 Editor's Note
This Disney Channel program is based on the book HOW MY PRIVATE, PERSONAL JOURNAL BECAME A BESTSELLER by Julia Devillers. The film stars Kay Panabaker as Jamie, a 14-year-old girl dealing with more than her fair share of gossip, cliques, and social frustration at the hands of her school's popular, mean crowd. When she writes about these awful experiences in her journal, she changes people's names and adds some fictional elements. In the journal, she identifies herself as Is, a character who, despite being popular, couldn't care less about her social status. But when Jamie accidentally turns in her journal entries for a school assignment, the world takes notice of her writing and Jamie becomes an instant star. Everything goes swimmingly until Is stars to take over Jamie's actual life, threatening her friendships and making people question Jamie's character.

| | Professional Reviews | Variety 7 of 10 Disney Channel learned the devotion and purchasing power of the tween viewer with the overwhelming success of "High School Musical." Perhaps with its latest original pic, the Mouse will learn not to take those same viewers for granted. "Read It and Weep," based on the popular book, "How My Private, Personal Journal Became a Bestseller," is fun, frivolous and totally forgettable...Director Paul Hoen keeps things moving at breakneck speed, compromising the impact of Jamie's rise and fall and redemptive lesson. It just goes to show that instant gratification may not be that gratifying. - Laura Fries
