4 of 5 Easy media creator for projects Saturday, September 02, 2006 Cory G from Draper, Utah
Thanks to easy media I can get my back log of projects cleared up. My main goal has been to transfer old vhs tapes to dvds and my back up hard drive. Since I don't plan on doing much altering, the basic video program suits me fine. I can slice and dice and add title screens. I've been saving clips of my favorite stars in interviews and shows that aren't available for sale. I've also been able to adjust the sound volume so that the clips play at around the same level. That is only one type of project that this program handles. If you are into photos, I found the slide show maker and photo editor as good as any other programs. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Glad I took the chance Wednesday, August 23, 2006 tucker from Lamar, CO
This is one of the better reviewed programs on the net so I decided to try it. I don't think that the reviews have really given it its due, even the good ones. First I'm still learning a lot about digital media and because I now have a digital media and an iPod, I'm forced to learn more. It turns out that I didn't have to learn much on the techncial end as long as I use Easy Media. I could transfer photos from the camera and onto the program directly. There is a great editing program with the usual red eye fix and cropping. I was even able to make slide shows in the blink of an eye. Now that I have a big photo collection, I tried burning some dvds. That task was also made easy by the software. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Unbelivable, they made it user friendly Thursday, August 17, 2006 J.S. Hock from Dubuque, IA
Forget about the technical babble. This program eliminates the need for knowing a lot of terminology. All you need to know is what type of disc you want to make, and the program will even help you with that decision. Even with the increase in disc formats, the program is even easier to use than previous versions thanks to a reworking of the menus. More than the burning, the program has advanced editing tools too. 5 of 5 one size fits all Monday, August 07, 2006 Calla Lee from Champaign, IL
One package has all digital media programs. Burn, backup, edit videos, photos, audio, etc. The programs are easy to learn. The tools are useful and go beyond the usual suite stripped features. You can buy many of these programs as separate packs, but it would cost much much more. I'm surprised the maker could afford to make all these programs available for such a good price. 5 of 5 Even old media needs updating Wednesday, August 02, 2006 KurtSkorr from Bethel, OH
Looking through a used media store, I couldn't help but admire many lps. Not all of them are available digitally so I still crave them. However the lps get worn and it's a good idea to back them up. EMC8 really handles this well. It's simple to figure out and then burn dvds. Now the program has the dvd dolby settop format if you want to play on more than your pc or cd player. There is also the highly unique id system for putting music information into the digital formatted songs. I haven't seen that feature anywhere else. I hope roxio continues to use this option in future releases. Was this review helpful?

A wonderful program that has the modern features for archiving and editing. I don't think there is another program that matches emc8's simplicity. Burn cds and dvds, including the new formats of HD, dual layer. Was this review helpful?

Every so often I have to buy a suite which will cover lots of tasks and last for several years. I found that emc8 fills that hole. There are the obvious, disc burning, media editing, media project creation. But this also throws in backup, system recovery, disc error analysis, music id database, video/photo transfer from camcorder/camera. I don't feel that I need to buy anything else for my media. After careful research I settled on this software since it had widescreen video/photo, tivo, dual layer dvd, vcr dvds, and good editing programs. What disarmed me was the layout of the the tasks. You choose your project by type of media, like video. If you want to burn a disk, then choose that from the menu and pick your files. The program takes care of most steps. I wasn't disappointed with the photo, music, and video editors either. They are packed with features and not just special basic suite versions. Was this review helpful?

Do yourself a favor and go directly to the easiest, most reliable media suite there is. You don't need much knowledge to get this up and running. Even disc burning is easy. It is super easy with the drag and drop icon. Want more spice and challenges? The video editor can go to easy basic editor to timeline complex editor. You can do major editing with this tool. There are many programs so most people will find something they need. Was this review helpful?

A big suite is bound to have programs that anyone would need. By far this is the greatest disc authoring program. Even my grandmother has been able to figure out how to burn cds. I'll have to teach her the differences of the dvds though before she tries that herself. dvds are more complex because you need to know that there are different formats for the settops and the pcs. Throw in dual layer and it can get confusing. If you have that knowldege alone though, you can burn anything yourself with emc8. Was this review helpful?

