5 of 5 SanDisk Sansa E140 Wednesday, July 19, 2006
daringdo from WA

This is less a review of the Sansa E140 than it is about Buy.com. This company is by far the most reliable one I've dealt with while making online purchases. Products are delivered early! or right on time. I love coming here and shopping around knowing that I'll get great service and a product that is exactly as advertised. Oh, yea, my review of the Sansa E140...it rocks...get new headphones the ones they send are kind of cheesy, but it works great when I use my Koss Sparkplugs! Excellent for the price I am very happy with it.

5 of 5 Great little player Monday, July 17, 2006
grickert from Larchmont, NY
A terrific little player, complete with expandibility and good earbuds to boot. Only one minor complaint -- I can't seem to arrange my songs in anything but alphabetical order -- doesn't seem to allow grouping by album. Perhaps it's just my ineptness. Other than that, however, I'd give the Sansa e140 a big thumbs up.

5 of 5 Very good MP3 player Monday, June 26, 2006
comache13 from Chalk Hill, PA
I really liked the MP3 player because it fulfilled my requirements for a MP3 player(if I dropped it, it wouldn't fall apart or stop working for good). Overall, I would definitely reccommend it to someone.

5 of 5 WOW this thing is great! Saturday, June 24, 2006
noelvh2000 from Landing, New Jersey
I am wirting this review using my new MP3 Player. I have to say thumbs up for this device. I read a ton of review on 1GB mp3 players and the Sansa E140 had the best reviews out there, and righfully so! "Real men don't need instructions" is one of the best quots and Sandisk made this unit so easy the quot fits it. A+++ Sandisk, and Buy.com.

5 of 5 Nice player for an average user Tuesday, May 16, 2006
A Customer from Plano, TX
My background: I consider myself an "average" user when it comes to MP3 players. I listen to MP3 players from my IPAQ and from my computer. I needed something I could take to the gym (where I can't get radio reception.) I was looking for something on the low end since I won't use it too much. *** I'm really thrilled with what I got! I think it has pretty good sound. It seems like it has a lot of bass - but you can't equalize it. It categorizes your music so you can select by artist, album (I think) and some other categories (I don't use this feature much) I don't really use the radio feature - when I tested it, it was "ok" - not the greatest reception. I haven't tried listening to books yet (you get 3 free downloads from audible.com). *** It comes with a little clear pouch that you put the armband through - seems a little strange - but I guess that would be good to keep stuff (sweat or other junk) off of it. *** I am also using this player with an FM Transmitter in my truck so I can listen to my MP3 players on the go - so I'm using it more than I had anticipated. I highly recommend!

5 of 5 Basic Functionality better than the popular player Saturday, April 15, 2006
Jim from Chicago, IL
Things I like about this mp3 player - (1) it uses standard AAA batteries, so I can use my own, inexpensive nimh rechargeable aaa batteries. (2) it is expandable with SD memory cards up to 2 gb. This seems unfortunately rare for MP3 players, since most offer fixed, built-in memory. With the price of SD cards coming down, you may choose to have some extras filled with additional music, books, etc. (3) You can put mp3/wma files on the device as a standard memory drive without special software, and can organize them with directories of your choosing if desired. (4) Includes FM radio. (5) Memory based device (rather than hard drive) won't be subject to skip if jogging, etc. -- This unit may not be among the most popular (iPod, iPod, iPod), but it is one of the most practical, functional and relatively inexpensive for playing mp3/wma/fm. Note that this is a basic MP3 player, it doesn't have the color graphics display and ability to view pics and movies. If you don't need the graphics, this is your player.

4 of 5 Potentially good player but genre faulty Tuesday, December 27, 2005
alistair_george from TX
Sound quality is great providing you disable SRS WOW and use manual EQ instead. I like the case; its easy to activate the keys through your pocket unlike most others. Earbuds are adequate, but have a straight plug, which should be right-angle for both convenience and less stress on socket. Sports strap hooks through cover, but cover dome easily falls off, releasing player to ground! The player will not resume a track. For example, if you are listening to an audiobook, then power off, it will not resume the shut down position. Menu system could be improved. It WILL NOT work on WMA tags to provide Genre correctly, nor will it work with many mp3 tags for Genre. If you dont use Genre, then that wont be an issue, but for me its a major as I use Genre depending on my flavour of the week. Hopefully, it will be fixed in some firmware update, but due to Sandisk lack of suitable response on this issue, I won't hold my breath.

