imagine a monitor you’re reluctant to turn off at the end of the workday. That’s the dilemma you face with the Samsung 2253BW widescreen LCD monitors. Their stunning design holds technology that makes them serious monitors for text, graphics and motion video in the workplace. And in the evening, that same technology delivers flawless movies and gaming. You might never turn your monitor off again. With the 2253BW widescreen LCD monitors, it’s not hard to imagine.

Work can be beautiful

  • You’ll enjoy looking at your new Samsung monitor. And that’s before you even turn it on. The 53 Series widescreen monitors feature an acrylic bar along the bottom edge that sets them apart with style. The bezels are finished in a rich, high-gloss black, with matching glossy black pedestals. The edges are gracefully rounded, and the design incorporates buttonless touch controls. All of a sudden, your office feels like an art museum.

Fast 2 ms G to G response for sharp motion graphics

  • Not everything you do on your Samsung will be a spreadsheet or a still picture. You might be viewing a website with motion video. You might be watching a sales video. You might be watching the playoffs with the gang one night after work. Maybe you’re even sneaking in a little gaming time at lunch. Whatever the case may be ultra-fast 2 ms Gray-to-Gray response times give you sharp, smear-free, impressive motion video.

8000:1 dynamic contrast ratio for a continually inspiring picture

  • Samsung dynamic contrast analyzes picture input signals and continually adjusts brightness for optimized contrast. The result is brighter brights without blowing out the whites, and richer blacks that hold detail. With 8000:1 dynamic contrast, it’s a constantly shifting range that always delivers the most detailed picture possible.

HDCP for display of high-resolution digital content

  • They’re HDCP-compatible High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection). So when you connect a Blu-ray player, game console or other HD source to your monitor, the content will be displayed with no disruption due to content protection. You’ll be able to watch high resolution movies with all the quality that’s intended.

Power Consumption Control saves energy and saves money

  • You can set your Samsung monitor to turn off automatically at a specific time. It saves energy, it extends the life of your monitor and it ensures your Samsung monitor is operating at peak efficiency for a long time to come.

Custom Key gives you a monitor customized to you

  • Which Samsung picture-optimization function do you find yourself using the most? With the Custom Key, you can set it to give you one-touch access to MagicBright, MagicColor, Color Effect or Aspect Ratio Control.

Wide 16:10 ratio with Aspect Ratio Control

  • With a wide aspect ratio, you can view DVDs the way they were meant to be viewed. With Samsung’s Aspect Ratio Control, you can also view 5:4 and 4:3 content the way it was meant to be viewed. If you use a typical wide monitor with a PC that doesn’t support wide aspect ratios, the picture will expand to fill the wide monitor and distort. With the user-selectable Wide and Normal Image Size modes on the Samsung 953BW, 2053BW, 2253BW and 2253LW wide monitors, the original aspect is preserved, so no matter what you’re viewing, it will be distortion-free.

2 of 5 Nice product, TERRIBLE Support from Samsung Thursday, October 30, 2008
    Dave R. from Marietta, GA
The monitor seems nice enough, although I don't see a difference between this one and much less expensive one (with less "specs"). But my problem is with Samsung! Five days after receiving the 2253 monitor, it went bad - flashing screen, fuzzy details. It took 19 phone calls, 5 e-mails, and at least 10 hours of my time to FINALLY get someone to honor the warranty and send me a replacement. Sorry Samsung, you have lost a customer.

    5 of 5 Great monitor Tuesday, October 14, 2008
    Steve from Granite City, IL
I use the 24 inch version of this monitor at work, so I already knew it would have a great picture. It was a lot brighter than I expected. The only instructions that came with it are plug it in, turn it on. I don't know if it was the monitors (I got 2) or my video card, but they wouldn't work. I had to put my old monitors back and change the resolution and refresh settings about 10 times to get both to work. I literally did the same thing over and over, then they gave in and started working. My only complaints are the hidden power switch and the stand. I knew the stand wasn't height adjustable, which is ok, but the base sticks out the front about 3 inches. Even that's not a big deal.

    5 of 5 Worth it Monday, October 13, 2008
    ie from Las Vegas, NV
My one complaint is that there are no instructions. Otherwise, this monitor was easily installed and easy to use. The images on the screen looks a little "stretched", but that may have something to do with the almost invisible adjustment buttons. It is a welcome change from my old clunker monitor; I have loads of room on my desk now!

4 of 5 Good, but Far From Perfect Saturday, October 11, 2008
    brant from Spring Lake
I ordered the monitor based on great reviews and was hugely disappointed when it arrived. The color was not uniform, the backlight was horrible, and the color had a blue tint to it. I RMA'd the monitor and hoped I just had a bad one. My second monitor (which I am using now) does not suffer as bad from the same problems. There is still some backlight bleeding but its not too bad and at least the color is uniform now with no tint issues. Calibrating the monitor is an absolute nightmare because you can't even see the controls or know which button does what. You may be better off using nvidia/ati display options to adjust the color.

