5 of 5 Continually Impressed Saturday, June 20, 2009
A Customer from Atlanta, GA

I bought this scanner because my mom wanted to digitize our family albums which span over a hundred years. I'd scanned in 300 photos before I discovered that I was doing it the hard way. I didn't have the document mat in place and what I would do is scan 3 or 4 photos at a time and then open it up in photoshop elements and manually crop each one. Well with the document mat properly in place and using the software that came with it I was able to have it auto crop my photos. I also discovered the color restoration feature which is awesome. My scans now look better than the photos they were scanned from. I'm busy now re-scanning those photos and I'm just flying through them. Had I know this earlier it would have taken me half the time.

5 of 5 AWESOME SCANNER Wednesday, May 20, 2009
Carolyn Knight from Meridian, ID
This is an awesome scanner. I bought it for photos, negatives, & slides, which it scans beautifully. But it is also an excellent OCR scanner. Was even able to scan recipes photocopied from a magazine. Best scanner I've ever used!

5 of 5 AMAZING PERFORMANCE Sunday, January 04, 2009
Greg Carroll from Fort Worth, TX
For years I have used a HP Scanjet 5370C to convert many of my thousands of slides, negatives and even old prints from my grandparents into digital images. Hallmark of this scanner is that it is excruciatingly SLOW and cumbersome, dutifully and authentically reproducing every minute dust particle on the surface or embedded in the emulsion. Enter the V500. RATS! Now I have to go back and rescan all those HP scans because the ICE removed every single scratch and dust particle! Simply AMAZING quality. The V500 is fast and you can walk away from it while it converts 2 filmstrips of 6 negs or transparencies into separate files. Not only does it handle the 35mm format, but 6 x 4.5, 6 x 6, 6 x 7 and larger. WOW!

5 of 5 Excellent Scanner Great Value Thursday, December 25, 2008
A Customer from Trumbull, CT
I just bought the epson v500 and it was one of the best purchases I've made. The quality is phenomenal. The best thing is being able to bring old faded pictures back to life. This scanner is a necesity for everyone.

5 of 5 Best I've Used Monday, August 25, 2008
A Customer from Newport News VA
Can't add much to the other reviews. All they say is absolutely correct. I just got rid of another high end scanner hoping that the Epson would be better. It's the best.

5 of 5 Great Scanner Wednesday, April 09, 2008
Rodney from Austin, TX
I bought the V500 to replace my old Epson 640U and I couldn't be happier. My wife and I had some old photos that needed to be scanned and the V500 performed superbly. The image correction features in the software did such a good job at fixing the photos, I hardly needed to do any work in Photoshop. I definitely recommend this product.

5 of 5 Good for Slides, Film and Photos Monday, February 11, 2008
A Customer from Fredericksburg, Texas
Pro - -Great resolution, very good for film and slides. -Very good, versatile stable utility, allows lots of options for odd sized film -Low energy use, quick startup -ICE really works and works well Con - -Ships with Photoshop 4.0, not Vista compatible (though I've yet to run into any issues with it) -Some minor noise at very high resolution using ICE, though this may be on the slide because it doesn't always occur. Anyway you can edit it out with Photoshop. -Scanning film at high resolution is a slow process, though some other dedicates film scanners may do it faster? -If you are primary scanning documents, not photos or film, get a cheaper scanner. Other thoughts - -I've had this scanner for several months, and the more I use it, the better I like it. -I'm using an E6550 processor with 4 GB RAM, Vista platform. Scanning requires lots of memory, would recommend 2 GB minimum. -If you don't have sufficient memory your system will become unstable and you will not have a good experience. -My previous scanner was an HP 4070. This was a good replacement and, because of its resolution and features, does a much better job than the older HP, which was a good scanner. It is amazing how much better scanners have become in the last several years. -Would be interesting to compare this scanner to the Canon 8800F. The main selling point for the Epson is ICE, which corrects scratches digitally during the scan process, not as an editing process after capture, and as I said it works. The Canon might have something similar? -As with most tech things, there will be something better tomorrow and this unit may be cheaper at some point in the future. Buy.com is an excellent place to do business with.

5 of 5 Love it so far Monday, January 28, 2008
Joe from Madison, Miss.
Just what I was looking for. Installed easily on my Vista machine (haven't tried it on my MacBook yet) and had it up and running in no time. Reflective scans have been fast and very satisfactory - 35mm neg and slide scans have been good - with some tweaking in the acquire software - although contrasty chromes push its capabilities a bit. That was expected. A flat-bed at this price isn't going to perform miracles, but I'm very pleased with the performance thus far. The film strip holder is a little tedious to deal with, but in my experience ALL film strip holders are tedious. Recommended.

5 of 5 a good way to preserve images from old slides Tuesday, December 11, 2007
A Customer from Durham, NC
The Epson V500 photo scanner is very easy to use producing fine results. To optimize slides that are up to 40 years old takes time, so one must be patient. If you have about 7000 slides to convert to digital format, as I have, will take a long, long time, but the results are worth the effort.

4 of 5 Mixed Sunday, December 09, 2007
Steve from Portsmouth, NH
This scanner does a good job on slides, but it only will do 4 at a time, which is too few per scan when you have hundreds to do. The slide holder needs to be positioned just right and care needs to be taken when lowering the scanner top because it has to be forced past the 2 preset positions, which can make the holder move. When setting up the scanner for the first time, it's a bit awkward to get the scanner top power cord into the base - it feels like you might be bending the pins because of the force needed. Once it was all set up and I had done some tests, it seems to be a very capable unit. I liked it enough to get a second one for a client. I needed it right away so I went to a local retailer, purchased the unit and set it up at the clients office. After we were all set up and did a few scans, I noticed there was an object stuck to the underside of the glass, bigger than a speck, and required returning the unit for a replacement. Having gone through 2 setups, I know what to look out for, and would reccommend it.

5 of 5 Very satisfied Friday, December 07, 2007
garysielaff from N Las Vegas, NV
Scanner was up and running minutes out of the box. Very easy set-up. Bought mainly for scanning my slide collection. Simple to do. Scans 4 slides at a time. may take a couple minutes to do this task. If like me you have 100's of slide to do just set up next to the tv and scan while watching (multi-task).

5 of 5 Good for Photos Sunday, December 02, 2007
Gene Tuck from Sanger, Texas
Quick shipping. Great price! Make sure the scanner power is turned off before plugging in or unplugging the cord from the lid, otherwise it causes problems like no film scanning available. A printed operating manual would be nice, instead of having to search for instructions in the help file.
