TomTom ONE XL-S Portable GPS System w/ Text To Speech - Refurbished - 1S00.086 - Refurbished

I originally bought this a year ago for a week trip to LA, CA and was it a life saver. I couldn't have enjoyed my drives without it. The night before, I entered a bunch of Favorites into the unit such as tourist spots, restaurants, my hotel, landmarks, etc. During my vacation, the unit was accurate and navigated me to all the places I intended to go without any issues. After the trip, I returned the unit and waited a couple of months and got this great price for nearly 2/3 of the original price I paid from a B&M store. I'm really happy with the unit and the great deal I got from Buy.com. Cons: Short battery life, bluetooth doesn't work with my G1, gets confused where interstates meet with a lot of on/off ramps.

I'm very pleased with the unit! It has done everything as advertised, however it has a couple of quirks..In one particular area on my way to Boston it wants to send me on the same (dead end) road in a rural neighborhood each and every time. When you get to the end of that road it tells you to turn around and takes you back to where you turned and sends you down the road you were on. I have also asked to recalculate the route because I knew a faster, shorter route but it would not recalculate the route until I was 15 miles up the road. It is still worth it!!

Product works ok so far. Took it on first long road trip 4 hrs to mountains of New Hampshire and it chose a different route on the way up than it did on the way down the second route was much longer.

Very easy to use. User friendly. The only bad thing is that the bluetooth doesn't work with my Verizon phone, or any Verizon phones.

I had been watching prices on GPS units for several months, and jumped on this offer because of price. This unit has all the features, including spoken street names,that I wanted at half the price I would have had to pay to get them. Product arrived in what appeared to be new condition, with a full year warranty. Easy to use right out of the box, and very accurate mapping.

Got a great deal on this GPS. Have been watching for several months before finding the deal I wanted. This product was everything and more than I wanted for my price range. It works as advertised, is easy to use, and is even fun to use. The few negatives - the calculated arrival time is not very accurate (my wife has a Tom Tom One 3rd Edition which is even worse), and there is not a good description on the features and options on the product, and the BlueTooth does not support my version of Blackberry cell phone (8100T) - all minor annoyances. Overall a great product at an awesome price.

This was a great price for a device that supports text to speech so I ordered one up. Decent delivery time. Had it up and running quickly. Been using it for a few months and its only got me in the wrong place once. Road had been removed. Wanted one with text to speech, but the only one's I could find were really expensive and had a bunch of additional features I will never use. This one fit the bill just perfect, and I got it at a great price.

i was under the impression that TOMTOM latest map guarantee is good for refurb. items too . but its not the case. they need a latest map guarantee coupon to update the latest map for free ,which we wont get with refurb.now i have a refurbished GPS with old map for $129. there is $30 rebate , i am not sure how is that going to go. i should have bought a new one xl with latest map for the same price , ofcourse there is no text-to-speach. overall there is no flaw in the porduct , works fine, looks new and everthing. except for the map , a gud product.

Go figure. I order an XL-S for the text to speech option and they send me just the XL model. No text to speech. The box was XL-S, the documentation is XL-S, but when I went to add a "computer voice" that will do the text to speech it tells me my product does not support it. What a rip. It is still a good GPS for what I will have paid after the rebate but I am done with buy.com. I am just going to suck it up. I guess I could get the ball rolling on getting it replaced with the right product but who needs the hassle.

Have only used the GPS for a few days but I love it. It is a fantastic value and is very easy to use! I love how you can get free map updates through the Tom Tom community. The GPS comes with everything you need except a carrying case and a normal plug into the wall recharger. I recommend you buy a protective carrying case immediately but so far I do not need the plug into the wall recharger. The USB recharger that plugs into your computer is just fine. I am very, very happy I bought this refurbished model instead of a new Garmin for the same price. Plus, the $30 rebate is just gravy! :-)

Great unit for the money.I used a Garman street pilot and didn't like it. It didn't take me in the best possable route awalys having to recalculate . I got tired of hearing that word RECALCULATING. I used the tom tom one xls and after I set my home address, away we went. Not one problem. I liked to so much that I bought a second one for our other car. You can't go wrong with a Tom Tom. Living out in the country and having to drive hours to get to a city it sure is helping us. Just enter our destination and follow the directions, it's that easy.

I bought this product as a Christmas gift for my husband. We have never owned a GPS before, so we have no basis for comparison, but we are nevertheless very pleased with it. I was looking particularly for one with a larger screen that could be viewed easily while driving and also one with verbal instructions when a change of direction is coming up. This fit the bill on both counts and was less expensive than many others I compared it to. It is easy to program which we were pleased with and we've found that if you change course while you are driving, it will compensate by coming up with a new route to get you to your destination.

This GPS is very easy to use right out of the box. This was a present for my wife who went through the setup and began to use without having to read the owners manual. This refurbished product is just like new.

