Notes & Personnel Info | | Lil Jon: Lil Jon; DJ Smurf, Ludacris, Ying Yang Twins. | | Audio Mixer: John Wydrycs. | | Editor: Brian Fleniken. | | Cashing in on two exploding trends at once, Ichiban's Reggaeton Remix mixes old Lil Jon tracks with the sound of Puerto Rico's hottest export, reggaeton. Lil Jon himself is uninvolved and it shows. This is more remixer 305's idea of what reggaeton sounds like, and the results would never be mistaken as authentic. Interesting idea, but this is for Lil Jon fanatics only. ~ David Jeffries | | Making a sleazy effort to cash in on two trends at once, Ichiban Records mixes the wee bit of Lil Jon music they own reggaeton style, or at least Ichiban's idea of what reggaeton sounds like. The ultimate irony of this dismal EP is that Ichiban is based in Florida, where the amount of reggaeton on the radio, in the streets, and in the stores outweighs the amount in the other 49 states combined. Still, remixer 305 gives "Get Crunk" a glittery, synthesized salsa beat, and "Bounce Dat" and "Cut Up" each get a backing track that's a cheap imitation of the Swiss synth duo Yello. The rest of the EP gets closer to the reggaeton sound, but your grandmother could tell you this is a pale imitation of Puerto Rico's hottest export and an EP the uninvolved Lil Jon would not deem crunk. ~ David Jeffries | | With the reggaeton boom still going strong at the end of 2005, it's not surprising that this unofficial remix album surfaced, since Lil Jon's patented "crunk" sound was another of the year's chart-topping hip-hop mutations. Here a handful of Lil Jon tunes get the full reggaeton treatment, with Latin rhythms, blasting horns, and a boisterous dancehall vibe backing up snippets of the original rap vocals, resulting in a party-ready mix. | Engineer: 305 | Musical Guests | | Ying Yang Twins | | Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz | | Ludacris |
