We own four Sansa Shakers. They are excellent for young children, especially children too young to read the display of a more expensive mp3 player (of course, the lack of a display is the players biggest weakness, as you can't directly access a particular song, album or artist). The two audio jacks make the Shaker ideal for two kids to share while riding in a car. Shakers only require one AAA battery and accept rechargeable batteries. The external speaker won't win awards for sound quality, but it is useful for playing quiet music in a quiet office, or for quickly letting others hear what song is playing.

We bought this as a birthday present for our 4 year old. He learned how to use it in just a couple of days. It took a while to understand how to hold down the play button for several seconds to start or turn off the unit. He now understands how to start/stop, forward/reverse songs, and change volume. Our favorite feature is the built-in speaker so we can listen to music as a family. He likes listening to everything from the Beatles to VeggieTales. The tip on using rechargeable batteries is a good one as we are on a second battery in about a week. It is difficult to remove the bottom cover to change the battery and memory. This is both good (for our son) and bad (for me).

This is a very good, simple MP3 player. My 6 year old can use this with ease. Plus she can use the speaker instead of always having to use headphones. The headphones are large for a childs ears. To forward to the next song, simply turn the knob on the bottom. To raise or lower the volume just turn the knob on the top. This works on 1 AAA battery wich is very easy to find so you do not have to worry about a USB charger. Very good for car trips as you can always have spare batteries. This also has two headphone jacks so a friend or a sibling can listen at the same time and not have to use the speaker. It also came with the 1G SD card. It also comes with a clip for a beltloop or backpack.

I bought three of these for $15 this summer. The best feature is the external speaker. It comes with a 1Gig SD memory card. I replaced it with a 2Gig. Now it holds close to 2000 songs. If you want a no frills "player" then this is perfect. Its designed for kids but everyone seems to like it. If the prices comes back down, jump on it.

I purchased this for Christmas last year for my two kids and my nephew. They worked wonderfully for a few months then had to be reformated. They randomly change songs without shaking or using the twist knob. Also will it will randomly delete songs. The problems occured with all three players that were purchased. My kids stopped using them after about 6 months because of all of the trouble.

I bought my son the sansa shaker for christmas, (It's still not time to open up the gift) but i decide to upload music on it, so it would be ready by the time it's x-mas. The only thing that I was not happy with was that the 'shaker' was not working. I've tired it over and over, but still nouthing! But other then that it's a great gift. 'Oh' it's not just for 8yr olds; My son's only ' 3yr's old'.

This is my 3rd Shaker, one for my daughter, one for my M-I-Law, and one for me. My M-I-Law is 65 years old and she enjoys this little cute player very much because it is very easy to carry, play, and maintain. External speaker is something that all of us enjoy very much. Cute looking player like should be rated 5.

great price , very good product . this is as good as any other mp3 , except that it doesn't have a screen to see what song is playing and it runs on AAA battery only ,if it ran when it was pluged in through USB cable , it would be great.

I'm very happy with the SanDisk Sansa Shakers that I bought for my wife and daughter. More importantly I am delighted with the fantastic customer service I got from Buy.com. After I placed my order, I waited an appropriate amount of time for them to arrive, but they never showed up. I checked the shipping information on the Buy.com web site and got the USPS package number. I then went to the USPS web site and IT indicated that the package had been delivered a full week prior. Well, I don't know if the postal worker left it with a neighbor or what. So I wrote to Buy.com customer service informing them of everything and after some consideration on their part (fair enough) they reshipped my order. Now that is customer service!

I bought this player for my 6 year old who can't get enough music. It's perfect. The size is great, the controls are simple (he loves the shake!), and the built in speaker is a nice touch so he doesn't always have to be tethered to headphones. There's no screen, nothing to read just simple arrows - perfect. On the flipside, it's also great for beginners or the "techno-challenged". I bought one for my mom who is both of these things - she loves it. She can set it on her desk at work and while the built in speaker isn't very loud, it's plenty for her workspace. Great!

The one looks a litter bigger than I expected, but the sharp is really cute. I buy it because of the speaker function, however, when the volume is large, there is some noisy in the sound. When using headphone, the sound quality is much better. Another shortage is the battery, you need to pay extra money for the rechargeable battery and the charger. Overally speaking, although not perfect, the product satisfy me.

This is a fantastic product. Easy to use, sometimes i use it in my car in AUX input. So it works everywhere, normal headphones, car and without headphones. It's so compact and if necessary it can accommodate more memory size card to load more songs. Watch out for the deal for less price on deals2buy.

