5 of 5 so far so good Monday, October 23, 2006 TC from Dallas, TX
I purchased this printer to print my dissertation and my resumes. So far, the printer has been easy to install and use. It is fast and the "Toner Save" button is nice for those rough drafts. The free shipping from Buy.com came within 2 business days. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good Value--Excellent Choice for a Student Thursday, September 21, 2006 A Customer from Charlottesville, VA
My child in college has a Samsung ML-1740 (an older model than the ML-2010) and it has performed well. So when my high school senior needed to replace a dead inkjet printer, Samsung was my first choice. So far so good. This model has a toner saving feature and that, I hope, will extend the life of the cartridge by a good bit. With such a low cost printer it is almost less expensive to buy a new printer which comes with toner than it is to by the toner. Keep that in mind if you have higher volume requirements than a typical student. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Worth Buying Friday, September 15, 2006 Melanie from Denver CO
This is an inexpensive laser printer and although is is slow to start, once going it is really fast. It is compact and a great value if you are looking for speed and do not need color. The first few times to use it seem REALLY loud, but you get used to it and it isn't so bad. Well worth buying. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works fine Tuesday, August 01, 2006 SB from Boston, MA
It works just fine, haven't had to worry about it. I click print and it prints. I have not yet put new toner in. Seems to use a fair amount of electricity when it warms up to print.
It is very quick, so I don't mind the noise that it makes.
I got my rebate. It was about $65 counting cable and rebate. It doesn't come with cable.
I recommend it. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 A cheap but nice compact printer Thursday, July 20, 2006 william from west lafayette, indiana
I have had printed using this unit for a few hundred pages, many of them in the manual duplex mode to save paper. So far it works great. Very fast, sharp and clear text. Noisy problem reported by the others is not too serious to me. In fact, in standby, it doesn't produce any noise that I am aware of. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good, cheap printing Monday, July 10, 2006 David Kluegel from Pomona, CA
First, I'd like to point out that I've only printed a couple dozen pages, so I have nothing to say on this printer's longevity. I've heard of problems with light colored printing, but had none of them myself. After a short warm-up period, it starts spitting pages out at a pretty good clip. It's rather noisy while printing, but that's to be expected. When not actually printing, it seems to be perfectly quiet granted that it's about 6 feet away from me). The graphics printing isn't great, but it seems to work perfectly well for text. I don't suppose that anyone's looking for a photo printer in this machine anyhow. Overall, I am very satisfied so far with this purchase. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Fifty Dollar Find! Thursday, June 29, 2006 Mike H. from Cincinnati, OH
I have been contemplating a laser printer for some time now to combat the cost of inkjets. This printer was a real find! I have told everyone I know about it. I just could not let any go unsold at this price. I have always had great service from Buy.com, but this time they outdid themselves. It was ordered, shipped and received within 2 days. So far I am impressed with the performance. Not having owned a laser printer before, I did not realize they could print so fast! Already worth what I paid. Was this review helpful?

This is my first adventure into the laser printer arena. Since most of my printing is black and white, I got discouraged because my ink jet printers cost so much to replace the ink cartridges. Even though a black ink cartridge says it is good for 1000 pages, I never saw even close to this. Most of my printouts are b/w text. It has exceeded my expectations so far in regards to setup, print quality, and ease of use. I have never had a jam, but have only printed a few pages at a time (~100 pages total so far). It is a little noisy, but not like a freight train like others have said. It depends on where you put it though. If you placed it next to your monitor, yeah, it might be a little loud. Mine is on a stand about 6ft from me. BTW, there is no LCD on the printer, so all the setup is done through your computer. This is fine by me though. Was this review helpful?

Pro: compact, easy to set up, no paper curl.
Con: A little loud when first start up.
This printer is only 3 days old but it has been a work horse already. Printed over 100 pages so far with neither paper jamming nor any problems. I'm hoping that the toner last as long as some viewers said. The graphic is good enough for college term paper and such. Was this review helpful?

OK- let's be honest. This is not a fancy printer with lots of bells and whistles. However, what I need a laser printer to print sharp black and white text (and images sometimes). I don't need it to receive a fax, make a copy, print photos, or make me brownies (although that would be a great feature). This printer comes through on its task. It is fast (once the few second warm up period has ended) and delivers clarity. If you're looking for a great value- you found it.<br />
<br />
The toner is a bit on the pricey side which makes the toner saver mode a real asset. When in this mode, the text isn't quite as thick, and imagery not as high quality, but for most circumstances it's a fair trade off. If I needed to print a resume or better images (for a newsletter for instance), then a simple change into normal mode is all it takes.<br />

<span style="font-weight:bold;">Cables, Jams and such</span><br />
I had my first jam last night. Wasn't a big deal to clear and it only happened once. Every printer has an occasional feed problem for one reason or another. So I'm not counting this as a blow to the machine. And as for the cable, well I'm a computer nerd, so I have extra USB cables lying around - so not having one in the box wasn't a big deal to me!<br />

Very fast delivery - they shipped the printer on the same day I ordered and I received the package on the next day. It was quite impressive! At this price, the quality of the printer is awesome. It's fast and light. It gets little noisy after you print out pages though. But overall, I'm very satisfied. Was this review helpful?

