5 of 5 Great Remote Thursday, February 28, 2008 A Customer from Portland Oregon
I have used this remote for about 6 months. Battery life is fine. The only negative is the lack of tactile feedback [not sure if you are hitting the right spot.] Other than that this device is perfect. Controls my home theater and an off market TV that has no codes recognizable by any other remote. The power macro and the universal volume is perfect for home theater application Was this review helpful?

I have a Sony TV, as Sony VCR, an Onkyo 6-disc DVD player, and and Onkyo receiver - each one had its own remote control. The Kameleon r/c not only look very stylish and high tech, but almost met all my needs. I said almost because I need to figure out to program this remote to change DVD discs (I don't think it has enough buttons - it may have enough, but they will not logically follow 1-6 disc). Another vent is when I am on TV mode, you can scroll to 3 different screens on the remote - I always go to the "2nd" screen where the buttons active will be less, but from time to time, it will come back to default "show-all" buttons even though the last time, it was on the "2nd" screen. Other than these complaints, I will recommend this product to everyone. All my friends who saw it were very impressed. Was this review helpful?

Simply put it is the best remote I have ever used. I can control my TV, DVR, DVD and Surround Sound. Highly recommended! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Love It Tuesday, September 25, 2007 A Customer from Santa Clara, Ca
This is the best Universal remote that I have had a chance to use. I have owned other remotes but there always seems to be 1 or 2 units that they don't work with. The ability to program individual buttons makes this the perfect unit and easy to set up too. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Kameleon Universal Remote Tuesday, September 25, 2007 Jim from Shreveport, LA
I received this remote just a few days after my order. The price was great at $29.99. The remote works pretty much as promised. It only lights up when you press the touchscreen for a user-definable length of time. I have mine shut off after about 10 seconds. It's a bit inconvenient to do that, but the batteries wouldn't last anytime at all if you leave it on all the time. It wouldn't quite display all the commands on my Comcast HD-DVR remote, but it did have most of them. I'm fairly pleased with my purchase. It learns commands from other remotes well. It's a decent remote at this price point. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Sweet Remote Tuesday, September 25, 2007 A Customer from Chandler, AZ
This remote is a breeze to program and set up macros. I want to buy 3 more when they go on sale. This is an awesome Christmas gift for the techie in your life. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 definitely recommend it Tuesday, September 25, 2007 A Customer from Columbus, OH
The unit works just fine. I connected it to almost every device I had. The only thing I could connect it to was my DivX player RJ Tech RJ-800DVX. The customer service sent me a hardware update wave-file, but the unit gave an error message. I tried playing it both on the computer and over the phone. The customer service even sent another file, but to no avail. I guess this is just not a very typical device, and RJ-Tech is not a major brand. Other than that I am totally satisfied with the product and I definitely recommend it to others. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Product Tuesday, September 25, 2007 A Customer from Raleigh, NC
Had this remote for a few months and love it. The set up was easy and it replaces a bunch of other remotes. I have a high end receiver that required extra help to set up because it has separate On and Standby switches which require separate functions. I have been too lazy to call the company to see if they have a better idea that what I used to make it work. Reduce the time the display is alive and the batteries will last as long as any other remote. I keep my viewing room dark, so the lighted display is Great! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Very nice remote Tuesday, September 25, 2007 A Customer from Atlanta, GA
This remote is just plain cool. Within 5 minutes I had it controlling my TV, DVD player, and Series 1 Tivo. It came pre-programmed to operate a Tivo when in PVR mode, which is a great bonus.
The blue backlit screen is very attractive, and comes on when you move it. Without too much effort I was able to get it to learn some of the special keys from my other remotes. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great for the price Tuesday, September 25, 2007 Nathan from Va
Just make sure to turn off the motion sensor if you have kids, etc. It'll save the battery. Easy change if you read the manual. Only annoyance is having to push the PVR button when I am in satellite mode to bring up the play/pause/rew/ffw buttons. I don't know why they can't always be there. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Worth the money Monday, September 24, 2007 Eric from Edgewood, KY
Very satisfied so far. Nice features, fairly easy to program, might be a little tough for some. I did have to program a couple keys that did not work on my Onkyo receiver, but the manual was easy to follow. I really like the illuminated screen. First set of (4) batteries lasted two months. Need to make sure you turn off the sensor that turns the illumination on by movement, otherwise the batteries may not last that long. Manual shows how easily. Very nice unit. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Oh man this thing is great Monday, September 24, 2007 A Customer from Fairfax Station VA
