I've enjoyed this netbook a lot. I compared this to Dell's mini 9 and chose the One for the better keyboard. Its great. I have noticed some apps, like Thunderbird, are slow. I think this is a result of the I/O being slow on the SSD. Other than that, it has been great.

This little netbook does everything I expected. It is very easy to use and integrates well with my other machines. A tremendous value for the money.

I have had this little netbook for a couple of weeks. I love it...got it to tote to coffee shops and travel with as my old notebook is just to heavy. It performs beautifully, and while I was reluctant to get the Linux OS, I am quite pleased, very easy to use, big icons, reminds of a Mac. The keyboard took some getting use to, but overall a great little mini, that is super fast. All my friends think it is just the coolest...and the webcam takes decent pictures and has video...great value for the price.

The little netbook is perfect for what I want. It will be ideal to travel with. It's lightweight and I can carry it in my backpack. It is tiny enough to be easy to take anywhere, yet the keyboard is easy to use and the screen is easy to read.

Great little laptop for browsing the web, checking mail and creating documents. I customized and changed the out of box Linpus interface with xfce desktop for a better look and feel. I do have some linux experience though and if you aren't comfortable with making changes keep the standard Linpus installed on this unit.I have had this unit for about a month now and am still impressed! Wireless is quick & good, sd storage is decent (although I added addional 4gb for storage) and display is great. Great price with the cc card purchase option (be sure to pay it off right away though! Nice job Acer!

This machine running linpus lite would not be right for everyone but it was exactly what I wanted for a portable device used mainly for wireless communication, ie. email, web browsing, messenger, etc. I am a linux newbie but still have found it fairly easy to tweak with help from the aspire one user group. I recommend this configuration to anyone with needs similar to mine.

I got the Linpus Linux 110 varsion and I love it. This is the lightest little thing and it can do everything I want. I have an HP laptop that I had been using for travel/portable operations, but this runs rings around it. As an example, the wireless connection picks up WAPs that my HP could never even see and my home wireless connection is finally what I always thought it should be. I'm sure that the AA1 is just fine out of the box and I'm not one to really hack things up, but everyone that owns one of these MUST know about www.aspireoneuser.com and macles.blogspot.com. Thay are the best sites for advice and support. I'm not a Linux wizard so they're a real help. Acer hit a home run with this one.

This little thing is so tiny and light, you can bring it anywhere comfortably. It is a little slow for some tasks, eg. skype will peg the CPU at 60-70% usage, but works fine otherwise. I'm very familiar with Linux already, but I think beginners would enjoy the simplicity of this Linpus interface. People who are set in their Windows ways may have difficulties though. In that case go get the One w/ XP. Gripes: I wish it had Bluetooth, oh well, use a tiny usb dongle. The mouse buttons are goofy, but you don't need them, since you can tap the pad instead. The bright, sharp, but small screen can be limiting for long periods of time, so I use a 22" LCD at home. Overall, it's exactly what I've been waiting years for. A tiny Linux machine with most of the latest & greatest that just plain works!

Purchased the Acer Aspire as a portable main computer for my wife who is not a techie. This low cost machine with Linpus has met all her needs. The display is crisp, the unit is super light weight and the installed software (all new to this user) was so easy to use that she does not miss XP. This computer for the cost and its capabilities has exceeded our expectations. Good mobile machine.

The Acer Aspire One is a very capable little netbook. As a matter of fact, I am writing this review on it! I am not going to bore you on the specs, you can read those at a thousand different pages. I am just going to highlight a few things that surprised me about this laptop. First, the web browser works great. It is Firefox 2, but it gets the job done. F11 puts you in screen maximization mode and is very usable. Hulu and Youtube videos play smooth at native resolutions, but if you try to full screen it you will lose the frame rate. Second, the touch pad actually works quite well. If you can reteach yourself to quick tap instead of click you will do fine. I am already navigating with it no problem. I hardly ever use the mouse keys though, because they are horrible. Speaking of horrible, the media browsers included are nasty. They are slow, and still have a interface that looks just out of DOS. Luckily, better media players are pretty easy to download using the advanced mode of Linpus. Speaking of Linpus, this Linux distrubution isn't for everyone. If you want to use your netbook as a full media center computer avoid the linux version like a plague. If you want to do a lot of heavy photo-editing, video-editing, gaming, or anything high powered the 512mb won't be able to keep up and the OS will only give problems. With that said, this netbook excels at what it is made to do, web surf and do office work fast. It boots in under 20 second, ready for net browsing at around 35, and opening documents in about 30. I bought this book for school and work, and I am getting the feeling that it is going to do a great job. The work tab has the 3 programs I will need, word, excel, and power point (open source version of course). It also has a clean calender application, which is great for setting homework and study schedules. Suprisingly, I have been able to find some decent games for free for this netbook. One Quake 3 clone ran surprisingly well at up to 45fps. I have one warning for potential buyers of this netbook. You will most likely experience trouble if you are trying to connect to an encrypted/hidden cisco network (such as the network at my college). The only Linux drivers for such systems are not supported by Linpus Lite. This is a solid all around netbook and I am sure you will enjoy it, as long as you are buying it as a secondary notebook for school and travel. It you are looking for a full OS, buy the XP version. It is slower, but much more flexible. Just be ready to spring for the extra spyware protection you will need. ps. pick up an 8 or 16gb sdhc card for storage expansion, you will be glad you did.

IMHO, the Acer Aspire One (Linux) is the best value for the money of ALL the UMPC's. The GUI desktop is all that anyone would need for normal internet and written communication. If you are not familiar with Linux command line procedures, installing new programs, and customizing the GUI can be a problem. Or it can be a learning experience. There are many AAO user groups on the net. Even though there is a built in Video Cam and Mic. AAO does not have "Skype" or other tele-video program on board. You will have to download and install it in Linux. Be sure your peripherals are have Linux drivers & software.

I'm writing my review from the Aspire One and I'd recommend it to anybody. The machine is well capable of running loads of software and is highly customizable if you're feeling adventurous. Do some reading at aspireoneuser.com to see if it will do what you want. I caught the netbook bug when I bought an OLPC last year but it was sluggish. This book has a lot of pep to spare and even with the included firefox browser you could still do many things if you didn't want to install additional software. For example, you could do your email through yahoo/gmail/msn, chat through meebo, etc.