I had a Lexmark All-In-One printer, which was cumbersome to use because the color cartridges had to be replaced so often, and the unit was extremely large for the computer armoire I have all my stuff in. This Samsung is wonderfully compact and fits beautifully in my cabinet, and since the paper loads from the front, its much easier to replace the paper. I have the printer on the lower shelf of my computer armoire. The on-off switch is in the back, though, which makes it a pain to reach behind and turn on/off. It is very sleek and clean looking, so if you have it on your desk, it won't be an eyesore, unlike my Lexmark which looks like some weird bulky spaceship. The resolution is excellent, and the printer is very easy to use. I followed other reviewer's advice and bought the USB cable at the same time. The printer is extremely fast, I printed two pages the other night and after I clicked, it was almost instantly done. This printer is an excellent deal. I highly recommend this. This printer is inexpensive, yet outperforms other printers costing much more (it's print quality and speed match a $500 HP LaserJet at my office). I've had it for 3 months, and no problems. The toner cartridge in the box has printed about 150 pages so far, and the toner save feature yields acceptable quality. No printer cable is included, but very few manufacturers include this. It also has a small footprint, which makes it easy to find a spot for it. It warms up quickly, and the first page out comes close to the rated 8 seconds. I seriously doubt a better printer could be found at this price. Was this review helpful?

I just needed a printer for casual home use. When I saw this deal I couldn't pass it up. I've only had it for a week, but so far its been nice. Its a little noisy when operating. It has a fairly loud cooling fan in it I think. This noise calms down when idle (about a few mins after print job is done), so its not constant.
The quality of text printing was excellent, even in the lower quality mode. Was this review helpful?

1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 GREAT VALUE Sunday, February 05, 2006 A Customer from Tacoma, WA
For the most part, I'm happy with this printer. It's fast, easy to setup, easy to use. It does have a couple of issues that I'm not real fond of but willing to work with. Small text prints very light. I'm not sure how to fix it. The utility settings seem to address this issue but really doesn't make much of a difference and the text is still to light for my liking. Also, when the printer comes out of power save mode, it draws quite a bit of power. Enough to make my UPS click on and off and the lights to dim in my house. I fixed this problem by turning off the power save feature. That problem might be my UPS, it may not be powerful enough to handle the computer and the printer. To make a long story short, you can't beat the deal on this printer and the couple of issues I'm having are not serious enough to really worry about. Certain inkjets can print fairly fast. However, when you watch this printer spit out page after page after page.... you will realize that inkjets only think they are fast. Give it a try... not everything has to be printed in color and when you compare the cost of toner to the cost of inkjet ink... you will find that laser is a much better value. Arrived today, very fast shipping from Buy.com. Printer is reasonably compact and lightweight. Installation of toner/drum and software was easy enough, but I STRONGLY recommend reading the installation instructions from the manual on the CD-ROM before starting, as they are much more clear and complete than on the paper multi-language Quick Install Guide. This printer is amazingly fast, easily the fastest printer of any kind I've ever owned. Text and graphics are very sharp and clear. Much quieter than my other laser printer (though that's a fairly noisy printer). Just tried some manual duplex printing and that works fine from within Word. So far, no problems at all with paper handling, a very nice change from my other laser which gives a lot of misfeeds and jams with the same paper in this low-humidity weather. I do a great deal of two-sided printing, and while my other laser has automatic duplexing I won't really miss it at all with this very fast printer with its manual duplexing feature built into the drivers. A really fantastic buy and I would recommend it to anyone. Five stars all the way.

This printer are easy to set up with Window XP, printer speed is quick and quality is good, but the noise when printing is a little too loud. I add a server printer to place this machine in different room of our office, so it can be share and not bother anybody.

First of all, Buy.com shipped this product on the same day as ordered and I received the product the next day. I was very impressed. The box is pretty big considering it's a printer with a very small footprint. I don't know if you can make a laserjet any smaller than that. I had a bit of trouble setting up the toner in the printer (I didn't push it back all the way to hear the click, so the flap wouldn't close), but after that it was all easy.
Pros
-Smaller and lighter than my older HP 4L I just replaced.
-Can hold 150 pages. My 4L held about 30 or 40 or so.
-Makes it easy to print on both sides (feed the paper twice, but it's easy and they have instructions when you do it)
-Can print multiple pages on one page.
-A lot faster than I expected, too... should have bought this a long time ago.
-The resolution is awesome, up to 1200X1200dpi. I use 600X600 and econo mode to save ink (when it starts to fade, shake the toner a few times to get a couple extra hundred pages).
-For a printer this fast, it sure doesn't jam as often as I thought it would.
Cons
-Make sure you have a USB cable or buy it together at the same time at buy.com to save some money. It doesn't come with the cable.
-Takes some time to warm up its first page, maybe around 15-20 seconds. But after that, it's fast as hell, seems a lot faster than 22ppm.
-Prints so fast sometimes when I want to stop the print job, I really can't. Was this review helpful?

Great print quality. Easy setup. Only owned for a few days, so no feedback on reliability.
Only complaint is no USB A/B cable in box, and printer does not have a parallel interface. My old parallel printer cable was no good. Buy.com has 10' USB A/B cable for $5.99. I had to pick up cable at local shopping Mall. RadioShack & Bestbuy charge $25 to $40 for USB A/B cables (THIEVES!!!). Was this review helpful?
