The Samsung NC10 doesn't exactly break the mould when it comes to design. It's a standard 10.2-inch Netbook that in terms of design sits squarely between the Asus Eee PC 1000 and the MSI Wind....read the full review

4 of 5 Good Netbook Monday, April 13, 2009
A Customer from Bolingbrook, IL

My wife wanted a notebook that was small, lightweight and good battery power. This netbook delivered on all accounts. In addition, the keyboard is great. We added some extra ram (2gb total) after we purchased the netbook. In my experiences with typical laptops, when I see down to 10% power, I need to start hunting for a power outlet. With this one, when I moused over the battery meter, it read (10% 1hour 3min left). That is like having almost 33% power left on my laptop! She uses it primarily to surf the web while the kids are at the library or at a community facility. She also uses it in the kitchen to watch video, or music while she is cooking, or doing other things. The speaker is pretty decent for it's size. Better than the Wind we had for a short period before. It also gets used for the occasional word document, or excel spreadsheet. My wife likes to keep things organized and in inventory, so the notebook has replaced her trusty notepad for those types of things. I found a few drawbacks - but I can be a bit picky at times. - touch pad is a bit touch and go. Works fine, then not so sensitive, then works fine again. My wife is fine with it and uses a little USB mouse that goes into the carrying case we bought. So, she doesn't have that complaint. - We both found that it can be slow at times, but then catches up. 95% of the time it does what we ask without any slowdown. - 600 pixels tall is a bit cumbersome at times. I wish it was at least 800 pixels tall, as some applications are just built to work in 800 pixels tall and so scrolling may not be possible. But that is not the fault of this specific netbook, it is an issue with netbooks in general. Overall great netbook - I would buy it again.

5 of 5 Great to travel with Sunday, April 12, 2009
A Customer from Kansas City
I took this on a three week trip overseas and LOVED traveling with it. So portable and lightweight. I took side trips while on my journey and found it so wonderful to have. I downloaded Skype and was able to keep in touch with family back in the States for free. This mini-laptop is well worth the money.

5 of 5 Perfect solution for 12 year old middle-schooler Sunday, March 29, 2009
Robert from Irvine, Ca
My child needed a computer. Tired of having to type junior's reports since the "family" computer with Internet access is not attached to a printer. I thought I'd pull out one of my old desk-tops; when I did, it was too out of date. Now what? I asked my wife. We'll, junior wanted a laptop so I started shopping. I found this. All the power of a laptop at a lower price with an amazing "cool" factor. Added MS office student version and this has more power and speed than my two-year-old, Fujitsu laptop. Junior is the envy of their friends. When junior is old enough to take this to school, it will fit nicely on a desk and is light in the back-pack. No-one would even know it was there as most of junior's books are bigger than this. Great battery life. The perfect solution.

5 of 5 Netbook - The greatest innovation since laptop. Wednesday, March 11, 2009
Raj from Richmond, Kentucky.
I consider myself an advance computer user. I am not a multimedia buff. I primarily use Kubuntu(Linux) operating system. I am yet to try Linux on this netbook. We-humans always like to test the boundaries. So, even though this is a netbook, I am experimenting with many non-internet-centric applications. It has an acceptable sound. With headphones, it is does great. With a 22" LCD monitor the dual screen worked very well without any performace problems. OpenOffice(free) for word documents works well. With my mild dyslexia, I am using this netbook to read books. It performs outstanding with Read Write Gold, a text-to-speech software. With Dragon Naturally Speaking(speech-to-text), this netbook performs very poor. It takes longer to dictate than to type. This week, I am going to add 2GB RAM to see if it performs any better. Keyboard seems comfortable. My fingers continued to fight with one another on the smaller netbooks. This netbook has an average horse-power as compared to other netbooks. However, NC10 has unprecedented battery life and very cool look. I definitely love the freedom from having to drag 6-8 pound cargo every where I go. I have not tested battery life exclusively. But, I recharge it about once every day and half. It takes about 2 hours to recharge fully. It definitely has 6-7+ hours of battery life on conservative but very comfortable power settings. I love the freedom of not having to constantly seek power sources. I would recommend this netbook for anyone who is always on the go. It is perfect for taking notes in the class, surfing internet or using text-to-speech applications.