Worked right out of the box and the refurbished price seems a good value. Careful when first powering up not to accidentally select a foriegn language. When I went to update sw on the computer at Tom Tom Home site my unit did not have the memory required to take the download. I assume I need to get the 2G card although the user instructions are not clear on that. all in all a nice unit.

I bought this device after being a long time Garmin user. While it was an improvement in screen size and input method (qwerty keyboard), I was disappointed. When being on a highway Garmin would say "continue 15 miles". This one said "Keep left" every 0.5 mile for every possible exit while it was a straight road. I contacted Tomtom support, which gave me answers related to a different device (and the rep I subsequently called on the phone confirmed the first rep made a mistake over email). There was no way to change this highly annoying setting. I returned the device and BUY.COM made it right by offering a refund. I ordered a new Garmin GPS from them (can't go wrong, I know it won't tell me not to exit for every possible exit!). Bad device, but good service from BUY.COM.

This gadget is nice! My job requires me to run around cities which I have no idea of how to get from point A to point B. I highly recommend it plus for the price you cant go wrong! I use it atleast four to six hours a day. I think its accurate enough! other people say its not accurate but you have to give it credit only thing I've noticed was it would say "arrived at destination" and it was one house over from the address I punched in for destination! I give it a 100% this thing paid it self of and can admit one great investment avoided a bunch of headachs!!!

This unit is so easy to use and works very well. I am very satisfied with my TomTom. I drove from Louisiana to Pennsylvania with no problem. It told me which way to go and was very accurate. I love it! Large screen, spoken street names and great price.

The refurb package did come with all the accessories (adaptor, mount...). Connect the device to computer via USB and install the TOMTOM Home software (not delivered in CD but in the device itself). Once the online account is setup, you can start the updates (maps, additional POIs, voices, startup and close images...). The internal memory is only 1GB so the download is very limited. Have to use the SD slot with a 2GB SD card. This XLS model only uses internal memory ‘or’ external SD (one or the other - not both). To transfer the content to the new SD, I first run a backup to PC from the TOMTOM Home and then copy the backup content to the new SD – reboot and the device will load from the SD.

I bought this product for my wife and the next day after it arrived we took it for a weekend long test drive. We found that most of the POIs (Points of Interest) were Accurately updated and easy to find (even off the wall places I have never heard of before). I did find some POIs missing, but with the edit map feature you can add new POIs and are also able to share them with other TOM TOM users throughout the USA.

Have not used yet, but have set both up. Waiting for Christmas to use mine and to give the other one to my daughter. They are refurbished, but look like I bought from the store. I love everything I buy from Buy.com. The price was awesome.

I've been pleased with this GPS, it was low price for what you get, and is very user friendly. The only draw back for me is that at this time anyhow you can not update the xl-s with IQ routes which would be nice. However I was not lead to believe that I could. A friend of mine has a Garmin, which is decent, but I can tell you that whenever we are together she wants to use the TomTom. Not only are the maps a little better, but she likes the extras more. I give it a 5, except overall just because of the lack of IQ routing that comes with the newer units. Really it deserves a 5 all around.

After seeing one of these I had to have one. I purchased this one at a great price. It came on time and works great. I only have one problem. It comes with a one year warranty but when I tried to take advantage of the one time "free" update on the maps I got a message saying it had already been done. This product was refurbished so I guess that is what has happened. I was able to download user updates for free. I guess if it looks too good to be true it just is. I did not expect to get the updates for free so I am not really disappointed too much. I would still recommend people buy refurbished since the price is so much better.

This unit comes with TomTom's "latest map guarantee" where you are allowed to download the most up-to-date map for your device within 30 days of purchase. Sounds good but be careful trying to use it. The map which arrived on my unit was very out of date but the TomTom HOME application wouldn't let me update it. It said my "latest map" option had expired even though I only owned the device a total of 3 days! Ever since, I have been left struggling to try and get someone at TomTom technical support to help me. They have given me a -huge- run-around. At their request, I have provided copies of all my receipts, screenshots of various things, and even a technical dump of the configuration. Still no resolution from TomTom. Instead of fixing this, they keep sending me down other paths to collect more data for them. To what end? *Buyer beware!* I'm just lucky that my problem isn't more serious. If you want good support, avoid TomTom. I am NOT impressed.

The unit arrived intact, all parts and manuals complete and looks like it had never been touched, which surprised me because it is a refurb. Here's 2 problems that I've had with this unit: since it's a refurb, your Latest Map Guarantee might show up as 'expired' in TomTom Home, so you have to call customer service and fax/email them a proof of purchase and they will load a new map for you to download. Secondly and most importantly, there is an issue with the computer voices (which must be used for text to speech) They stutter/cut in and out so bad you can't understand the directions. Make sure you Google that problem and read up before deciding to buy it, it makes the TTS useless. It looks like some sort of bug that TomTom has been denying exists. Maybe they'll fix it someday???