I ordered this for my son. I figured it was inexpensive enough that if he lost it or dropped it, I wouldn't be upset. Surprisingly, he's keeping up with it well and listening to it every waking moment. He really likes it, it was easy to set up and use and I like it too....may even buy another for my nephew. I did not want an expensive or tiny MP3 player for my kid. This MP3 player was both cheap and not something that will get lost. I like that it has a speaker in case my kid breaks the headphones.

Super value, easy to use, lots of fun. Uses a AAA battery so it's good for those not connected to computers. The built in speaker has enough sound for use in a limited area. Limited ability to load music until I found out you had to create a directory to load the music. If you load directly onto the card it only accepts about 80 songs. I bought several to give as gifts.

Nice basic unit. Its simplicity and built-in speaker are its greatest strengths! What can I say that hasn't already been said? Well, I'd point out (for those having problems getting the 'shaker' function to work) that you have to hold the play/pause button when you shake it. It took me a minute to catch on to this, myself! Try again while holding the button, skippy, 'cause it probably DOES work on yours :-)

I bought this little player for my girls (3 and 7) and I ended up buying a second one to avoid the screaming. They found it very cute and I found it a very good deal (I paid $14.99/each). The sound is decent (I am using some Sony Monitor headphones) and I like that it can be used as a memory card reader. It doesn't have a rechargeable battery, but that doesn't bother me, I am still on my original battery after several good hours of listening. The best feature, IMO, it's the external speaker. For the price, I think it's a very good buy.

I just bought is this for my daughter, she loves music. The most striking feature is the builtin speakers. I like the player only wish it had an LCD display and able to scroll to a desired track instead of shaking and skipping a track.

It is just so cute that you are not even looking for a great MP3 player experience. However its quality is awsome and comes as bonus. It comes with 1 GB SD card, battery, USB cable and installation CD along with the MP3 player. tru value for the product. I love it and I am going to order a few more for all my nephew and nieces.

Bought this in July 08. My 5 year old daughter loves it. My previous Sandisk mp3 players were all great. However for this player, we were not able to make it go to the next song by shaking it. Also, the bottom keeps coming out. We have to reset the battery to make it work again. Pros: Has a good quality speaker, expandable SD slot, comes with 1GB, looks great! Cons: No LCD display. No folders etc.

My 9 year old loved this(she had a shuffle before this and never really used it) and of course when my 16 year old and wife saw it they both wanted one. Needless to say I've ordered four so far and may order more. The speaker works great. Not very loud but it's really enough for a personal player. Easy to put songs on. I just put sd card in reader and copy mp3s to it and put back in shaker. It comes with a USB cable you can use to do this if you don't have a SD card reader.

When I ordered the Sansa Shaker I expected it to be a little larger than it really is. As it turns out the small size was a plus. The 1 gig SD card which came in the shaker is a great feature. The "shaker" function does not work but the little player is still really great. The sound quality is extremely good even with 2 sets of earplugs plugged in at the same time. My grand children have had a blast playing with the shaker and it is very durable. It has been bounced around like a ball and still works fine. One of my 18 month old grand sons goes to sleep holding the shaker with an SD card holding his favorite songs. May be one of the best purchases I have made in a long time.

Our 3 year old loves this thing. He takes it everywhere and couldn't be happier. There's plenty of space on the card for hours of kids music and he never gets bored. He doesn't get the shuffle mode but he is happy to just let it play through on it's own. He turns it on and off and pauses with no problem though. The external speaker is very clear and fairly impressive for the cost. We've changed out the ear buds for regular headphones if he wants them, we just have to make sure the volume is good for him. We have had so many other parents ask us about it and we're going to buy extras. Highly recommended for any young musician or aspiring singer.

This Sandisk sansa shaker is an excellent mp3 player, the ease of portability outweighs all the cons this player has. Since I got this I been using in my living room, bedroom and Patio. My 75-year-old dad is going through dialysis and needs to stay quiet for about 4 hours. He has a Classical LP collection that I converted to MP3 format. Most MP3 players are small in size and the buttons are too small for him to use. This MP3 is great for him because all these reasons: 1) the red color stands out, 2) built-in speaker and produce very good and loud enough volume, 3) SD card is not built-in which means I can download music onto different SD cards and my siblings can download music and send my dad the SD cards, 4) the buttons are quite easy to use - volumn control and advance or backward to songs, 5) run on two AA batteries, 6) anti-skid bottom keep the unit in place. One thing that was hard is for him to replace the betteries. The top is a bit hard to open. Definitely want to keep the instructions on that. I bought 6 units to give to my nephews as gifts and one more for my dad, as a backup.

