Album Notes and Credits

Notes & Personnel Info
Personnel: Tim Crouch (banjo); Mike Kennedy (drums); Doug Driesel, Pam Kirby (background vocals).
Actor Mare Winningham, who converted to Judaism in 2003, has always had a serious interest in folk music, releasing albums in between acting assignments, but this 2007 release is her most interesting by far: a collection of Jewish-themed country songs, united by their lyrical content and even a tinge of minor-key klezmer sensibility. Winningham's crystalline voice slides effortlessly from alto to soprano, and the musical backing is simple but just right--haunting violin lines on songs like "What Would David Do?" and "Wall of Prayer" reach right into the listener's chest and massage the heart.

Producer: Tim Crouch

Engineer: Jon Raney

Professional Reviews
Dirty Linen (p.74)
- "[W]ith spare instrumental backing from Doug Driesel and Mike Kennedy and Pam Kirby's intuitive shadow vocals, Winningham's otherwise gripping selection are given equal, if aesthetically distinct gravitas."