VERY EASY TO STARTUP AND USE. GOOD SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS. EASY TO SEE EXCEPT WHEN THE SUN IS SHINING DIRECTLY ON IT. IF YOU TAKE A SHORTCUT YOU KNOW INSTEAD OF A ROAD YOU ARE TOLD TO TURN ON, IT QUICKLY RE-ROUTES THE REST OF THE TRIP. IF YOU START IT IN A PARKING LOT INSTEAD OF A STREET, IT MAY TELL YOU TO TURN THE WRONG WAY OUT OF THE PARKING LOT BUT WILL RE-ROUTE YOU AFTER THE WRONG TURN. THE VOICES ARE CLEAR AND LOUD ENOUGH. I AM USING MINE IN DIFFERENT CARS SO I PUT SELF STICK VELCRO ON THE DASH BOARDS AND THE BACK OF THE UNIT INSTEAD OF THE WINDSHIELD MOUNT IT CAME WITH. I HAVE BEEN USING IT FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS.

I got 2 of those, both refurbished. One for me, one as a gift. Had to return the first one because the text-to-speech was not working (I think they had put an XL instead of XL-S in the box). But they sent me another unit which works great. Acquires satellites in about 30 seconds, recalculates routes nicely if you make a mistake, text-to speech is nice too. A few comments: 1) wish the battery life was longer than 2 hours (not a problem for use in a car); 2) the Bluetooth feature works only with selected phones (not with my blackberry pearl) so hands free calls or traffic updates are not possible unless you have the right cell phone

Works well. My first GPS. Touch screen can be annoying(as any of them can). Did not come w/detailed instructions. Not difficult to figure out but I like to read about all the features before I get started. Detailed manual can be downloaded for free...need to have high speed or a lot of time. Must use a computer generated voice for text to speech. Go to change preferences 3rd page select "Change Voice". Then select "SUSAN" this will enable "text to speech" or spoken street names. Other voices will say just "turn left 500 ft. ahead" Accesories are good (charger,usb hook-up, window suction cup) all work well. Map is clear and easy to read.

This was my wife's biggest surprise. For twenty years she has always told me to not worry about big stuff for her. This year, no matter what she said, I was getting her something she could use that was real nice. This unit did the trick. The cost is perfect and the functions are outstanding. The map share function allows you to stay updated on maps all the time. She is in no way a techno person but quickly started operating this unit. I liked it so much, I secretly bought myself one also. The screen is perfect size and the night day function is a great tool. The mount seems to mount very solid against my windshield. The speech is very clear and I love the real time speed function. It tells you in real time how fast your going. This thing has so many functions I can't begin to mention all of them. I haven't found a bad thing about it. If I had to mention one thing could use improvements it would be the search function for points of interest. The function works good but could use some real time updates to help locate shopping and other points of interest. We live in an area that is growing and new things are being built all the time. The unit has only one way to locate them. You drive there and tell the system it there. The work around it to look up the address on the internet and enter it directly as an address to address. Not really a big deal but my suggestion for improvements and updates. If you looking for a great Christmas present at a great cost, this is it.

The only things missing from this product are: 1-A good manual 2-A way to plug in several locations where you need to stop at, and have it optimize the rout and show you where you need to go in the most efficient manner. Also, I've been unable to use the bluetooth feature for my phone and can not figure out why. I guess I should call Tom Tom. With that said, all else is great. It's very accurate, some street names are misspelled but not a big deal. Some fun features too. Overall, I'm very happy.

It is easy to use... If you miss the turn, it will guide you to reach destination with alternate route. But it could not find my house (which is located in a new housing community).

I have an older Tom Tom ONE so added this XL-S for larger screen and text to speech. I've used Earthmate and other PocketPC GPS products and have been happier with Tom Tom GPS speed and accuracy. Haven't used Garmin -- reviews indicate they are also good. I like the larger screen and spoken street names of the XL-S.

Best deal for me in a long time. Got this GPS refurbished and couldn't ask for a better experience. The text to speech works great. Wish there were more computer-generated voices to choose from pre-loaded. The first trip I used it for was about 40 miles away and it was perfect. Very accurate. Be sure to download the latest software and the first map update is free. Don't have a bluetooth phone, so haven't tried those options yet, but am looking forward to it.

This is my first portable GPS system. I have had the one that hooks into a laptop and that has helped me all along in fact that is better than all of these as it has the 17' display. The only down side is that you need to have a navigator for using the laptop kind. Now that I am single and travelling more, this unit has been a boon. I have used it for 5-6 trips already and it has not let me down. It actually has better co-ordinates than Megellin, as I saw magellin work on the same route as this one. I am ver happy and Buy.com delivered it the next day FREE Shipping, even though the website says 8-10 business days for Free shipping

I recently had my TomTom One, 3rd ed stolen (after theives also broke the side window), and have been happy with the new features one the XL-S version. The refurbished unit is working perfectly.

