receiver. The FM stations that I want to receive come in clean and with pleasing sound. The alarm (wake-up to the sound of radio) increases volume so gradually, it may take a minute to reach the full volume. The display (both with the radio on and off) has tree useful intensity levels plus an off position. The finish (some hardwood look) is very pretty. Note that it is described as wooden, not wood, a subtle honest admission it is a laminate on a wood composite. It makes for a sturdy cabinet with excellent sound. The composite may be more durable than if it were real wood. The remote - I question its usefulness, though - is cleverly designed around a flat button battery. Very flat and again, very elegant. The negatives (mostly in case the Sangean engineers would read this): 1. The alarm will start on a choice of a preset station, but it will start at the volume and tone where it was set when the radio was turned off. The morning AM WBBM news sounds much better with the bass turned all the way down (-7); the FM classical I listen to in the evening sounds better with the bass turned all the way (+7) up. It would be nice if the wake-up pre set included volume/tone preset as well. 2. The front panel is metallic and the chassis is not implicitly grounded. When I touch the panel or the buttons, especially walking bare feet, I will feel the "buzzing" of the buttons through capacitive coupling to the power outlet. Some people may not be that sensitive and find it objectionable. I returned for that reason a Toshiba Portege R200 laptop, which had "live" frame around the touch pad. There it was an issue of steady use. Here with the radio it is only transient and I can tolerate it. Am I happy with my purchase of Sangean WR-2? Yes.
