Album Notes and Credits

Notes & Personnel Info
Though he's now renowned as the man who rediscovered a generation of Cuban musicians, bringing them to the world's attention with his series of Buena Vista Social Club releases, Ry Cooder began his artistic career as a successful blues instrumentalist. This entertaining compilation gathers recordings by Cooder's many early influences, such as Sleepy John Estes, Blind Alfred Reed, and Blind Willie McTell, in addition to the activist folk songs of Woody Guthrie; many of these songs were later reinterpreted on Cooder's solo albums, such as INTO THE PURPLE VALLEY, BOOMER'S STORY, and PARADISE AND LUNCH.