    5 of 5 Unbelievable Thursday, September 25, 2008
    A Customer from Blacksburg, VA
Man.... The Koreans have done an outstanding job in making this LCD. I connected it to the HDTV Set top box via DVI and to the laptop via VGA and boom it was all up and running. Crystal clear images. Being a student I donot need to buy a big HDTV costing 700 - 800 dollars. Very very satisfied, No dead pixels and a done deal. Don't even look at other cheaper brands who are selling for 180 or so (their screens look washed out). Pay a bit more and get this.

    5 of 5 Near Perfect Tuesday, September 23, 2008
    Mark Donovan from Stow, MA
I've had this monitor for two months now, with no problems at all. Although the buttons are in an awkward position, who cares? Not a single dead pixel. Beautiful picture, beautiful frame, all at a beautiful price (I got mine with a rebate, so it was a little cheaper). This is my 4th Samsung monitor, and with a 4 out of 4 success rate, I'll never buy anything else.

5 of 5 Good Value for the Price Thursday, August 14, 2008
    Nate from Hoover, AL
Set up was easy for the DVI connection getting the 1680x1050 easily. Getting the VGA 1680x1050 was more of a challenge and neither my video card manufacturer nor Samsung support were particularly helpful. Could get 1600x1200 (not real pretty) easily with Vista, but had to play with the ATI Command Center to get the recommended settings.

3 of 5 Horrid blue shift Monday, July 14, 2008
    A Customer from Everett, WA
Ok before I write any praise I have to mention what I do not like about this monitor because I feel there are too many reviews on here that simply say "awesome monitor" & "must buy". First off this LCD absolutely MUST be calibrated before use. When I first hooked it up via DVI, the display was eye piercingly bright and everything was awash in blue. It took over an hour to get the brightness and colors to an acceptable level. My old display was a Dell 2005FPW that displayed colors accurately w/o requiring any adjustments, so I was disappointed when purchasing a new monitor to find it perform worse. The "2 MS" Refresh rate is not very important to me cause I have not noticed any "ghosting" on any of the LCDs Ive used. To me its more of a marketing gimmick aimed at unsavvy gamers. The controls are positioned awkwardly. With monitor sitting on a desk they are hard to reach and may result in carpel tunnel if played with for too long. Worse, the "Magic Tune" software which is supposed to provide on screen control of the settings would not run on my WinXP SP3 computer, and no update is out. I was also disappointed to see samsung follow the super bright LED fad. Instead of a normal green/orange light indicating power/standby samsung went with a ultrabright blue LED which blinks when in standby. Onto more positive notes.. I do appreciate the brightness/contrast of the monitor. Colors although inaccurate are vivid and pleasing to the eye. Text & images are very sharp. The display is also large at 22" & mine had no dead/stuck pixels. In summary I would recommend this monitor as long as you dont plan on working with images as there is too much blue shift in this monitor, unless you plan on spending time calibrating it.

5 of 5 Cannot get more for less money Sunday, June 29, 2008
    A Customer from Addison, ME
Unless you spend over $450, you cannot beat this monitor in any category of functionality and viewability. How many Dell monitors are in use? Compare it to any one of them and you will find this superior, and for less money. I like it a lot.

    5 of 5 As anticipated Sunday, June 22, 2008
    PhotoPhil from Saratoga, CA
The Samsung sparkled right out of the box. No dead pixels. Plug and play. Eye One calibration took about 10 minutes and the color is right on. Can't believe it was only $300. 90 dpi looks pretty good for large proofing. Contrast is just fine. I'm not using for gaming so speed is not something I looked at. Overall, I'm thrilled. Recommended.

4 of 5 Pretty good for a TN Panel Monday, June 09, 2008
    Greg from San Jose, CA
Samsung has struck a nice balance with the 2253BW. It's a stylish large screen monitor, with fast response, fair viewing angle, at a very reasonable price. Subjectively, games, video and most applications look very good on this monitor. On the down side, base only has tilt/swivel with no height adjust and the screen is slightly smaller than competing products 21.6 vs. 22, (~.2" shorter vertical). Also, monitor controls are a bit awkward to get to. True dynamic range is limited (like all current TN panels) to 6 bit/color (although the documentation shows it as supporting 16.7M colors, probably by dithering). Most users, won't likely notice this limitation, for high end graphics work, this could be a problem. So far I'm very pleased with this monitor. I think it's a solid step above competing models at this price range and my kids think it looks cool.

    5 of 5 Excellent monitor Tuesday, May 20, 2008
    Ketan from South Elgin, IL
The monitor works great. It took a little work to get new drivers for my video card to suppport the dvi output vs. vga. I tried both Samsung and then Nvidia to get it working, otherwise DVI wasn't recognized. 2 weeks after purchase, I saw that the 2253LW is selling for $40 less. I can't really tell what's different other than reading that the LW is the newer model. I have no complaints on the monitor after getting it working - note - only using for work so mostly docs, pdfs, spreadsheets, etc. I like the bigger screen for seeing the whole emails vs splitting my screen for multiple apps.

