5 of 5 Not High End but Great Value Wednesday, December 10, 2008 A Customer from New Rochelle, NY
It was simple to install, works well, and produces a great picture. All in all, it's a great value and I would recommend it to anyone looking for basic HD DVD functionality. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Picture, Simple, and Functional Wednesday, November 19, 2008 GaryC from Houston, TX
This player is a perfect solution to connect to HDTV with HDMI connection and play standard DVDs. The picture quality is outstanding and actually improves on the DVD resolution with it's upscaling compability. I have a simple setup; 1 37" Samsung LN37A450 (720p) and this player. All I have to do is press the eject button on the player which turns the unit on, place DVD in, close the door, and I'm watching a movie. Nice. Simple. Simple is good. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent for the money! Saturday, October 18, 2008 John Schafer from Easley, South Carolina
Using the HDMI output makes this player a 2 wire hookup (AC & HDMI). How simple is that? The menu is easy to navigate and the unit works well. It even plays some home made DVDs that other players can't handle. Now all I need is an amplifier that can reproduce the sound this unit can send out. I am very pleased. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 re: Well Worth The 7 Months of Shopping... Tuesday, September 23, 2008 BC from SP, NJ
I reviewed my Samsung LN46A750 TV by mistake... The DVD-1080P8 player works perfectly with my Samsung LCD TV. Everything I expected. With the bonus dollars on my BUY.COM Visa from buying the TV I ended up paying only $17 for this player out of pocket. Great deal!!! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Well Worth The 7 Months of Shopping Tuesday, September 23, 2008 BC from SP, NJ
I shopped for over 7 months for the best value HD TV. Every time I tried to compare another brand I came back to the Samsung. I almost bought the previous model and I'm glad I held out. The Touch-of-Color frame looks so much better than the older model. There is a slight reflection on the screen from the light refraction through the plexiglass edge. This is something I can live with when compared to the 20th century look of the older model. I love the USB port for playing music, videos and pictures from my computer via USB thumb drive. I also have it hooked up to my computer via ethernet connection. After hooking the TV up to the internet you get news updates, weather and stocks on screen. Composite, HDMI and optical sound connections cover all modes of surround. I also love the AnyNet feature that automatically switches all required settings for viewing DVD's on the Samsung DVD-1080P8 player (or any other Samsung player with AnyNet capability). Pop in a DVD and it will turn the TV on (if it is off) and switch the TV to DVD source, verify 1080P signal settings and play the movie almost immediately. Then when you're done with the movie it will switch everything back to cable source and previous settings. No more fooling around with 2 remotes just to watch a movie. If you're willing to spend under $2000 for an HDTV (this would also cover the price of the DVD-1080P8 player) I would highly recommend this TV. You will NOT be sorry. I also bought this set with the promise of forming a digital living network. The users manual states that it is DLNA compliant. ...still waiting to see what other products will be compatible in a DLNA setting. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Good DVD player - but funky interface Sunday, May 18, 2008 A Customer from Monticello, IL
This a good DVD player, but choosing the proper settings is confusing. I'm still not sure I'm getting the full range of sound out of it that I should, even though I'm using the digital coax jack available directly into my Yamaha amplifier.
Overall, for the price, it was a good deal. I also chose the Samsung brand because it matches my TV. Was this review helpful?