This little goodie is awesome. It has a nice speaker for the size of the product, and two ports for headphones or earbuds so two people can listen at the same time. It comes with a card that can be changed up to more memory, also comes with a battery. (AAA size.) You can either move the top ahead to the next song, or shake it and move it ahead! What fun! It's too cute, and great for any age. Kids and adults enjoy this cool little gizmo. Being able to hang it from a belt loop is very handy. Love it!

Neat idea, built-in speaker sounds surprisingly good. Clip is useful for hanging on a belt loop. My five-year-old loves it and learned how to use it quickly. Problems are: 1) if you neglect to turn it off after use, it seems to go to "sleep" and the only way to wake it is to remove and re-insert the battery; 2) The shake function (to move to another song), doesn't seem to work. But there is a next / previous song switch, so this is not a big problem. The bottom line is, I don't want my five-year-old listening through headphones or earbuds, so I think this is a great product for the $.

This is a great deal. My son loves his shaker and I am tempted to take his with me to work instead of my MuVo. It comes with a removable 1G SD memory card that I replaced with a 2G. Now the thing has over three hundred songs and its only half full :} Tons of room to grow. This a only a music player, no screen, no video but thats whats great about it. The fruity player (shuffle) will cost $40 more and it doest even have a speaker or an extra headphone jack.

Great deal at $15. Featureless but fun. No display and no options. Adequate on board speaker and two headphone jacks make it unique. Removable memory (SD card) makes it easy to change styles of music for different occasions (buy some extra SD cards and swap on the go). Battery/card slot cover is captive by short tether, but it takes an adult to put it back on correctly else it keeps opening.

I purchased 3 of these for home. My children range in age from 15-20yrs old and each love their player. I wanted something inexpensive that they could use everyday & outdoors when working. We are happy with the ease of use. Also the external speaker is a great alternative when you don't want to bother with earbuds. It sounds good (you're not paying for high quality speakers here), and with the earbuds it sounds great. If the player wears out, we can always use the SD card for our cameras.

My 6-year-old grandson loves this. The speaker is a real plus, though the included headphones fit him fine. The removable SD card makes it extremely easy to add or remove songs, as most computers have card readers and you can drag and drop. After having mp3 players with various batteries, I've found that the AAA is the best; they last long, are easy to find in any store, and you can use NIMH rechargeables. The one issue I have is that there's no good way to skip around; I put songs, stories, and other favorites on the card, but there's no way to navigate, other than fast forward/reverse, jump to next/previous song, or the random "shaker" option. But for the price, it's a great bargain, and for a kid's player I don't know of any better at any price. OK for an adult if you don't mind not being able to navigate easily. At first this unit would freeze up at times; formatting the memory card in the computer, then putting the songs back on fixed it. My grandson jumped into the pool with this on his belt loop. I removed the battery, let it dry thoroughly in a warm spot, and it works perfectly again.

I hate dealing with a tangled headphone cable so I love using the built-in speaker. Volume and sound quality is surprisingly good. Songs play in the order they are loaded on the SD card. Loading the player is easy. Hook the player to the computer and copy music using drag-n-drop. I bought three of these MP3 players and gave 2 away as gifts. I set mine on my desk and let it play while I work. I use a rechargeable battery in the player for hours of listening plus keep a spare handy for quick replacement.

Very simple to set up and use. Comes with 1GB SD type card that should hold hundreds of songs. I bought for my son to take to overnight/sleep away camp where you can't charge an iPod. This unit runs on easy to replace batteries. You can't move songs from iPod or iTunes to this devices, but it is simply to move MP3 songs or those converted. Just plug in USB cable, computer shows Sansa as an external hard drive and you drag and drop. Had unit unwrapped, hooked up to computer and 200+ songs on unit in under 30 minutes. Only issue, which is major, is sound quality from speaker is poor, especially compared to iPod or similar. But my son is enjoying.

I reviewed this before and said the shake function doesn't work, my 11 year old showed me how to do it. I've bought three of these, two for my girls and one for a gift. I highly recommend re-chargeable batteries as my girls never put these down. Adding songs is a breeze drag and drop on the card or with the usb cord. The speaker is nice, not the best sound but for the price it's right. For the player, battery, 1GB sd card, usb cable and lanyard for under twenty bucks how can you go wrong? I like them , but the kids love them. No more scratched CD's . These are also well put together. Another great deal from BUY.com I will purchase from Buy.com again

I love this mp3 player! I bought it for my 4 yr old grandson. He has no problem working it & I love the fact that it has a speaker. This way we don't have to worry about earphones. With the enclosed clip I just put it on a lanyard & he wears it around his neck all day.The only drawback is that it goes thru the AA battery needed rather quickly. I'm buying another for my infant grandson to put his lullabys on.