5 of 5 Most reviewers were right Tuesday, March 03, 2009
John from Washington DC
My finance was in need of an ultra portable. She types like the wind so a full keyboard was a key requirement. I started looking at Dell, then the keyboard reviews had me looking at MSI. Finally the construction made me decide on the NC10. I have other Samsung products with no complaints. Touch pad has issues as described in the reviews. The cursor seems to jump around some times, I don't know if she is touching the pad without realizing it. I never liked touch pads or keyboard joysticks anyway. Small mouse is the way to go. Computer Shopper didn't make the NC10 one of their Editor's Choices but didn't really have a reason as to why not. I didn't think much of their rankings. Cost was in my range, especially with the $30 credit for signing up for Buy's Visa Card. From all I read, the memory upgrade isn't needed for XP for most uses the NC10 is designed for. Thought memory is inexpensive, if it works, why mess with it? Spend the money on a nice case or car charger or for a second battery when the supplied one dies. I wish the NC10 were slightly cheaper with a Linux OS available, but my fiance is probably better off with XP. (All aftermarket Linux installations seem to have enough issues so I won't bother.) Mine is white and I don't see any finger prints. I worry about the white keyboard getting dirty, of course I'm looking at my grossly dirty black keyboard as I type this. I got exactly what I expected so I can't rate it much other than 5 out of 5.

5 of 5 Awesome netbook! Saturday, February 28, 2009
A Customer from Phoenix, AZ
I have had this netbook for only two weeks, and I feel that it beats all of the other netbooks out there from what I have seen. The Samsung netbook has a long battery life when un-plugged. It is basically a mini laptop, and is easy to carry around.

5 of 5 More than satisfied Sunday, February 22, 2009
Sandtown from Baltimore, MD
Meets, or exceeds, all my expectations. Have taken it on service calls to scan and remove malware from clients' drives. Have used it to record sermons for my church by connecting it directly to the sound mixing board, via the mic input. Even used it to do quick and dirty website design revisions on the road. All of the above were done on battery power and I never worried about losing juice even when out all day. Battery life is exceptional when used wisely. I highly recommend it. I did spring for a memory upgrade at an additional $30.00. But you may not need it, try it out first.

5 of 5 Nice Netbook Monday, January 19, 2009
AquariusFX from Los Angeles, CA
Just like the other review said. The NC10 is better than the rest. A comparison check list for those who still can't decide. 10" screen. 6 Cells battery last longer than others. Larger keyboard and the way the right "shift key" position is as it shoud be. Memory 1GB included can be expand to 2GB Maximum (The Spec given by Buy.com above is incorrect.) Bluetooth included.

5 of 5 Don't even compare! Sunday, January 18, 2009
Seng Saeliew from Oakland, California
Two weeks, no three weeks now and it really is a blast to have this netbook around. Just as eye pleasing as a Sony but with half the price tag. Just as reliable as a HP but is more productive. Seriously, the reason why I got hook on this netbook is the BATTERY LIFE. Keyboard layout is just magnificent, BEST VALUE FOR YOUR BUCK. WHY, let me see...this laptop came out last year in november(yes you had to be on a waiting list to even get one). Thats how sought after these laptops are. Only place or store that I can think of that carrys this is Costco. Loving the white pearl finish. Better than the glossy looking with tons of fingerprints, nope I rather just stick with this one. Again, CRAZY BATTERY LIFE...hanging around starbuck typing my essays for hours on end and the compliments are just pouring out of nowhere: 1. Wow, nice laptop. 2. That much battery life...whoa. 3. That much only for that many features?

5 of 5 Good laptop to take on the go. Saturday, January 10, 2009
houseonfire from Newport News, VA
I love my new Samsung NC-10. Why did I choose this over all of the other 10” 1.6GHz Atom ultraportables out there? 1) BATTERY LIFE: This computer boasts “up to 8 hours” battery life. Here’s what I found: The computer shut down at 5% battery after running for 5hrs 5min of intense usage in “normal” mode. In “silent” mode I estimate 7hr 38min battery life (stopped test at 5hr 28min at 32%). Not 8 hours, but pretty good. 2) LOW HEAT: I have no way to measure this, but it does run very cool. 3) MATTE FINISH: Most of the other ultraportables have a glossy “fingerprint magnet” finish. No fingerprints here. 4) KEYBOARD LAYOUT: everything is where it should be. 5) OTHER: The Samsung software suite includes a free backup utility. Nice. I also like that I can rotate the screen image 90 degrees (so I can hold & read the computer like a book). Skype loads easy & works well (including video), but speaker quality is not great. Bluetooth connectivity is working well with paired devices so far.

