Notes & Personnel Info
Compilation producers: Craig Balsam, Cliff Chenfeld.
If you grew up in the mid-to-late '70s, or just wish you did, ROCK THIS will deliver a generous dose of radio-friendly AOR from that era. The key to this kind of music is that it took the power of heavy guitar rock and yoked it to an accessible, hook-filled melodic sensibility. While Ted Nugent's primal "Cat Scratch Fever" represents the grittier end of the spectrum, Boston's "Long Time," Pat Benatar's "Heartbreaker," and Foreigner's "Feels Like the First Time" are the perfect union of crunching riffs, soaring vocals, and irresistible choruses. The more angular, synth-colored sound of the Cars' "Just What I Needed" and (whether you want to admit it or not) Loverboy's "Turn Me Loose" herald the arrival of New Wave and its eventual assimilation into the mainstream.