Simply easy to use, good value, and very pretty to look at. The only downside is the slightly over sensitive motion sensor that turns the light on. False lighting killed the vast majority of my batteries, and it was quick. Still love this sucker though. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Best remote ever, well that I've used Tuesday, September 11, 2007 A Customer from Brooklyn, N.Y.
Works great, programmed 6 devices to it and no problems at all. Didn't have one of my devices codes but I was able to use the learn feature and programmed all the buttons I needed.
It also may be a new model because you can disable the motion sensor by just putting in a code. No need to open it and cut stuff like some other reviews said.
Only negative is that my audio receiver has an on button and a standby button to power it off, and this remote only has a power on/off button so I had to learn the standby button to another button I didnt need. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 simply great universal remote Monday, September 10, 2007 tjs from spotsylvania, virginia
This remote is excellent. Easy to follow directions and it's up and running. The macro and learning key modes are brilliant. After setup it's easy to use - turn off the motion sensor and the excessive battery use is a non-issue. Highly recommend. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Great Product, Better price Monday, September 10, 2007 Liz from Boston
This remote allowed us to toss 3 of our 5 remotes cluttering up the living room. Set-up was very easy upon reading a few paragraphs from the instructions. It helps to have those handy!
It didn't find a newer DVD-R player that we have as well as our Micro-bit stereo system which is hooked up to our tv (we use it as surround). But succesfully and quickly found our HDTV, HD-DVR (Tivo) and another DVD player.
Overall we're very pleased with this product and recommend it for sheer organizational purposes. Also LOVE the fact that it lights up with its' motion sensor. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Device Wednesday, August 15, 2007 Joe from Waynesboro, GA
Great Unit. Have an odd Motorola Home Theater/Cable Tuner and Soyo LCD TV. Haven't found codes in any device. Learning function took care of everything. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Great concept with a couple of small but fatal fla Tuesday, August 14, 2007 JBL from San Diego, CA
This is a fairly well-thought-out piece of gear to add to any system requiring control of multiple pieces working together in a home theater. The programmability and customization available with this thing is really neat. Unfortunately, there are some flaws that make this tough to recommend. Most of these could be addressed with a firmware change - though there don't seem to be any updates available. In my case, though, one flaw was seemingly an assembly error with the unit which caused many of the buttons along the left side of the face to have no physical feedback whatsoever. In fact, it now (after only 30 days of usage) appears to always think that one or more of these buttons is stuck in the pressed position full-time.
An example of the type of flaw that a firmware update could address: You MUST defeat the unit's vibration sensitivity in order to make the batteries last for more than 5 days. Once you have done this, you'll need to press one of the buttons on the face in order to "wake up" the remote each time you'd like to use it. The problem is that the remote takes this initial button press as a valid input and sends the code to your system. If you're not lucky enough to guess where on the remote one of the more benign buttons is, your system will react to this button press. So you've got to undo whatever button you pressed in order to get the screen to come to life, and then hunt for the key you intended to press to begin with.
There are many such issues which - with a little thought and effort could be fixed. But somehow I doubt that these fixes are forthcoming. In addition to this, I find myself really missing the standard rubberized buttons that don't require you to look at the remote in order to get the desired function.
This is truly a tough call. It's a great concept. It's mildly frustrating to use - even when all of the buttons are working properly. I'd look for the same functionality in a less "revolutionary" design. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works with my norcent LCD 3222! Monday, August 13, 2007 A Customer from Butler PA
Had to upgrade the code for the Norcent 3222. I tried using their new email upgrade instead of the phone method. The email upgrade did not work, so I called them. It took less than 5 minutes total on the phone. Was not put on hold at all. the upgrade worked over the phone on the first try. have been using the remote for a week now and so far so good. 4 of 5 Nice, but not what I was expecting. Wednesday, August 01, 2007 Adam from Maryland
For whatever reason, I was expecting more of a touch screen device. The premise of this device is that the buttons light up and go dark based on which device you are controlling at the time. The screen seems to stick to the hidden buttons a little bit and I wonder if that will get worse over time. I think that the vibration sensor is too sensitive, but it's a neat feature.
Now with some positive things...the Kameleon is really powerful..I can pretty much aim anywhere around the room and it will control my device. It was pretty easy to find the codes that controlled my difference devices. The remote also has a very ergonomic, comfortable feel in my hand. I would buy again. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent remote Monday, July 30, 2007 Prasad from Houston, Texas
I got the first one last week and was able to set up the remote to control my receiver, dvd player, cable box controller, TV in about 30 minutes. Programmed two macro's within 15 minutes and it works great. I was able to turn off the vibration "on" feature by reading the manual.
I already ordered a 2nd one. Great product. Was this review helpful?

