3 of 5 Not much NC Thursday, July 24, 2008
A Customer from Ladera Ranch, CA
Used it on a plane. Some noise cancellation at low frequencies but not a lot. Doesn't make a big difference. The "hiss" sound is not acceptable for a "Hi-Fi" device like this.

1 of 5 If you want a pair of headphones that will break.. Thursday, July 10, 2008
A Customer from christiansburg Virginia
these headphones are terrible. I was wondering why they went down so far in price when I bought them. The "auto cord" feature sounds like a dream, but after a while the "auto cord" feature breaks and it wont stay unwound but keeps itself completely rolled up so you can't extend it any more. Buyer beware, don't purchase this product at any price unless you like to give away free money.

3 of 5 mediocre headsets Monday, June 23, 2008
keyframe from orlando
The earphones sound great though they can be a bit tight around your ears. The sound is great until you throw the noise cancellation switch. The phones emit a low hiss which does absolutely nothing to either enhance the quality of sound or cut ambient noise. If you are looking for a noise cancellation headphones, this is not it. If you are looking for a simple headphone, fordable and all, there are other cheaper choices. The bass is low..I would expected more sound clarity and power from JVC

5 of 5 Good value Thursday, May 15, 2008
A Customer from Canaan, NH
There was a screaming baby one row behind me on a recent flight, and I was so glad I had these headphones with me. They do reduce outside noise and have very decent audio quality. These sit on my ears rather than around my ears, but that makes them smaller to pack. I generally prefer the comfort of an around the ear headphone. My head is bald and the plastic band was not comfortable on the top of my head, until I adjusted the band to relieve pressure at the top of my head. After adjustment, there was no problem.

4 of 5 Great Headphones for The Price Wednesday, May 14, 2008

I got this set on a special for under 40 dollars shipped. I noticed it was selling at other places for 70+. There is a nice carry bag included. Overall, great sound.

5 of 5 Nice headphones, good value Tuesday, May 13, 2008
A Customer from Mid-Missouri
Comfortable, convenient. I especially appreciate the folding design and the retractible cord. There is noise suppression, though, since I have no reference as to what the maximum is that can be obtained, I cannot guage the relative degree. Sound quality is quite good.

4 of 5 Nice Accessory When Traveling Thursday, November 29, 2007
A Customer from Salt Lake City, UT
I travel a lot and use my noise canceling headphones exclusively while flying. Pros: They cancel the dull engine roar very effectively. I can actually hear those hard-to-hear in-flight announcements over the tinny aircraft loudspeaker system better with sound canceling on (but headphones not plugged in to the aircraft sound system) than when I am not wearing them at all. I like the retractable cord and the manner in which the headphones fold up. They are comfortable to wear and provide MUCH better sound for in-flight movies than the airlines' cheap headphones. Cons: They are a bit bulky, even when folded. They cancel low frequency engine roar, but allow higher frequency background noise through. I have not tried others, so I can't say whether these are better or worse than anything else that's out there. All I can say is that they make my flight experience better.

5 of 5 Very nice Wednesday, November 28, 2007
A Customer from Colorado Springs, CO
I got these to replace my on-ear noise cancelling headphones which didn't block the ambient noise as well as these. They cover the ears snuggly rather than rest on ear so ears get warm but you get better ambient noise cancellation with the ear covered. You also can run your volume lower with this design. Folds up and fits nicely into the included pouch. Retractable cord is great! No cord clutter or tangle in your carry-on bag. Very good value.

2 of 5 Disappointing Wednesday, November 28, 2007
A Customer from Austin, TX
When you turn these on without listening to music there is the distict sound of white noise being generated. Every other set of noise canceling headphone that I have tried this with were silent.

3 of 5 OK but don't think you're getting Bose Friday, August 10, 2007
A Customer from Anywhere, NY
Performance is ok. Overall sound is average. Bass is nothing spectacular. They also don't block out noise very well. I use them to mow my lawn and I can still her a lot of background noise.

5 of 5 Truly Impressive Wednesday, November 08, 2006
Woo from Washington, DC
I was skeptical about these noise-canceling headphones. I had tried the excellent $300 Bose headphones, and I had also tried some $50 phones that didn't work very well. All of the positive reviews I found for this product, however, convinced me to give them a try. Color me impressed. Very impressed. The noise-canceling function great (amazing on airplanes, and really takes the edge off on the subway), and the battery life is much longer than I thought it would be. Here's the kicker - these would be worth the price without the noise-canceling function. They fold up to a very reasonable size, to the point where I always have them in my briefcase. The retractable cord is brilliant and never gets tangled. Most importantly, I've really beaten these things up over the last 7 months, and they still work perfectly...they don't have a mark on them! I would buy these again in a minute. In fact, I'm going to buy some as a gift for a friend, which is why I came back to this page in the first place.

