1 of 5 This is the worst blu-ray player ever! Friday, June 27, 2008

I really can tell you I bought this blu-ray player a year ago. Not only has it stopped playing any blu-ray DVD realeasd past March 2008, it won't play any blu-ray DVDs at all. I thought it was just me until I read the CNET reviews and others had the same problems. The customer service is a complete joke and they will not help you. I can assure you that if your player stops working, they will tell you to ship it (on your own dime) and they will repair it (again, on your own dime). All they are trained to do is apologize and nothing more. Give it a try, you will not be happy.

I did not see anything that said that I would be receiving a refurbished unit when I purchased this. I should have somehow known I guess when I saw the price but thought I was getting a great deal. The unit is scratched and the remote doesn't seem to work correctly with the unit. I will hold onto it a week to see how it does and then report back.

When I got the unit, it played great. HD output was very good. It ran a little warm but no real problems there. Everything changed when it broke. It started when the player would not load Blu Ray discs I had previously played on the unit. I contacted Samsung, they gave me an RMA and I shipped it to their repair site. Four weeks later, I finally received an e-mail saying the repair was complete and the unit had shipped. I received the unit and after opening an undamaged shipping box, I discovered a back corner was severly dented. Before I contacted Samgung, I hooked the unit up to see if it would play blu ray discs. It had the same problem as when I sent it. I called Samsung and they transferred me to their "special" group that handles those situations. I was on hold for over 30 minutes and then I heard someone's voice and they hung up on me. I called again, was transferred to the special group again and the same thing happened... again! I called a third time and asked to speak to someone who might be able to help me. I was told there was no one except the "special" group. They would not give me the number for the "special" group and told me if I was not happy to write a letter. Well, I have. So instead of just having a unit that doesn't work, I have a unit that's damaged and doesn't work! Beware of Samsung service. If I get any satisfaction at all, I'll report that too.

Wow it really brings movies to life. I have a 40 in samsung 1080p lcd and with blu ray it looks amazing. The sound is also really nice coming through the surround sound. The only reason I gave performance a 4 was the fact that some of the older movies that they converted to blu ray don't look that great, however most of them look unreal. Overall I'm extremely satified with this product and buy.com. Some of the other so called online superstores can't touch this site. Thank you for the promptness and great customer service.

The 1080P resolution on my 61" Samsung DLP is excellent. The sound quality that this beast is pumping to my receiver is aweseome. Had to do a firmware update for certain disks to play, but it was pretty simple and the Samsung tech support site has detailed instructions. Not sure how the BDP-1200 compares, but for the price you just can't beat the BDP-1200.
