Figuring out the right way to use the timer function was a bear. Still not sure if I leave it on or turn it off. However, for those who want to watch that tv show or movie on the go, this thing is perfect. Yeah, its not HD, but while others are complaining, I'm watching the content I wanted to see. It works as advertised. Picture quality is ok, not great, but if you are just buying this to make videos on an MP3 or PMP, then it is perfect. It is even ok on a computer. However, don't expect a quality picture for watching on a television.

V-mate is pretty much a VCR without the Tape.
Just plug in almost any flash memory card you
own and record in any of the many mp4 formats
available.(mp4(iso), mp4(psp), 3gp, 3g2)
Then just remove the flash card and plug it
into any of your devices that will play mp4.
(cell phone, pda, pocket PC, laptop, etc.)
That's all there is to it!
Incidentaly I paid $69 for it on 10/2007. This might
have been an introductory price. I haven't seen
it for less than $96 since.
But even at $96 I will still consider buying another
v-mate if I find I need one.
I should also mention that I upgraded the v-mates firmware
by downloading the upgrade from sandisks web site.
I would really recommend you do this also as it will
increase the functionality of the v-mate substantially.
Like many other companys, I think sandisk released
this product a little too soon. But the firmware upgrade will
give you a noticeable inprovment in features.
I gave the ease of use a 2 because of the firmware upgrade.
If you get one with the v-mate firmware version 02.07.ww.b8
or higher I would give it a 4 for ease of use.
Programing the timer for recording can be a little tedious.
Just like your old vcr. But it does do a good job of changing
the channel on your cable box, satilite box etc. and geting you
a recording.
I gave the performance a 4 out of 5 because you sometimes see
ghostly vertical sync bars if you watch your recording directly
from the v-mate to your tv. It seems that the video signal on
the vmates input leaks through a bit causing some distortion of the recording durning playback.
You won't see these bars when you playback in any other device. Was this review helpful?