I have used / borrowed an older Tom Tom Go and a Magellan. I wanted to buy the Tom Tom One. I found it for $150 new online. Then I saw the Tom Tom One XL-S for $150 - same price, but refurbished. Awesome deal. I thought the "S" for speech meant you can talk to it (like those old Tom Tom commercials on TV when they first came out), but that was my own error - The T means "Text-to-Speech" NOT "Speech-to-Text". So, it doesn't listen to you, it talks to you more. It sounds superficial, but it's actually quite useful. It will say "bare right onto Interstate 95 Southbound towards Philadelphia" instead of just "bare right in 200 yards" which is GREAT for some of the more confusing roadways in my area. And the greatest feature of all is being able to connect it to the computer and download all of the Home Depot's and Lowe's using the easy-to-use (and FREE) software that it comes with. This is huge for me as I am a contractor. It paid for itself within 3 days of having it, by allowing me to leave a job for lunch, run to another job, and find a Home Depot along the way. And it got me back and even found a fast food joint on the way for me. Unbelieveable. Super Easy to Use. I love it. I have not opted to use any of the traffic or other subscription services at this time. The only thing I was unhappy about was that Buy.com listed a 2GB SD card as an "essential" to have with this device. I have no idea what that provides because when I put it in, the device tells me to take it out. So, it's unnecessary, at least as far as I can tell at this point.

I love my TomTom. It uses simple graphics and language and I like that. The easier; the better. I have used Garmin and Magellan which are both great items. But the selling point for me was the price of the TomTom. I had difficulty at first with learning to use the different functions and the maps were slightly out dated. But then I read the instructions and was able to go online and download the latest maps for free. A USB cable was included with the package. However, now that I have used it several times, it has become much easier.

Like the ease of use and of course the price, but the arrival times are off by 30% and the routes take all the back roads, none that I would actually travel on. I contacted Tom Tom and did all their suggestions, but the results were the same. I have another week to decide on whether to send it back. I had a Garmin before, but wanted text to speech, so I bought this one. The Garmin was to the minute on arrival times and picked routes that a normal person would.

Not having purchased a GPS unit before, I didn't know what to expect. I was happily surprised at how easy the TomTom unit was to use and how many features it had. A quick connection to my PC brought all the maps up to date. We used it recently on a trip to New Jersey and it helped us easily get through Philadelphia traffic and also find the nearest Dunkin' Donuts. Text to Speech was very helpful (though it pronounced some words like Toledo incorrectly). I would highly recommend this GPS.

To be fair with the revue it should be rated 4.5,it did not receive the full 5 * cause:the menu(easy to use)lack a back to the previous page ,and the computer street announcement is not as clear as it should. Map is ok,but several shopping center in my area(6 and 7 yrs old)are not on it? street address also misses by 100to 200 yrds(this is a problem with many maps on other brands. Notes:map upgrade downloadable when available also many other icons and voices and screens for free I did not use the blue tooth so I cant comment Found the SD slot useless Still it is one of the best navigator in this category and price and Ido recomend buying

This TomTom GPS is even cooler than I thought. The touch screen is really easy to use. I live in a very rural area and this thing even see's the gravel roads. I could not tell that it was refurbished. I upgraded the software with no issues, but plan on spending a couple of hours upgrading. Yes, the voice sometimes misses the street names but I usually can figure it out. It sometimes makes you laugh. One good thing about this unit is that it does not keep repeating over and over "Recalculating Route" when you do not follow its recommended route. It just does it and within 4 or 5 seconds you have a new route. I purchased a 4 gb HC sd card to use with this unit but I cannot get it to see it. I even tried a couple of 2 gb cards from my camera, with no luck. Not that I really need the extra memory. The unit has a map of the entire USA, and that's all I need. An email to TomTom support went unanswered. This unit makes you want to turn down roads you have never traveled, just to see where they go. My wife keeps looking at me wondering where I am going. Only TomTom knows! Had I known how much I would love this thing, I would have purchased it sooner. The price I paid (150.00) is hard to pass up. Get one of these!

After returning two garmin GPSs, I finally keep the TomTom One XL-S. The reason for returning the garmin product was the satellite signal was VERY bad. I took a field trip for about one hour drive, even after I arrive the destination, it still can not find the satellite signal, same story happened when I driven back home. Think about when you get lost and you have this garmin gps on hand, you will need your cell phone to get help, no from garmin product. All my friend use TomTom and they pretty much have the same story to tell you. Sorry for garmin product and I hope they can make the product useful, no pretty.
