I purchased this in order to make small video files for email. Our kitchen laptop from HP has a built in webcam with software that is much more intuitive and incorporates little goodies like overlayable "exclamations". It also has more explanatory settings that allow for creation of small file sizes. This software does have a number of different codecs but my first surprise was using the one that says, "Good for email" created a file over 100 megabytes for about a minute of video.
I'm sure there are other software packages that could be adapted that might be more intuitive. This has no impact on the usability of the product for video conferencing for which it should be fine. I'd also like the option to record only audio but this seems to be missing. It is usable by Windows sound recorder however. Was this review helpful?

This cam is really really good. You definitely will be satisfied with the quality of the picture. You have the option to attach this camera anywhere you like, and then edit your picture quality: brightness, contrast, gamma, color saturation, sharpness, exposure, color enable, backlight compensation, low light, and you can either turn the LED lights On or Auto. You can also take still pictures with it, and record videos. The options are: Single shot, Video Capture, Self-timer shot, and Multi burst mode shot. The built is microphone in it also transfers clear and concise sounds. Last but not least, it's portable and you can take it anywhere you like. All in all, this is a GREAT buy!!! I ordered with 7-9 business shipping, got it 2 days later. Excellent quality, kinda bright LED lights, but at least they can be turned off on the go (well sorta). The resolution is very nice, and driver setup was super-vista-easy. Although the headset is crap, you don't need it because the camera has a quality mic. Auto contrast and other settings are all adjustable and auto-correct very nicely. I recommend for anyone who doesn't was some crazy deluxe web cam, but wants one worth buying. All things about this web cam are good except for the head set. This head set is for only the right ear. For me i have only one working ear the left. The head set can not be rotated to work in the left ear as it does in the right. Fix this problem snf all would be perfect. I need the mic/head set since my pc has no speakers. This web cam works well with Google's Gmail video chat. The integrated microphone works fine - no need to use the headset. The face-tracking is impressive (it zooms in and tracks your face as you move about, within the camera's field of view). Plan on buying a 2nd. Was this review helpful?

Well this item was very easy to setup. It has a very good picture, much better than any than I've had before. The wizard is excellant as well. performs well under lower light and the LED's can be turned on to provide good illumination. Worked perfectly straight out of the box and configured with Skype, piece of cake. The resolution is good (not great though) and the LEDs seem to help provide extra lighting. Not too many features available but that's okay - all i wanted was a budget cam for video chats. Came with a headset too. Highly recommended! Was this review helpful?

I have owned 3 different cams, Logitech 9000, Philips Webcam SPC890N and now the Hercules Deluxe Optical Glass Web camera. You can not get a better cam for the money as the Hercules!! The Picture is crisp and clear and the frame rate is a true 30fps on Skype. If you are looking to buy your first cam or wanted to upgrade your current one, You need to purchase the Hercules.
