We bought this to help us view things from the computer on the tv. It was very easy to setup and even easier to use. We have only had it a few weeks and I honestly think we got our moneys worth already!!
I recomend this item for anyone with home videos or anything like that. You can take the information anywhere not just to a tv but also to another computer.
I highley recomend this.
CON: the only con so far is a friend of ours has one and his freezes sometimes. Not long and it does fix again. We found that if we do not use the big play button and only use the "enter" we DO NOT have any issues. Was this review helpful?

If you are looking for a way to easily transport video files, be that movies, tv shows, or even video casts the Sansa TakeTV is for you. I have had no problems with playing the videos. The one set back is that the flash drive is rather large and you might need to buy a USB extender. It can really only hold 7.4 or so GB but its still rather large. It's as simple as dragging and dropping your video file to the flash drive. There is no software so take it to your friends house and copy his videos. The entire setup could easily be split between 2 jean pockets and taken some where. A must buy in my eyes. Was this review helpful?

This device is, in a word, phenomenal.
It's incredibly easy to use. The device's design and its interface are on par with the flashiest Apple product. Apple's comparable product, appleTV, is also 4x as much and NOT portable.
Long story short, imagine reducing your DVD collection to a pocket-sized device that seamlessly connects to any television.
For that matter, imagine watching any show you want whenever you want to, and not having to even worry about telling your DVR to record something.
The content store (Fanfare) is also slick and super easy to use. The only drawback is that its a brand new service, and accordingly isn't chock full of content (yet!). Was this review helpful?

Let me start off with this: I am very impressed with this product!
I bought the 8GB model, and when I plugged it into my computer, it recognized it right away. (Granted, the one piece isn't much more than a flash drive...) Anyway, I transferred a few video files over to it, and went to watch them. Worked with no problems (as long as I made sure to use the file types specified).
If you get files from the internet other than from FanFare, I suggest you find freeware that identifies the format of the video file, that way you know if it should work before you transfer it to the TakeTv...

This is a must-have device for anyone that has videos on their PC and wants to watch them on TV. Granted, it's not HD, but most TV's aren't right now, either. For non-techies, it's about as point and click as it can be without doing the work for you and it performs EXACTLY as advertised. Not many things that can be said for. Was this review helpful?

These SANSA products are solid state VCR players. You must carefully read the fine print to determine what format of video files they will play and determine if you can provide it. I do not use the Fanfare service. Windows Video is really too low in resolution to be viewed on a television of any size, so don't use that one. But the Divx format is excellent, and at least one capture product that I know (Beyond TV) will convert its native MPEG-2 files to this format at the click of a mouse button. Not only is the size of the file reduced (giving you more viewling time from the device), but the display quality is excellent. There are other converter programs available, but most are "herky-jerky" shareware. Connection instructions are excellent, but the user manual seems incomplete; you'll have to experiment a bit. Use the ?Info button on the remote to see the hrs/mins/sec. display while you fast forward. I found this feature by accident. For what it is (and to allow me to capture TV for my wife to see later at her convenience), the SANSA Take TV fits the bill. I'm happy with it. It's a good value.
I wish Buy.com had been more forthcoming with the delivery schedule of the 8G version that I bought; a got a lot of useless run-around when I inquired about my pre-order and finally canceled it. Their customer service employs non-native speakers of English, and they're obviously reading from a script. Shame, shame, Buy.Com You can do better. Was this review helpful?

Awesome device. Does exactly what I expected and even a little better than I thought. Not sure why the remote is so small though, it's kind of awkward to use and could have been made full size since there is no real need to plug the usb stick into it. I would like to see SanDisk increase the size of the USB stick but other than that I love it. Was this review helpful?

It's too bad this new gadget only supports .avi MPEG-4 files, which isn't clearly mentioned. I spent countless hours converting video to different file formats and two phone calls to the SanDisk Tech Support, only to receive conflicting information. Long story short: during my second phone call to tech support, I was told that the only format supported is .avi MPEG-4 files. If you're only interested in the videos on the Fanfare site then you might be pleased with this product. Was this review helpful?

I purchased this device because it was exactly what I was looking for. I'm a tech-geek, but I needed a device for the non-techie people in my house. Something easy to use for them but very useful and techie for me. Within 5 minutes, the non-techies knew how to work it. I just had to load up the content for them. Well, the Take.tv website made no mention that this device did not support Divx-HD. Divx is stamped right on the device and is the main reason I bought it. However, being that it's a 1st generation device and the fact it was so easy to use ... I give it 4 stars only because the last star is reserved for the Divx-HD model... hopefully to come. If you don't have an HDTV, I highly recommend this device. Was this review helpful?