5 of 5 Happy with the headphones Wednesday, October 25, 2006
A Customer from Birmingham, Alabama
This was my first venture in into the world of noise-reduction headphones, and I am very satisfied. I recently took a long flight, and the airplane adaptor worked great. The quality of the sound for the movie was superior to what I could receive with the airplane headset, and when I wanted to sleep I was amazed that I slept so soundly that I completely missed the meal service! The noise-canceling function works very well - granted, you have to live with some level of hissing, but I found that I simply tuned it out. Without the noise cancelation, the sound of the airplane was very loud.

4 of 5 good headphones Tuesday, October 24, 2006
A Customer from Wake Forest, NC
The headphones provided a nice snug fit. It feels comfortable and the retractable cord is a nice touch. It helps reduce the tangle wire clutter on my desk. Haven't had a chance to use the noise cancelling mode to it's fullest extent yet to provide an opinion.

4 of 5 As Advertised Thursday, September 14, 2006
A Customer from Metuchen, NJ
This JVC HA-NC100 Noise Canceling Headphones works well. While it doesn't cancel all the background noise, it does do a good job. It is advertised to cancel 75% of the noise, and that it does seem to do. Overall, it is east to use, comfortable, compact and functional.

5 of 5 Great headsets Sunday, July 02, 2006
A Customer from North Brunswick, NJ
I have never purchased a noise-cancelling headset before, and this one really does work. It is amazing to turn it on when you are on a plane, and literally hear the jet noise dampen out. The headset is also very comfortable, and it is great to get the adapter which allows you to use it on a plane.

5 of 5 Great value! Wednesday, March 29, 2006
RG from Philadelphia, PA
After my last set of noise cancelling headphones broke after 1 year (not JVC) I decided to look for quality and functionality in my new set. When I saw this, I had to try them. The sound quality is very good and they are comfortable (even with a bald head like mine :-) ). I use these on the train for an hour each morning and it drowns out everything. You can hear some things if your music is between songs, but it is very muted (which I think is normal). The functionality features I love are that the cord rewinds and that the on/off switch and battery are in/on the unit itself. My old set had these as part of the cord and that is where it broke after daily use and storage in a backpack. My only suggestion is to not pull the cord out with the plug itself - I could see that breaking in time. For the price, this is an incredible buy!

5 of 5 NICE! Worth every penny Tuesday, March 14, 2006
Mr Bob - bob at imageperfection dot com from San Lorenzo, CA
I have not tried these on a plane yet, have only tried either the noise cancelling feature or the efficacy of the sound just yet, so can't give a full review. But on each of these tests, the results were good, separately. This is after having been severely disappointed with the Altec Lansing version I bought recently and sent back, because they altered the eq of the sound when the Noise Cancelling switch was turned on, plus amplifying it quite a bit at the same time, making AB tests extremely hard to do. But I did accomplish that by adjusting the relative AB volumes of NC'd vs. non-NC'd and still found them wanting, as the eq'd version in NC mode was harsher than the pure unadulterated version, which was quite good and worthy of the Altec name while the eq'd version was not. They also max'd out into over modulation distortion way before achieving enough usable volume for a plane ride. The NC version didn't achieve anywhere near as much usable volume as the pure unadulterated version, without the noise cancellation. Not so with these JVC phones. The volume goes down just a bit when you kick the NC switch on but not noticeably so, and the eq stays the same in either case, preserving the niceness of the sound, plus they will go as loud in one mode as in the other. The enclosing of the ears is essential for capturing the delicacies of the musical nuances on a plane. I am hoping the deep bass will hang in there, too, but again have not tried them out on a plane yet. The only drawbacks are that there is lots of "air" noise - hiss - whenever it's in NC mode while listening in my living room in relative silence. But this is usually a negligible concern when in high decibel apps like plane flight. The reverse-phasing mikes also let in high frequencies, which could be a double edged sword: on one hand they let you hear what's going on around you, which would be good if you were being illegal and wearing them while driving. On the other they let you hear what's going on around you which may not be good on a plane, with other people talking all around you. And they are not as sensitive/efficient as my slightly more spacious sounding Sony MDR-V7's, though their deep bass freq's are louder than those studio grade Sony’s. Time will tell whether they will pass all tests at the same time, but for now I'm pretty impressed.

5 of 5 Great Value Sunday, March 05, 2006
A Customer from Clearwater, FL
As a frequent flyer who has used Bose headsets on intercontental flights many times I must say I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this product. I have used these headsets on four flights over the last 2 weeks and find them to be great. Although only about 80% of the Bose noise cancelling capability. However, price versus Bose this product can't be beat! I highly recommend them.

3 of 5 Not so great Monday, February 27, 2006
A Customer from Redmond, WA
As headphones, they perform reasonably well. As noise-cancelling headphones, they are disappointing. Rather than cancelling noise, they (at best) cover it with white noise that also covers the details of the material being listened to. When faced with the extremely challenging environment of full thrust-reversers on landing, the noise-cancellation system went psychotic. Ultimately, I used them only in non-cancelling mode and was generally pleased with their performance as headphones. The retractable cord is very nice.