Surprised to say that this has ended up being one of my most used computer programs. The more I use it, the more I find out that it is replacing other programs. Powerpoint was my choice for slide shows, including photo shows. I had to use outside editing programs though. Now I can edit the photos and then make the slide in show in a few seconds with emc8. I've also found myself archiving more and more since you can use the drag and drop icon to burn discs. There's very little wasted steps. It is a very large program, but the speed is good and it stable enough to avoid freezing and crashing. Was this review helpful?

The interface has to be the easiest to use among what's available on the market. The burning menus have been condensed down to only a few steps. There are more complex options if you choose to use them. For example, you can choose the level of compression. This gives you control over the quality of the video/audio. There is always a tradeoff of space to quality. However I used maximum compression to fit some video on a cd and the quality was still very good. Ditto for music. You need very high end stereo equipment to pick up the difference in the audio quality of the compression choices. Was this review helpful?

I bought the boxed version and it came with a big printed manual so I'm unsure what the complaint about documentation is about. I found that most tasks can be done wihtout any instruction since the menus lead you through the process.
The manual has come in handy since I'm trying to learn the timeline video editing mode. You can edit videos in the simple mode but for very complex editing you may need the more advanced tools. Was this review helpful?

The program is pretty much self-explanatory for most tasks so I don't use the documentation much. There is the normal video editing mode which is easy to understand. I did find the timeline video editing though more challenging and needed direction. However I did find the few points I needed in the manual which helped tremendously. Roxio Easy Media Creator is a huge program, and yes, a huge resource eater, yet it's worth it. It has virtually every type of disc support you can think of. You'd also be hard pressed to find a program that is as easy to understand. The best research is to compare program features side-by-side before you invest. Was this review helpful?

To my surprise a lot of the features didn't work when I first installed it. Then I downloaded the update file and it was like night and day difference. All these menus were working and it didn't take long to do any of the tasks. There's a lot of stuff to use but the disc authoring is the primary draw. Roxio made the menus easy to read. I'm blasting through my music collection and archiving them onto dvds - playable on my dvd player. This has to be the best program for making music discs. The auto id tagging is unique and so needed. I've been sorting songs with the tags and making the menus more organized. You can use the quick sound editor to clean up distortion. Was this review helpful?

I didn't know that you could get a program that had nearly everything for media editing. I thought that roxio was just a disc authoring program. I'm so glad I tried it because the interface is sensible and easy to use. Besides dvd burning I've now tried making a music video since the tools were easy to use. I also like that the slide show maker had a lot of choices and you could turn it into a video and add video effects. Was this review helpful?

What a huge program. There are so many parts to it that it is like loading all of Microsoft Office. Still I was able to install all parts and got them working. I researched before I bought and the reviews were very good. Also I've used a burning program from Roxio that came with my pc and thought it was easy to use. This suite is even better. It has all the tools to edit different media. The disk formats have expanded to various kinds of dvds including ones that run on dvd players, one with stereo music, ones with data, ones with video. Roxio is well known for its disk burning software, much of it comes free on your pc. This suite has much more burning options and needed formats such as mp3 file creation and dvd-video disk burning.
I didn't know how well the editing tools were until I tried this package. You can easily add, cut, chop, fix, alter video and photos. After you're finished you can put the photos into a choice of projects like cards or collages. You can make your own video clips and organize them by chapters. The menu maker is super fast and it creates studio looking menus. I've ended up using this program more and using others less. Was this review helpful?

Finally 2 features that I was looking for: Tivo file support and widescreen video. In addition to the great disk burning features and formats, I can now transfer tivo video to my pc and burn them on dvds. This is such a great feature that I don't have to buy a tv dvdrw/vcr unit which is expensive.
The video editing is also very good, much like many stand alone packages on the market. This software gives you your moneys worth. Was this review helpful?

There are so many features I hardly know where to begin. First kudos for the new menus. I don't know the minutia of burning DVDs so the menus mad this process easy. There is also a slide show creator. You can export it to another app easily and then edit it. I found that I don't as much softwre as this package included programs to make disc labels, photo projects, and video editing besides the DVD/CD burning aspect. I'm pleased with this upgrade. Now I'm able to see my downloaded movies on my regular DVD player.
This new version let me convert a DivX move and make it so it plays on a regular DVD player.
The suite also contains My DVD express and is easy to understand. It was good at walking me through the process. I've had trouble with other media burning software before so I'm pleased that the wizards and menus are user friendly. Was this review helpful?
