| | | | Product Guides | | | | The ImageMate 6 in 1 Reader/Writer SDDR-86 is the first-of-its kind, Hi-Speed USB 2.0 multi-card Reader/Writer that connects to your computer's USB 2.0 port. Because USB 2.0 devices are backwards compatible with USB 1.1 ports, the ImageMate 6 in 1 Reader/Writer will work with all existing USB ports. The ImageMate 6 in 1 provides the ability to write data to and read data from flash memory without connecting your digital device (digital camera, handheld computer, digital music player, etc.) directly to a computer.

5 of 5 This is the BEST 6-in-1 ever made!!!!! Tuesday, August 26, 2003 SanDisk Fan #1 from Tulsa, OK
This is the BEST 6-in-1 ever made!!!!! I have had the opportunity to use several of these readers that can use different kinds of memory cards. This is by far the superior product. Fantastic, I just love it so much. Buy this right now and you will be glad you did. This thing rules the roost!

5 of 5 Very Slick! Tuesday, July 29, 2003 A Customer from Palatine, IL
Just purchased the 6 in 1 reader for my niece at college. Wanted something compact, versatile and was able to replace the constance switching between the CD and Floppy Drive. This does fit the bill. I will definitely recommend this to others who may have multiple media types to read, and also to anyone who wants to replace an old slow floppy with a very versatile device. Was this review helpful?

How SanDisk gets away with selling this junk is beyond comprehension. This buggy reader DOES NOT WORK WITH ALL FASH CARDS!!!! While it seems to work with my Viking card is refuses to work at all with SimpleTech. Also, every time Windows XP loads it wants to uninstall the reader. This is most disturbing since it is supposed to use the built in XP drivers to run. SanDisk says nothing on it's website and provides no software or suggestions to fix these problems. That's a shame since you would think a large well known company would want to take care of their customers. That, alone, is enough reason to stay away from this product. Was this review helpful?

I only use compact flash cards in my cameras, but one of the cameras my wife uses is smart media - as are my daughter's cameras. So I thought this would be a great deal - get a CF and SM reader with the other formats "free".
Well, it turns out that the 6-in-1 can't read all CF cards. Just like the other reviews say - my Viking CF will not read at all, and there is way to tell what other brands and sizes of CF cards will not read.
Sandisk is aware of the problem and claims they are working on it. It would seem unlikely that this could be fixed by a "firmware upgrade" as I was told. If they ever do fix it, we may have to return these for replacement.
The other potential problem is that this 6-in-1 (which actually has 4 slots) uses up 4 drive letters. This may not be a big deal, but if you are on a network and have a lot of mapped drives it could be. The Sandisk CF/SM reader on my wife's PC uses up 2 letters.
I have always thought highly of Sandisk and this has been the first product of theirs that has been a let down.
A lot of the other 6-in-1 type readers look similar - I don't know if they will work any better or not.
I think the best thing is to get the single reader you need, and don't worry about these extra formats - or try one of the other brands.

This reader will not work with all CompactFlash cards and there is no way to know which ones. The 16Mb card that came with my camera works fine but it will not read the 256Mb SimpleTech card I bought from Buy.com. The FAQ part of the Sandisk Support site says the following:
Symptom: Some CompactFlashâ„¢ cards will not work in the SDDR-86.
Cause: The cause is still under investigation at this time.
Solution: SanDisk is aware of this issue and will have a solution for our customers as soon as possible.
This has been their position on this problem for quite some time and I would not recommend buying this product for use with CompactFlash cards. I have not tried any of the other supported card formats.

Be aware. This reader does not work with Viking 256M CF card. I am using Dell Dimention 4550, xp home. It seems to work perfectly when I plug it in USB port until I insert my Viking 256MB CF card. The green LED does not turn on. I then pull the CF card out and all the removal drive icon disappear. I wasn't sure if it is reader or CF card problem until I got another flash reader which read Viking CF card. I also read the review on Amazon.com which state the problem to read non-sandisk CF card. I wish some one to tell me earlier this issue before I purchased this product. I decide to return the product. Hopefully, I will get my money back. Was this review helpful?

I love this card reader! I have used it for Multi-media, Compact Flash, and Secure Digital cards and it works just great. The only problem is that the pins for CF card and SD/MMC are very fragile, and both sets bent badly (I got it working, but will order a new one since it isn't reliable at this point). I don't know if this is only a pin strength problem or may be also a demensional problem with the slots. I have two Sandisk Imagemates, and they are much more rugged.. lots of use and never a bent pin. Still, this is one of my favorite peripherals to use! Was this review helpful?

Install is easy, and as long as you keep the format FAT, it's fine. Like most, will not read encrypted flash from mp3 players, but is hella fast. Great stainless look with mounting dock - looks classy. Great value! Was this review helpful?

I am always happy when a product works as it is described to work. This procuct is a great way to upgrade because it replaces one or more different card readers and boosts the speed all at once. The speed difference is noticable. You will need to load a driver unless you use me, xp or 2k-sp3. I use 2k-sp2 so I loaded the driver, rebooted and then plugged it in. I gave ease of use a 4 because Windows needed to install 6 drivers when first plugged in after the driver was loaded. Each one prompted for a reboot. I said no to each one and then rebooted after all 6 were finished. Worked fine. Like all card readers that only happens on first use. It is easy to use after that. Was this review helpful?
