Featuring 14 of Wolf's best songs, it includes strong performances by Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris, Nanci Griffith, and other prominent artists as well as by some talented folks who've been in the shadows in recent years, such as Rosalie Sorrels, U. Utah Philips, and Terry Garthwaite. Interestingly, few of these artists ever actually knew Wolf; they were simply so touched by her music that they felt as if they'd known her. Listening to these warm yet unsentimental, deceptively simple-sounding tunes, it's not hard to hear why. Wolf sang about love and life in a way that made you feel you were being admitted to her private world -- and that you were very glad to be there. ~ Jeff Burger | | Kate Wolf, the singer-songwriter who died of leukemia at age 44 in 1986, after 15 years on the folk music scene, has been described by many musicians as powerfully, if quietly, influential. TREASURES LEFT BEHIND pays tribute to Wolf's enormous musical contribution, with folk and country artists covering some of her best-loved songs. Intimate tunes with simple arrangements like "Here in California," sung by Lucinda Williams, and "Friend of Mine," by Nanci Griffith, best convey Wolf's gentle, understated style. "Tequila and Me," covered by Greg Brown and Ferron, proves that Wolf was capable of a wry sense of humor. TREASURES was produced by Wolf's close friend and collaborator, Nina Gerber, who also plays guitar on most of the songs. | Producer: Nina Gerber | Engineer: Nina Gerber; Darol Anger; Dave Dysart; Mische Eddins; Gary Mankin; Mark Linett; Mick Conley; Paul Kennerley; Tom Size; Bil VornDick |