This is a wonderful remote. A breeze to set up, easy to use, and looks great! Also, customer service is really good too. I couldn't find codes for two pieces and they helped me with them. They first tried to send the codes to the remote, but when that didn't work (I have VOIP phone service), they sent the sound file via email. So, within an hour, I had all my equipment working, and had customized the macros exactly as I wanted them.<p>
<p>Now, for the motion sensor. I put the BIG BLOCK letters in the title so people realize that one gripe they have can be fixed, and fixed very easily. The fixes that people are talking about to disable the motion sensor are not necessary. It's like taking out a light fixture to turn off a light, when you could just flip the switch off.<p>
<p>Anyway, if you don't like the motion sensor feature, you can simply turn it off. The instructions are on page 15 of the user manual. Here's how you do it:<p>
<ol>
<li> Press and hold "Setup" until the bottom IR segments flash twice. This means you have entered setup mode.
<li> Press "Other" on the setup menu.
<li> Press 9 8 5
<li> Press "Home" twice.
</ol>
DONE!<p>
<p>This is a good remote at $100. For $30, it's a heck of a bargain. Was this review helpful?

I bought this remote in hope of getting rid of so many remotes. Didn't expect much considering the price wasn't much at all. I received it today and found it doesn't work with my TV or Home Theater. But with the learning function I was able to get it working with both. I am amazed at how easy it was to do with a bit of reading. I would recommend this remote to everybody. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Best universal remote for the money Tuesday, July 17, 2007 Lee from Rowlett, TX
This is absolutely the best use of your universal remote dollar. I've owned this remote for about 2 years now, and I love it. I bought it when they were still going for around eighty bucks, but I managed to find one on everyone's favorite online auction site for fifty-five. It was a steal then, and even more so now that it's down to forty bills!
This is especially true when you consider that other 8-device universal learning remotes can cost anywhere from $100 to $400 or more, i.e. the Harmony remotes from Logitech. Sure, they can be updated via USB and have a bigger library of codes, but is that really worth paying 5 to 10 times the price! I think not! The code library for the Kameleon is growing everyday, and for devices that don't have codes, use the learning function. It takes a few minutes, but once you've gone through the process, the kameleon can mimic any other remote you own. No, you won't find codes for C-list brands, but that's what the learning is for.
Many reviewers have mentioned that this remote eats batteries. Well, it's true. It's because of the touch-sensitive LCD. If there was a way to adjust the sensitivity, that would save batteries, but as it is I probably change them every 10 days. My recommendation is to drop $25 on a good 15-minute battery charger and a couple of sets of rechargeable AAAs. That way you won't waste money on batteries, and you're still out less cash than you would be for any competing remote.
And don't forget the cool factor! The brushed aluminum housing and glowing blue LCD display look awesome! My friends and family are always impressed when they reach for the remote while the screen is darkened, and it lights up at their touch! And when you show them that the screen actually morphs to only display the controls for the device you've selected, they really flip out!
Buy it! If you get some rechargeable batteries, you won't regret it. And you can make fun of your buddy who dropped $400 bucks on his Harmony! Was this review helpful?