5 of 5 Great Player! Thursday, October 20, 2005
kgosze01 from Ocala, FL
I bought this player primarily for audio books and just love it. The sound and volume control are excellent. It took me a little while to figure out the buttons, but they were fairly simple to learn. I haven't used it for MP3 songs yet, but I don't think I will be disappointed. Great Price too!

5 of 5 Great player for the price, radio works great!!! Tuesday, August 23, 2005
TwistedNee from Columbus Ohio
I decided to purchase this player and got the $30 dollar credit from buy.com on my account, ended up getting it for $81 bucks, all around this thing rocks. It is very light and I have had no problems with it. I would advise getting some type of battery recharge system as the batteries will run out after about a week of use (however I do listen to mine everyday at work). The ear buds are awesome; they come with replacements when these run out, much more comfortable than the iPod hard plastic earphones. And for people that are complaining about the plastic cover that goes over the SD card. When you take it out, it is kind of hard to get back in, but how cares, SD Cards are so cheap now stick one in there and leave it, the only reason to take it out is to upgrade to a bigger card, it will never need the plastic cover again. The only downside is the volume control. It does not seem to be very precise when moving from different volume levels. Over all I am very happy with my Sansa, for now I have the 1 Gig version and a 128MB card. Total I can get about 200 songs on it, plenty of music for way over a week!!!

5 of 5 Great MP3 Player Saturday, August 20, 2005
DM from Phoenix, AZ
It's not the smallest available, but it is small enough. I accept the size as a trade-off for the SD capability. Another reviewer mentioned that it starts at the beginning of a song after being shut off in the middle. I found this is true when using random, play all songs mode. However, I added a 6-hour long audio book (from audible.com) as a single file, and it does in fact pick up exactly where it left off, in the middle of the track, after being shut down. The sound quality is excellent, and it seems to handle high-bandwidth mp3 files well. I highly recommend this player.

5 of 5 This thing is worth every penny... Monday, August 15, 2005
Butch from Worcester, MA
I have been using the Sansa e140 (1GB) for a few days now and could not be happier with it. I read all the reviews I could find on this player before I purchased it and decided that even though some people complained about the flimsy plastic covers, the inability to play songs by track number and even the poor sound quality of the ear buds that it came with I was going to give it a shot. Let me tell you how glad I am that I did, sure the covers are a bit on the delicate side, but it’s an MP3 player not a hammer so be gentle with it anyway and yes the ear buds aren’t the best sound quality, but you can spend three times what the player itself cost on noise canceling headphones to achieve the sound quality some people expect of out of the box ear buds. As far as the whole can’t play tracks in order thing goes I have also owned a very expensive 20GB hard drive player who’s name I won’t mention (Rhymes with SMELL) and even that was unable to do so unless you take a couple extra minutes and drop an “01_, 02_, 03_...) before each song on a CD, which by the way works perfect on the Sansa as well. Finally, I am somewhat Techno Savvy but that being said I never even had to read the instructions on this player, I was able to just open the box put the battery in and drag and drop tunes to it, within seconds I was enjoying all the features that this well designed player had to offer.. Bottom line an awesome value, congrats SanDisk on a job well done.

5 of 5 Small size but big quality Tuesday, July 12, 2005
Chokchai from Valparaiso, IN
I bought this mp3 player for a while and very happy with its sound quality compare to the price. That's so great choice with SD card slot to expand the memory. The sound is so nice but not perfect at all, you can experience a good sound with preset and custom equalizer. Conclusion: Good price, Good quality