5 of 5 Cancels the right noise Monday, February 27, 2006
Josh from Duluth, GA
I laughed at the reviewer who said he could still hear 'every word' spoken by other passengers. Noise cancellation isn't intended to cancel out voices, only white noise caused by engine rumble, air conditioning systems, etc. It's not supposed to be the 'cone of silence'. These phones do a remarkable job for the price. I've paid more in the past for higher end phones but for the price they were only moderately better. These are a steal... so get them today!

1 of 5 Very Poor Noise Cancellation / Good Sound Otherwis Wednesday, February 22, 2006
Alex from Denver, Co. USA from Denver, Colorado
These cancel 10-20% at the most! They should not be sold as noise canceling phones at all! I could hear EVERY WORD the people across the airplane aisle said during the whole flight. On turbo-props - the sound is actually AMPLIFIED! Too late to return, so I think I'm stuck with these. They are OK as regular stereo headphones.

5 of 5 Great little headset! Tuesday, February 21, 2006
Dan from San Jose, CA
Everything Rick said, and more. Very easy to use, and decent performance. Retractable cord stows best when headphones are folded. Not all external noise is reduced, just below 1500 Hz, but that eliminates most of the LF hum you'd hear from HVAC systems, cruising motor noise, etc. Delivery was prompt, received in perfect condition; very satisfied with purchase.

This was a trial for me and unfortunately these fell short...the actual ear pieces are too small which made them uncomfortable within about 5 minutes...also, the rewind mechanism, although a good idea, was not easy to use...all in all a disappointment

5 of 5 Works like a charm Thursday, January 26, 2006
Stephen Einson from Batavia, OH
The headphones worked like a charm on a recent flight on a Boeing 757. Previously I had to crank up the volume of my portable DVD player to listen to the dialog. The noise cancelling circuitry reduced the low frequency drone substantially, allowing me to lower the volume to a comfortable level. The On/Off switch allows quick and easy comparison of the performance of the unit. The wind up cord is a convenience, but you should keep a little tension on the cord as it is drawn into the headset.

4 of 5 Quality Headphones Sunday, January 15, 2006
jaypozz from Queens County, New York
I ride the NYC Subway for approximately 2 1/2 hours, Monday through Friday. Those of you that are familiar with the subway know how noisy it can be. These headphones are fantastic! Nothing cuts out every little bit of outside noise but these headphones do cancel a lot of distractions. I listen to my Cd's quite often. I thought I knew each album pretty much by heart. Now, with my JVC Noise Canceling headphones, I am hearing things in the music that I never heard before. I even put them to the ultimate test. I listened to soft classical music the other day and I heard every note without fumbling to make my unit louder and lower then louder once again. In a sentence, buy-em, they sound great!

5 of 5 works for drumming also Wednesday, November 30, 2005
strykercs from San Diego, CA
It was my birthday a week ago and my brother bought me these headphones. I play drums for band and we do a majority of our practice in a fairly small studio. With these headphone on and the NC ability turn on it made jamming out much easier on the ears. It does not totally cancel out the the sound but dampens it about 60%, which is perfect for a musician. I also took these on plane trips and they totally cancel out the drone of the engines. These are gerat for the price.

5 of 5 Excellent choice Tuesday, November 15, 2005
J.B. from Long Island, New York
The previous reviews led me to choose the JVC headphones. Just returned from trip and kept them on during entire flight. Very comfortable. Made watching TV on plane much more enjoyable, as they filter out virtually all noise, not just plane/engine sounds, but people also. Riding the train, I am finally free of having to listen to loud cell phone song ringing and being subjected to other people's loud personal telephone conversations. I've even worn them without listening to music, just for the noise reduction benefits and they make the trip sooooo much better. Heard that the Bose are supposedly the "Rolls Royce" of headphones, but for a total cost of $46, these headphones do the job.

5 of 5 Kids want more Monday, October 17, 2005
Jen from Woodstock, ALabama
I bought these and really like them. The cushions around ears are cushy soft and I love the retractable cord and the way they fold up and go in the pouch. My kids are fighting over them constantly so I am buying 2 more. They have survived them for 6 months so they are pretty durable and the cord is still retracting and hasn't pulled out yet

5 of 5 nice NC headphone Thursday, August 25, 2005
noangeles_15 from hamilton, nj
I was pleasantly suprised to find out what a great purchase I had made. These headphones are very durable due to their simple construction and its automatic rewinding . Notable features make this headphone a must own, i have a sony NC6, but this is my best choice as of now. it's quite good for a $$ spent on a cheap NC headphone.

5 of 5 Great NC headphones for the price! Monday, July 11, 2005
Rick from St. Louis, Missouri
I bought the JVC on price and it turns out that the quality is pretty good too. With my iPod, the music sounds great--better than any other headphones/earpieces I own. Put the JVCs on while sitting on a plane, and flip on the NC switch--it's amazing to hear the engine noise go away. Two small negatives--the retractable cord doesn't retract easily (sometimes you have to play with it) and listening in warm conditions produces moisture around the ears. Overall, I think these headphones are one of the best electronic values I've found in the past year. Now I'm going to buy a second set for the wife.
