This is my second UMPC. The first one was OQO model 2. While the form factor and design of OQO seems to be better than that of Samsung, the reliability and especially the battery life of Samsung is unbeatable. This computer can run for 5-7 hours on one charge. OQO cannot do more than 2 hours at the most. The brightnes of the screen of Samsung is acceptable even for a bright day. A little shade makes it possible to use it outside. It was easy to add an extra GB of memory (you would actually have to replace the existing memory). There is a slot for a GSM module, if one wants to use this computer on cellular networks. It is ealy to connect an external USB or bluetooth keyboard. There many more ports on Samsung as opposed to OQO. This is a much more usable computer than OQO. It would become an even better UMPC if Samsung would get rid of the mini keyboard on the top and shrink the size of the whole unit. This built-in keyboard is a joke and barely usable. Other than the keyboard I have no complaints about this UMPC.

This in my opinion is the best UMPC on the market right now, the balance of size, performance, weight, and features is nearly perfect. While it has no full size keyboard, it has many ways to input text, the mini keyboard on the device, on screen keyboard (zero weight keyboard) and written text. If you don't need to enter in massive amounts of text then you can definitely live without a full size keyboard with this device. The most important feature found in this device is the CPU, compared to the original Q1U (A110 800mhz) CPU, the Q1UP's 1.33ghz core solo makes the device capable of just about anything you can throw at it, on the Q1U A110 that was not the case, video stutters, and Vista lags badly unless heavily optimized, even then it will lock up randomly. This device handles Vista very smoothly, plays HD videos perfectly. Fingerprint reader, makes logging in so much easier than trying to type out a password on such a small device, and is a must for any UMPC. Also the 5-7 hour battery run time makes this device shine, you can use the device for long periods with having to charge it, there are not many laptops or UMPCs that can boast that much battery life right out of the box. Webcams on the front and back are very nice as well for skype, while not the best quality it functions adequately. Interior design allows for upgrades. While not the easiest device to open and upgrade things like ram, it can be done without too much hassle, and the device has a spare mini pci express slot for adding things like HSDPA/EVDO mobile broadband cards, along with the included sim slot behind the battery. I would only recommend opening the unit if you have worked with computer hardware before. The device offers the right balance for me that no other device on the market can offer me today.

I am very satisied with the performance of this Samsung Q1 Ultra (w/ XP operating system)! It is reasonably fast for a 1GB memory PC, does not get hot and it's very quiet! In addition, the battery power on this PC is amazing. I had it working off its included A/C adaptor for 6 to 8 hours and it still did not run the battery all the way down! Unbelievable! I have not tested it to its full limits yet, but overall I would recommend this small PC to anyone! You can also use it in your car .... visit MountGuys.com for adaptors. My main complaint is that an external DVD writer/drive is not included in the packaged price. Other Complaints: Recorded videos (off the rear camera) are weak and the sound quality is not great. In addition, when hooked up to an external 32-inch monitor using a VGA cable, the screen resolution is stretched out (so it does not look good). However, by itself, the quality of the LCD is very good. I would recommend an external Bluetooth keyboard and mouse for this PC if you're going to use it heavily for emails, Word and Excel docs since it's hard to get used to the keyboard buttons that you see on each side (i.e. too small for even slim fingers!). ON A SIDE NOTE: I do not know how well the Vista version of this PC works, but I heard it comes with 2GB of memory. I'd say you need as much memory as you can get on a Vista PC because my new Dell XPS M1530 laptop w/ Vista O/S crashes constantly (and I am also losing data on my Palm Desktop constantly). My laptop is only one month old too. Vista has some nice features to it, but as of 7/14/08 (after it's been out for 18 months now), is as "buggy" as Windows ME was! Microsoft better get its act together! My advice is, get the XP version of the Q1! FUTURE IDEAS: I hope that Samsung looks into the idea of adding an IR transmitter so you can use it as a remote control for your home audio/video system. I am able to connect my USB adaptor for my HAI home automation system, so it would be nice to do more with this Q1.

Last year, I had my heart and money set on buying the Samsung Q1 Ultra. However, when I discovered how slow they were (due to the Intel chip they were using), I decided against it. This Ultra Premium is everything that a UMPC should be. It is fast, portable, powerful, and fun! It can even play 720p HD videos without breaking a sweat. Other key features that are simply wonderful are the screen (gorgeous and bright), doesn't get hot at all, web cam for Skype video chats, and the battery which can run for over 6 hours with wifi turned on! Samsung has a winner here and I hope that they'll reject the Atom chip and continue to use more powerful Intel chips as they upgrade their Q1 UMPCs. The only thing that Samsung needs to work on is the keyboard (it could be better). I just love my Q1 Ultra Premium and absolutely recommend it for those looking for a powerful UMPC. And by the way, Buy.com has the best price on this machine... thanks Buy.com!

I bought this to replace a laptop I wanted to get rid of. I wanted something smaller but just as powerfull. I have looked at the q1 ultras before but didnt think that 800mhz was powerfull enough. However with the 1.33ghz i was surprised at how fast it is. I am very surprised at how quick it is and it has taken everthing I have thrown at it. Very good product!!!!