    4 of 5 solid monitor Wednesday, May 14, 2008
A Customer from Mountain View, CA
Overall I like it a lot. I went from solely a 12" laptop screen to this :) No dead pixels. High quality everything. Buttons that control it (contrasts, brightness, etc) are tucked away on bottom right of front bezel so they aren't the easiest to access, but that's a small price you pay for the minimalist styling and I don't mind so much. Read review earlier that this doesn't tilt -- it does tilt as the tilting mechanism is found on the stand and not the LCD itself. I bought it for it's widescreen format, but I wish it weren't widescreen though because it makes the vertical shorter than I'd like -- that's my pref though and not necessarily a fault. Otherwise a winner.

    5 of 5 Excellent monitor Wednesday, April 30, 2008
    A Customer from NYC, NY
I have this monitor hooked up using the DVI connection to my PC. It is set to a resolution of 1680 x 1050 and the picture quality is incredible. Blueray, DVD, HDTV (using an over the air antenna) give very sharp picture quality. Since it is a 22" widescreen only 3 feet away it is like viewing my 42" from 8 feet away. Oh, it is also great for the business softwares I run. In Project 2007 I not only see the task information but a great deal of the gantt chart without having to "slide" the screen to the right. I am definitely glad I bought it.

    1 of 5 Disappointed Sunday, April 27, 2008
    A Customer from Pasadena, MD
I am extremely disappointed with my new monitor. I recently bought the Samsung 22” wide screen monitor after my Princeton gave up. Although it is touted as excellent, this monitor is one I am sorry I bought. The screen brightness is uneven, with the top being dark, middle medium and bottom light. It’s impossible to post-process my images in Photoshop and get consistent results.

    cjnastally from La Porte, Texas
I upgraded from an older HP 19" monitor that finally stopped working to this 22" Samsung. Installed it with ease and had everything up and running within 5min. Excellent picture and the brightness had to be turned down just a bit as it was to bright. Fantastic monitor for the price, ease of use and set up. Great picture for my eyes which are not as sharp as they used to be. Would diffently recommend this monitor. Happy Viewing!

    5 of 5 Brilliant Display! Monday, April 07, 2008
    A Customer from Seattle, WA
The screen is so bright I had to turn down the brightness for my personal taste. At 22 inches wide you might think it will be too large but the size is just about right. The native resolution of 1680 x 1050 gives you a big workspace, the response is wonderful and the screen is very enjoyable for game play.

Great monitor!!! I can't find anything about it that I don't like, especially for less than $300. Okay, the glossy black plastic base attracts dust. 4 of 5 can be too bright Sunday, March 30, 2008
A Customer from Newport News, VA
I love my new monitor. It is every thing I had hoped for. My only problem is the brightness of white areas like email fields. Too hard too see the letters. I have adjusted the magic bright controls and still a little disappointed. On the other hand, color graphics are astonishing! Perhaps there are further adjustments I haven't found that's why I gave a 4 for ease of use and overall satisfaction.

    5 of 5 Best Monitor Sunday, March 30, 2008
    A Customer from Dunes, SD
This is the best monitor available in the market in this price and size range. I have compared this monitor with some of the other available brands and I am pleased with its ease of use, looks, and performance. I have not found any problems with this monitor. The complaints that people might have with this or similar monitors are based upon their personal preferences. The monitor has vivid colors, and has 8000:1 dynamic contrast ratio which is an improvement over the Samsung 226bw i.e. one of the other best monitors in the market. I would recommend this monitor to others.

    5 of 5 Great Monitor Friday, March 28, 2008
    A Customer from Anthony CA
I really like this monitor. The screen format is wide and you can view/do lots with it. The only bad thing is that Samsung gives you a small base so it sits really low (that goes for any LCD screen purchased). Had to order an "Ergotron Neo-Flex" from another retailer. Once sitting at a perfect height/angle, now the screen is even better. I had a Viewsonic 19" monitor and replace it with this one. Samsung monitors blow away Viewsonic (by color, slimmer design, lighting, contrast, and everything overall).

    5 of 5 Wow! Monday, March 24, 2008
    Chris from VA
This monitor is very nice and the picture quality is superb. Yes, if you are watching a movie and in wide screen mode, the top and bottom black portion of the monitor will not be totally black because of some light leakages. The movie quality is also very very nice and full of details. I will buy this again because I have one of this "Ergotron LX Triple" and I think adding another 2 of these will be great. Lastly, thank you Buy.com the shipping was fast, and was glad it wasn't shipped by one of those ups-usps shipping method. Also, can someone let me know if the base stem that connects to the monitor can it be removed once you slotted it into the monitor? Was asking because I won't want to damage the monitor as it seems quite hard to pull it out once connected. I need to remove it later for my Ergotron LX. Any help is most appreciated, thanks.

Took it out of the box, plugged it into my laptop (already had multiple displays set up) and presto-poof it was ready to go. Absolutely no problems and it looks and performs great. Great buy..
