The Blue Ray offers a great picture, but it will not play more than about 30 minutes before it freezes up and you have to shut it down and reboot. I have religously downloaded firmware updates and I have also cleaned the lens twice to make sure it is reading as well as possible. I also have to literally wash every disk (both blue ray or DVD) before playing even new ones. My wife has banned it from our house because it is so frustrating. It is a pretty unit but I can't stand to look at it anymore. I guess the VHS won again because my HD DVD works perfectly every time and has just as great a picture! Was this review helpful?

The first unit that I first received did not work as expected. Load time was slow, I mean slow (like 10 minutes after firm ware update). It skipped or hung after movie was played for 30 mins or so. I had to exchange it. Wasn't the quality that I would expect from Samsung.
The replacement unit was working great. Disc load time was faster than the first unit. So far Ratatouille is the one that skips for a few times but I may need to do a firmware upgrade to fix this. Other than that, I played almost 10 movies and every movie played flawlessly.
I don't really care about Profile 1.0 or 1.1 or whatever, as long as it can play all the movies, I am happy with it. Was this review helpful?

The blu-ray movies look excellent on this player even on a 1366x768 resolution tv. This player outputs a signal of 1080i on a 1366x768 resolution tv. It has an output signal of 1080p on tv's with a resolution of 1920x1080. The tv I have it hooked up to is a four year old phillips 26" LCD tv. The only bad thing I can say about this dvd player, and it may be the same way on all blu-ray and hd-dvd players, is that when watching a full screen or older dvd it doesnt fill the entire screen. Updating the firmware is a breeze. Just connect the player to a modem or a router and enter the setup. They give you step by step instructions to complete the update. The dvd player also upconverts standard definition dvd's to near high definition. Overall this is an excellent next generation dvd player, especially for just over $300. The best looking blu-ray movie I have seen so far is the Aviator. Was this review helpful?

The Samsung BP-1400 Blue Ray DVD player works better than I imagined! It cost alot less than Sony or other brand names. I like the fact that this unit,as well as other Blue Ray Players, will not only play Blue Ray DVDs', but ALL other formats such as regular dvds' and high def dvds. High Definition players won't play Blue Ray and regular dvd players won't play High Def or Blue Ray. Also,the Samsung BP-1400, as well as all blue ray players make your regular dvds' look soooo much better! I didn't even need the updates so many people talk about.There was no freeze up or other problems. The loading time is slow but the picture quality makes the wait worth it. Make sure you use a HDMI to HDMI cable when hooking this unit up to your HD TV. You won't be dissapointed! I'm not! Enjoy !! Last note...There is an offer on the internet that when you buy this model, as well as several other brand Blue Ray Players,that you can receive 5 (FIVE) FREE Blue Ray Movies just by filling out the form and the price of a stamp. Great picture on all formats, my only complaint is that the unit is slow to respond to commands, I don't know if that is how all Blu-Rays are, but mine is very slow and I have already had to install 2 firmware updates, but that is not that big of a deal, just takes a little time.