5 of 5 Great Netbook Monday, January 05, 2009
Sandy from Atlanta, GA
I have really enjoyed this Netbook. The keyboard is excellent with all the keys in the place you would expect, unlike some other netbooks on the market. I upgraded the memory to 2 GB. This was an easy upgrade as Samsung has provided easy access to the memory slot. I have taken two trips with it so far and it has been such a pleasure compared to carrying my Dell D630. I love this little laptop.

5 of 5 Best bang for buck Friday, January 02, 2009
Seng Saeliew from Oakland CA
It is beautifully design, the keyboard placement are just terrific especially the shift keys in its right places. It even has bluetooth something that I have not noticed in any of the other netbook competitors. Spacious hard drive and great battery life.

5 of 5 The Samsung NC10-14GW Rocks! Monday, December 29, 2008
R Nav from Clinton Township, MI
This thing was zippy when I got it... and zippier yet after I added a $27 2Gig Ram from Crucial. I was torn between which color (blue or white), after much thought I went with white and am glad I did...the white finish does not show finger prints and looks as clean as when I pulled it out of the box (and I use this netbook many times per day). The battery life is as advertised, 6+ hours! The keyboard has a "full keyboard" feel when typing. The Samsung NC10 is superior to the competition and I thoroughly researched this purchase. I still hold that opinion after much use. I installed Firefox and Thunderbird with ease. I thought I would miss having a DVD player, but do not... All software to be installed, or movies to be played, can easily be copied to the Samsung NC10 from your main PC via your network connection, then launched from the Samsung NC10. I installed Office XP by copying the DVD image to the Samsung NC10, mounting the image with Daemon Tools (free download), and installing as if from a DVD player. Once you figure this out, you will not miss having a DVD player at all! I cannot emphasize how zippy this thing is... I have yet to make it "choke" when multitasking. Outstanding!

5 of 5 Awesome Laptop Sunday, December 07, 2008
M. Marshel from Richland, WA
One of the best purchases we have made -runs on XP (Vista is a nightmare) and the keyboard is fantastic. The battery life of this computer is the best (6 hours is normal -- 300% longer than any laptop we have owned). All the features we need and none of the ones we don't. Samsung designers actually took into consideration all the features laptop users need and put them into this tiny powerhouse. Great job Samsung!!! You hit a homerun....

5 of 5 Amazing netbook Tuesday, December 02, 2008
Talksmart from Brookings, SD
I've been using the Samsung NC10 for over a week now and so far so good. First impression upon unboxing was the amazing keyboard size. The most impressive feature is the battery life. I tested it the first time and it ran like around 6 hours. I recommend you buy this.

5 of 5 All of the Great Reviews are Right Tuesday, December 02, 2008
A Customer from Long Beach
This little machine is wonderful. It has an outstanding keyboard, it is light, looooong battery life (6 cell batter standard), and the build quality is excellent (better than the HP 1000, Acer Aspire, and EEEPC - all of which I've had the chance to play with). I upgraded the ram and have turned it into a dual booting, XP/OSX machine even. I can run multiple programs (Word and Endnote and web browser and music) without any stuttering or problems. The perfect traveling companion computer, and definitely the best 10 inch netbook out there as far as I can tell. The rave reviews of the NC10 are right.

5 of 5 The way all laptops should go Monday, December 01, 2008
Euler College from Solon, OH
I have had over 10 laptops but whenever I need one for travel, I don't want to carry any of them because they are simply not portable although they are supposed to be. This is the one I love to carry around and actually brought it in a recent trip. It served me well: easy to type, long battery hours, large enough screen, etc. I hope Samsung or another company can follow this line and improve it by including a DVD writer into it, I will be totally satisfied.
