The ubiquity of digital audio players is becoming more evident as companies venture into younger demographics. SanDisk does just that with an MP3 player targeted at the tween , and possibly even the toddler demographic. Enter the Sansa Shaker.......read the full review
Sansa Shaker MP3 Player Review
By: Paul Moons - DigitalReviews.net

The Sansa Shaker is a small hour-glass shaped MP3 player and both its packaging and unique shake feature suggest it is aimed at children. Beyond its unique shape, the Shaker stands out because when you press the play button and physically shake the unit, the Shaker (what's in a name, eh?) will select and play a new song at random....read the full review

5 of 5 Excellent value Monday, June 08, 2009
Rich from River Edge, NJ

We own four Sansa Shakers. They are excellent for young children, especially children too young to read the display of a more expensive mp3 player (of course, the lack of a display is the players biggest weakness, as you can't directly access a particular song, album or artist). The two audio jacks make the Shaker ideal for two kids to share while riding in a car. Shakers only require one AAA battery and accept rechargeable batteries. The external speaker won't win awards for sound quality, but it is useful for playing quiet music in a quiet office, or for quickly letting others hear what song is playing.

3 of 5 Good If it works Thursday, December 25, 2008
Cher from Massachusettes
I bought this for my daughter and the first two hours it worked fine, but now it won't shut off. I wasn't impressed with it. the size it right for younger kids and the speaker is a plus, I just wished it would work all the time. It probable won't last long.

4 of 5 great when it works Tuesday, August 26, 2008
John from Boynton Beachj, FL
I've had two of these, and one was fantastic (my kids still use it), but the other one broke the first day out of the box.
Moral of this story is, there may be quality issues with this product, but when you get a good one, the kids're gonna love it.

5 of 5 A+ Thursday, June 19, 2008
A Customer from Fair Grove, MO.
I bought this for my 3 year old. He loves it. He is to small to understand how to use the ear buds, so the built-in speaker works great for his needs. We have had this for two months and he is still carrying it around with him. I never installed the software, I just dumped MP3 on the SD card and it works great.

4 of 5 Good for kids Wednesday, May 14, 2008
ramzing from columbus, oh
This is a good player for kids. It has no display so track selection is limited to next track or previous track. The built in speaker is a nice touch and so are the dual headphones. Sound quality is quite good. Runs on AAA batteries, so those have to be replaced periodically. Overall, a pretty good product.

5 of 5 The Shaker Player Review Tuesday, May 13, 2008
bjayran from Pensacola, Fl
I bought this player when it was on sale. Its my 5th one. I read some of the other "reviews" Didn't pay too much attention to them, cause all I wanted was one with build-in-speakers, because the one I had I dropped it, paid good money for it too. This SHAKER sounds good, looks good, price good and easy to use to. I'm 56 years old, and the SHAKER might be for children, but It's the best MP3 Player I own, and the cheapest too. My grand- daugther said "we all have "Sansa"now but I want the one Maw-Maw have, two can hear it at the same time with headphones and the whole house can hear it without". She's trying to talk me out of it, but I told her I'll give you one of my other ones before I give you MY SHAKER. But I'll buy her one for her birthday. I love it, love it, love it, it should be called the love machine. (she put the stickers on hers) love it.

These are great for the kids to use kinda chunky size for smaller hands and inexpensive so if they are lost or broken it is not such a big deal.

1 of 5 NOT a "Plays for Sure" player Monday, May 12, 2008
wordperfect7 from wilmington, nc
I have four of the e240, a View, Fuze, and in coming the mail in a view days a Clip. So when I order this player I just Assumed that it would work with my Rhapsody Subscription service like ALL the other Sansa players do. Imagine my disappoint when I hooked up to Rhapsody and it says, "Not a subscription device". So now I am forced to pay a dollar a song to put music on this shaker and I am already paying fifteen dollars a month for unlimited "Music on the Go" which Sansa and Rhapsody both lead the customer to believe if you buy a Sansa it will work on Rhapsody. Sansa should make all their players work on Rhapsody or have a Easy to Find Disclaimer saying it is not a "Plays for Sure" player.

5 of 5 My Eight year old Daughter LOVES IT! Monday, May 12, 2008
golphnut from New Hampshire
I bought this for my daughter, not knowing what to expect. She absolutely loves it and takes it with her almost everywhere. We've loaded all of her Veggie Tales CD's as well as some other fun kids song CD's. The controls were very easy for her to learn and operate.

4 of 5 kids love it Monday, May 12, 2008
jeremy from philly, PA
My three year old loves this thing. Easy to use - rugged and battery lasts 4ever. Best of all she can listen to "be our guest" 50 times in a row without any help. More mini MP3 players should have removable SD cards....very nice. The only thing I dont like is that it wont play wma files like EVERY OTHER SANSA PRODUCT....strange. Gave it a 4 for that reason. The shaker feature is useless for young kids....it takes some efford. My wife cant even make that feature work. That being said you wont regret buying this unit.