I've had my Kameleon for about a week now and it has impressed me with its flexibility and extensive array of options. However, I found that the codes provided by the manufacturer were lacking in brands and product types. Specifically, I have an Olevia LCD TV and it did not have anything similar in the code bank. I also have a Sony home theater DVD/Surround system and I could not find appropriate codes for that either. Fortunately they have a phone number you can call and they will update the remote over the phone (impressive), however you will have to wait on the line quite a while.
Overall I recommend this product because I'm a gadget geek and I love the challenge of making things work. If you're not technically inclined I would not suggest this remote. Was this review helpful?

I was a little skeptical when I purchased this product that it would work with my Toshiba SD-H400 DVD/TiVo combo device. I was able to get codes for my Samsung TV and Marantz A/V reciever, but I had to go online and search for a code for the SD-H400 but was sucesfully able to customized which buttons do which function to get most of the functionality of my original remotes. It took maybe half an hour of setup to get it working, I disable the motion sensor (it's in the manual on how to do this without opening up the remote with a screwdriver) and battery life has been a non issue. If you don't have any patience then this may take a few tries to get everything correct. Customer service is top notch when you call them the log all your devices. If the remote does not suppoert your device they usually have a new download they can send you right over the phone thru the analog modem built into the remote. If no code can be found then you have the abaility to IR Learn. You can even send your remote into the company and they will create a code for you. I have two of these remotes. My batteries last 6 month on Energizers. The unit has macro buttons so you can have a master on or off switch or anything else you can think of. The home theater button is also useful. This has to be the worst remote control I have tried. Not only does it drain batteries in ONE WEEK (better be ready to spend!), but the thing will turn on the tv or change inputs on its own all the time! I will walk into the room and the tv is on and selected to an input that I don't even watch tv on. If you like having a remote with a mind of its own and will cost you an insane amount in batteries - this one is for you! Was this review helpful?

I fell for it! I saw it and had to have it. A few short days later I got the first Kameleon, put the batteries in and gave it a go. The remote worked for about 30 minutes and then died; no power, no lights no action. Hoping my luck will turn and the next remote will actually work, I sent sent it back for a replacement. A few short weeks later I received the new remote. It worked for a few weeks and it died again. All in all the idea is great, but the product is not worth the plastic its made of. I'm still waiting for my refund... Was this review helpful?

This remote works great - it was easy to set up, and easily replaced every remote I had (all 5 of them). Reprogramming individual buttons to do what you want was easy - as long as you still have the original remote.
My only complaint about this remote is the number of batteries we go through. It turns itself on whenever it is touched or moved. Leaving it sitting on the arm of the couch can leave it on for long periods of time. Every time the furnace kicked on, so does the remote. Batteries lasted approx. 2 weeks. I finally switched to rechargables. Thankfully, you don't have to reprogram it every time you switch batteries. Was this review helpful?

We have tried several remotes to get down to one for the various remotes of our electronic components.
The Kameleon WORKS!!!
We even have a digital cable box (GI) and it found all the buttons. Now you may have to search for a few features from your old remote (found changing my Pioneer receiver TV>DVD>VCR>Radio was the channel button) but ONE FOR ALL did get the programming right. The bottom line is this is one remote to replace the 8 you have sitting by the chair, or at the least give it a try. We have had ours for only two days and it is a keeper. Was this review helpful?