5 of 5 This is my new favorite gadget! I love it! Thursday, July 07, 2005
Spencer from SLC, UT
I bought it without holding it, testing it, or playing with it. I expected to be let down like I was with a few other MP3 players I had purchased. In fact the one purchase that makes me madder than any other was a horrific MP3 player. I thought the Sansa might be cheap or flimsy or difficult to use. None of that proved to be the case. I am EXTREMELY happy and VERY pleasantly surprised. It is very easy to xfer files to it. The interface is intuitive and very easy to use. Nice display, great sound, and lots of features. For example, it uses ID3; organizes the songs by artist, album, year, genre, etc. You can set the duration for the cool blue backlight to stay on, a nice equalizer, sleep timer, auto shut off timer, and FM radio with 20 presets. Wonderfully sized. Radio pulls in stations cleanly and clearly. The case is quality. The volume control has stops on it so it doesn't adjust by accident in your pocket or while jogging. The buttons are quality. Overall, I think they really got this little device right. <P> I must say that there is 1 small annoyance. Go to the radio and it comes on to static at 88.1. It doesn't remember the last station tuned to. This is dumb. On the other hand, you just have to press one button to go to the first preset. I bet this will be fixed in a future release. <P> Some complain that when you turn it on it doesn't cue up where it was when you turned it off. It starts back at the beginning of the song where it left off, just not in the middle of the song. But so what! If you listen to books, make sure you finish at the end of a track. That is easy. Most audio books are split into tracks every 3 or 10 minutes. Just break at a track or listen to a few minutes over again. <P> Some complain about the earphones. Come on, do you really expect they will include $50 earphones? I bought it for the player, not the phones. I want them to focus on the player, not the headphones. Get real. <P> There are tiny little covers on the USB hole and over the SD slot. I expect they will soon fall off and get lost. This is not a problem for me but others have mentioned it. <P> The truth is, I am not easy to please but I am wonderfully surprised by this MP3 player. It is my new favorite gadget.

5 of 5 Very good MP3 Player Saturday, May 28, 2005
Sonia1027 from Astoria, NY
I've been waiting for a really long time for a Flash Drive MP3 player with expandable memory and FM radio and after months of research and waiting SanDisk Sansa came out and after reading just one user review I decided to buy it since it seems to offer everything I wanted. Been using it for about a week and I'm very happy with my little Sansa MP3 player. Got it at Buy.com which usually offer the best prices on electronics and fast delivery. It is very light and easy to use, and though it is my first MP3 player I think it sounds pretty good. Even though it is quite inexpensive compared to similar players, I think it should have come with at least a 2GB Flash Drive. I don't understand why flash drives are so much more expensive than micro drives, but I can always expand the memory of my Sansa by adding a Secure Digital card at an additional expense increasing the price of the player. Not sure about the battery life. I used it with the included battery for just a couple of hours for two days before I had to replace the battery. Still don't know how long the new Energizer battery will last, but if it last more than 12 hours or up to the 17 hours claimed by SanDisk, that'll be very impressive considering that most MP3 player don't offer such a long battery life. I have no real complain about the Sansa except that the USB cable is very short, just a few inches long. And not sure if the in-earphones are better than the regular earphones, still need to get used to using them. Recommend rechargeable NIMH AAA batteries with quick charger.

5 of 5 Great sound quality and outstanding value Tuesday, May 24, 2005
JM from San Francisco, CA
The player is extremely light, and the sound quality is excellent when all the various electronic enhancements are utilized. Only limitation is the earbuds, and when I use my noise cancellation headphones the sound is outstanding. SD card expansion is extremely easy to use. Regarding comment of another reviewer that you can't play by track #, if you choose to play by album, the songs are ordered in the same order as on the album, so I'm not sure what his problem is. All you have to do is copy as separate folders for each artist. Great value considering all the features.

5 of 5 Great MP3 at a good price Monday, May 23, 2005
A Customer from kansas city, MO
Pros: Lightweight, 1 Gig flash mem, expandable, nice sound Cons: no resume feature Overall I really like this MP3 player. It plays my music far better than the buggy Rave-MP I owned before. My only qualm is that the player doesn't have an option to resume automatically and start playing the last song you were listening to when you turn it off. It starts on the same song, it just starts out paused at the beginning. The fact you can't adjust the volume from the stopwatch mode is also a bit annoying, but the resume feature is the only thing i don't like. Seems kinda pointless to be able to listen to eBooks or long MP3s if it won't resume where you left off.

2 of 5 Can not play by track number. Wednesday, May 18, 2005
Pete from Madison, WI
I can not believe that you can not play tracks by track number. To me, this lack of functionality is unacceptable. Here is the answer I received from SanDisk tech support on how I could play songs by track number: Hello, Thank you for contacting SanDisk Technical Support. It will not follow the track number. It will also play first in first out. Meaning whatever is copied first will be played first. Best Regards, Jean SanDisk Technical Support

5 of 5 great little mp3 player Thursday, April 28, 2005
A Customer from cincinnati
this mp3 player is great, not tiny but thats not always what someone wants. If you want tiny look up StationZ I.T or go to the site stationz.com and you'll find the smallest player available. but back to the point. the sansa is 1 gb, plenty to store a lot of music, but if you want more all you need to do is buy an sd card. thank god those cards are getting cheaper by the day. and this player can handle the 2 gb sd card from sandisk. something most other flash players that have an sd card slot can't do.