5 of 5 Good product. Bad marketing Sunday, May 11, 2008
Ezra from Jacksonville, FL
My 3-year-old was always obsessed with my iPod and quickly developed preferences with regard to songs he wanted to hear. When he was four (last xmas) I got him a Shaker (this purchase is my second one). It was the surprise hit of the season. He went through my iTunes with me and I played him some of the songs I grew up with as well as some of the more kid-appropriate yet subversive contemporary tunes. From my library we filled up his 512MB of songs and he knows how to navigate and find his favorites. He's tough on the thing but not carelessly brutal. It's holds up exceptionally well. I change the battery every 2 days or so (invest in NiMH AAAs folks; I only have 2 and they're well worth it). I think Sandisk screwed up marketing this to 8 and up. I think it's best suited to 3 and up. I saw it flop on the market and bought a second as a spare just in case. Hell, I've been known to use it myself. And did I mention the built-in speaker is good for little ones who won't take easily to earbuds? My biggest problem with this product is convincing him to turn it off when we got to Taco Bell. If you have a music loving toddler, you simply can't go wrong with this thing. His favorite songs: "Enter Sandman" by Metallica, "The Baker" by The Aquabats, "Float On" by Modest Mouse, and "Baby Elephant Walk" by Henry Mancini. Oh, and the opening theme to the first season of Justice League. :)

5 of 5 Sansa Shaker Saturday, May 10, 2008
rronay5204 from Miramar, FL
Undid the bottom piece, loaded up the battery, used the 512mb SD already installed and voila - I was listening to music. I put my 2GB SD and that worked fine as well. The controls are simple, but I never got the shake part going. I like the flashing on/off button along with the drum roll sound it makes when its turned on or off. One part I did not like was the bottom piece, which covers the battery, SD card and mini USB slot: it has a way of falling off. The piece is tethered to the main unit so it won't be lost. I velcroed the inside (only covering the USB slot) and that seems to keep it in place. Was reasonably priced. For its size the speaker has a good sound.

5 of 5 Nice little MP3 player Saturday, May 10, 2008
Dave from CA
This player has the advantage of having a small external speaker. The unit, otherwise is much like any other MP3 player. The 512MB chip included, makes it easy to transfer files - just put it into your computer's card reader. The only negative (and this is nit-picking) is that the external speakers quality and loudness are 7 out of 10. I would recommend this unit to anyone.

5 of 5 Daughter Loves It Wednesday, May 07, 2008
danielz40 from Tucson, AZ
Bought this for my daughter to use as an extra MP3 player. She loves it, it sounds good, has room for over 100 songs, and has a slot for inexpensive memory cards. Aimed at the younger generation because of its looks, shake to advance and ease of use, most younger teens will really enjoy this item. For the price, it can't be beat. I only buy Sansa items, I won't waste my money on Ipods. (Had one, gave it to my older daughter, hated it so much!) Apple overprices all its items, and any of their products don't have the value of their competitors. Only the status, and I won't pay for that!

5 of 5 Great little player Monday, May 05, 2008
Art from Los Angeles, CA
I have found this player to be a great unit for playing MP3 files. I enjoy the fact you can just set this unit on a table and let it play without the need of headphones. Since you can use two headphones, the output power is strong if you like to play your music at a high volume. The extras of a 512 memory card, a USB cable, headphones and a battery is a great plus for the cost of the unit.

5 of 5 Kids love it Wednesday, April 30, 2008
Customer from MD
I bought this for my kids, 5 & 8. They love it. It seems well constructed, the sound from the built in speaker is decent considering its size, the second headphone jack is a nice touch. My kids prefer to listen to the speaker, but for traveling they'll use headphones. The controls are so basic they have it worked out in no time. The shake feature is not as useful as you might think, but that's ok.

5 of 5 This is great! Thursday, April 24, 2008
Michelle from Jefferson, NC
This is one of the greatest little things I've seen in a while. I bought one for myself (I am 26) and it's great! It holds just enough songs for me to listen to while working out. Plus, unlike the IPOD I didn't have to spend a fortune on it. The sound is great too!

5 of 5 great mp3 player Monday, April 21, 2008
lmcabe from McMurray, PA
This little item is great. My 18 month old son adores music and loves this item. I know it is rated for 8 and up but I allow him to use this with supervision. My other children 5 and 3 also really love having their own music to cart around and a feature most people dont touch on is the fact that headphones are not really recommended for younger kids. This eliminates the need for head phones with the built in speaker. It really is a great product and the sound is great. I have bought many of these for birthdays. Highly recommended from a mom of 4.

I think this is a great p3 player for the $$. It would be better if you were able to pick a certain song or artist. One more item that would be nice would be a radio. Overall I am happy with the purchase.

Glenna Dolph from Canton, OH
My son loves this device. It's a super MP3 player for younger kids who love their music--512 MB!. For such a small device, the quality of the sound is really good; and it can be used with or without earbuds.

5 of 5 Great for kids! Tuesday, December 04, 2007
Carrie from Louisville
This mp3 is great for kids. You just push the button and give it a shake and it will go to the next song. And the buttons are easy to use as well. With a built in speaker it is great because most kids cannot comfortably wear the ear buds.

5 of 5 Fun MP3 Player Saturday, November 03, 2007
Brett from Everett, WA
I ordered this MP3 player for my 7 year-old daughter - she had saved her allowance for quite a while to buy one. We found the Shuffle and she fell in love with it.
Once we received it she found it easy to use, the shape is great for her small hands and the fact that there is no complex menu system (or any menu system at all) is great for her.
The only complaint is when it's connected to our car stereo the sound is not very good but through headphones and at a lower volume it's perfect.
SanDisk did it again!
