Album Notes and Credits

Notes & Personnel Info
Compilation producers: Craig Bloom, Cliff Chenfield.
In the past few decades, the influence of reggae and dancehall music has quietly crept into mainstream commercial pop music. Its undeniably catchy rhythms and melodies have contributed to some of pop music's highest and lowest points. Thankfully, Rasta Jamz has more of the former than the latter, cultivating pretty much all of the major radio hits this side of UB40 and putting them into one convenient package. With pop-reggae's most well-known ambassador, Shaggy, sounding off the call with his anthem "Boombastic," Rasta Jamz builds momentum with hit upon hit until it unfortunately deflates with the inclusion of Snow's "Informer." While its commercial success is undeniable, one might as well have put a Brian Austin Green song on there, as they are both equal in quality. Overall, it's a sharp compilation and would serve anyone well as a sharp survey into the world of commercial pop-reggae. ~ Rob Theakston
Those compilation-crazy folks at Razor & Tie records are at it again. One minute they're releasing a collection of heavy '70s rock, the next they're issuing a dance music best-of disc. This time around, with RASTA JAMZ, they turn their attention to the always-bustling genre of dancehall reggae. Shabba Ranks, Shaggy, Super Cat, the biggies are all here, even the Eminem of dancehall, Snow, is represented with his runaway '90s hit "Informer." If you're unfamiliar with this particular branch of the reggae tree, RASTA JAMZ is a painless place to start.
