Most of the collection reflects the stale, recycled feel of teen pop after its late-'90s heyday (you know the collection is in trouble when a remix of *NSYNC's "Pop" is one of the freshest-sounding tracks on it). 3 Doors Down's "Kryptonite" and LMNT's "Hey Juliet" inject a little rock into the proceedings, but more often than not the songs here tend toward the creepy (Play's ode to obsessive preteen love, "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me") or sickly sweet (Aaron Carter's annoyingly self-referential "Oh Aaron"). There is some fun to be had on this collection, with the Baha Men's appealingly dumb "Move It Like This," the cartoon-pop of Simon and Milo's "Get a Clue," and No Secrets' cover of "Kids in America" (surely the unofficial anthem of the teen pop of the 2000s). M2M's "Everything" is the standout track here, and makes their relatively small fame that much more of a mystery. Despite its predictability, the collection will probably please its target audience. ~ Heather Phares | | In a quest for the sounds of the pre-teen set, look no further than the House Of Mouse. RADIO DISNEY JAMS VOL.5 once again breaks off a big chunk of playlist from its corporate parent's radio network and puts it into a neat package. Starting with the two biggest boy bands on Earth, the Backstreet Boys ("What Makes You Different [Makes You Beautiful]") and N Sync ("Pop [Deep Dish Cha-Ching Remix]"), most of this world gets represented in the shape of groups rather than individual performers. Aaron Carter is one of the few solo artists on this disc but with help from older brother/Backstreet Boy Nick and No Secrets on "Oh Aaron," this very well could be labeled a group effort. | | Other artists making the scene include Bahamian natives The Baha Men checking in with "Move It Like This," sole rock act Three Doors Down representing with their smash "Kryptonite," and mini-divettes 3LW rockin' the mike on "Playas Gon' Play." Cover songs are an equally significant part of this collection and include Jump 5 making like Lee Greenwood ("God Bless The USA"), No Secrets revisiting '80s icon Kim Wilde ("Kids In America"), and A*Teens giving it up for Elvis ("Can't Help Falling In Love"). | | In a quest for the sounds of the pre-teen set, look no further than the House Of Mouse.
