 Editor's Note
The final season of the popular sitcom from the 1970s continues the hilarity that was by this time well-established on the show. Based on the British sitcom STEPTOE & SON, SANFORD & SON was the first show created by Norman Lear that featured a predominately African American cast. Lear would go on to spearhead THE JEFFERSON and GOOD TIMES. Redd Foxx stars here as Fred Sanford, a struggling junk dealer living in LA's Watts community; he runs the shop with his loving but reluctant son, Lamont (Demond Wilson), who is always threatening to leave the business. Aunt Esther visits frequently, toting her Bible and her alcoholic husband, Woody. Donna Harris (Lynn Hamilton) is Fred's steady girlfriend, who is a nurse and a voice of reason in the somewhat chaotic life of the Sanfords. In season six, Fred inadvertently becomes a jewel smuggler, attempts to get his name in the GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS, and enters a Redd Foxx lookalike contest. Episodes include "Here Today, Gone Today," "Sanford and Gong," "Fred the Activist," and "School Daze."
