    3 of 5 NAV 720 Saturday, June 07, 2008
    Mack from Vicksburg, MS

Battery life is about 5 minutes with or with out navigation running. Inconsistent on acquiring satellite signal. Sometime it locks on satellite immediately and other times it takes 20-30 minutes. This is not reliable. Once it locks on it works great. Seems very accurate. Bluetooth works great. You can return to navigation while using bluetooth. Haven't tried the media functions yet.

    1 of 5 buyer beware! Monday, May 26, 2008
    A Customer from LA, CA
My garmin gps was stolen so I didn't want to spend another $300-$400 on the new gps. Bought this unit based purely on its low low price. And boy do I regret it. Here is a list of the problems: 1. battery is good for 10 minutes max. 2. points of interest is severely lacking (no hotels, post office, etc.) 3. doesn't turn off by itself when you turn off the car engine. (it has that auto-off function but doesn't work)

It takes too long to acquire Satellite signal, however when it does works well. Tried the bluetooth feature, and it worked well with my Samsung phone, however when using bluetooth map is not visible, also lost satellite signal when working bluetooth.

1 of 5 You get what you paid for... Thursday, May 01, 2008
A Customer from Central New Mexico
I ordered the NAV720 on 3/16/2008 and received it on 3/20/2008. I was so excited about the NAV720 for its feature and cheap price . After I opened the unit and charged it up , I went through the setup procedure then went to “Go To tab” to enter destination address and started driving BUT nothing happen, it would not give me any direction. I drove back home and started troubleshooting. I looked up satellite signal strength and it would not detect satellite. The satellite dish icon showed red. According to the NAV720 manual page 30 “4.3.7 GPS Position quality (No. 8) if dish color is red then there is connection but the signal is too weak to give a position, GPS navigation is not possible " . I called customer service and went thru typical procedure, “Does it fully charge? Is device powered on"? And finally rebooted NAV720 twice and stood in my front yard, back yard and walked on street across form my house and still would not detect a signal. I was told by customer service that I need to send in unit for repair because it is defective. I sent the unit in for repair and they sent me a new, tested unit and still had same problem: it would not detect signal. I drove around my friend 's house, at the park, and at work. No matter what I did it but it would not detect a signal. I talked to customer service and again went thru the reboot procedure, and then they asked me what type of vehicle I have and where did I mount device. (Like that was a problem). I was told maybe my house is in a dead spot. I had enough with this NAV720 and I ask for a refund and V7 said I need to contact buy.com for a refund. I already emailed buy.com and they said NAV720 has special return policy and I need to contact the manufacturer . I talked to V7 customer support manager and supervisor and they told me V7 does not give refund for any products: they will repair or replace the unit. They will send me another NAV720, 3rd time, and if that does not work then they will give me an upgraded unit. It has been 2 weeks and I haven’t got my 3rd replacement unit. I talked to RMA department and they are out of stock for NAV720.

    4 of 5 Nav 720 Wednesday, April 16, 2008
    Doug from Philadelphia
When I first got it, it's appearance and all of the extra stuff that it came with impressed me. However, even after loading the Maps off of the software, it took awhile to figure out how to navigate it. A manual is provided on the software, but it comes to about 140 pages or more after you fininsh printing everything out. The games are nice, cool graphices for a GPS device. The Bluetooth function is a little weak. It doesn't maintain a steady signal between my cell and the device at times. I found that I had to remove all of the other paired devices off of my cell just to pair up the NAV720. And it also helps to turn off my cell and the NAV and turn it back on again in order for the NAV to pair up again with my Cell. I would also like for the Points of Interest to be a little more useful, like finding the nearest Hotels, etc. Helping me find the nearest cemetarys is not useful to me. You'll probubly have to program most of your favorite POI's in. Overall it's a good Device for the graphics and all the other cool functions, but spend time reading the manual to get the most use out of the NAV.

I found this gps to be little complicated ,it is not as user friendly like other Gps in the market, but still it some good feature ,like Bluetooth ,direction by street names etc.... the bad thing about it is the POI Point of intrest it dose not have good database on that. if they send a update on POI that will make a huge diff.

    2 of 5 Battery issues Wednesday, April 09, 2008

If the unit is being used for gps it will sometimes power off due to battery low indicator even after a full charge. The smart power save feature doesn"t function. Wish this wasn"t a keeper.

    3 of 5 Inconsistent Wednesday, April 09, 2008
    A Customer from LA, California
Inconsistent acquisition of GPS signals. Sometimes is locks on in a minute or two. Often it can take 10-15 minutes to figure out where it is. Fonts are too small and can't be adjusted (as far as I know) Hard to read street names unless it's in your face. Software needs refinement. Difficult and convoluted to do a simple thing like storing a favorite. Premium maps for free is a plus. Built in games and calculator are nice. Video player is a nice feature but is a little too picky about formats. Won't play an MP4's audio if it's stereo but will if it's divx. Won't play MP4's video if it's H264. Give me a break ! All in all I can use it but I'm worried it will let me down when I'm in a hurry get across town and it can't figure out where it is. It's unreturnable or I would send it back and spend more to get something more dependable and refined.

    1 of 5 Frequent Weak/Lost Signal Sunday, April 06, 2008
    A Customer from Rosemead, CA
I do not recommend anyone to buy this system. Every time I leave from home, I have to mess around with it to get the signal. Otherwise, I do not get the signal the entire trip. Even with the intervention, it still takes too long to lock the signal. Battery power drains extremely quick and signal looses frequently even on wide-open roads.

The lithium battery is undersized for this unit. It will shutdown when taxing the gps. The smart power save function doesn't work. The unit works well with ac or car battery.

    1 of 5 Cannot get a signal Friday, April 04, 2008
    H. Mak from Castro Valley, CA
The antenna to this device seems to be quite weak. It has a very difficult time getting a signal. Sometimes, I would have it turned on during my whole trip of 30 mins and it would still not get a signal. When it does get a signal, any slight obstruction to the sky will cause the signal to be lost. This does not happen with my Mio or TomTom. Bluetooth also doesn't work very well. It does connect if I want to dial a number through it, but if I am looking at a POI and press the "dial" button there to dial to the business, then it would not work at all. I really want to like this unit, as the feature set is great, especially being able to download the map with 11 million POI's from their support website (which is down at the moment). However, if it can't do the most basic thing well, like get a satellite signal, then it is completely worthless. And like another reviewer mentioned, there is no return allowed for this product on Buy.com, so beware!

    2 of 5 Disappointed! Wednesday, April 02, 2008
A Customer from Costa Mesa, CA
When you first see the features on this unit and it's respective price, you say to yourself, "How can I go wrong?". Well let me tell you. First of all, the V7 doesn't hold a charge past 10 minutes when you have the navigation enabled. I had mine charge overnight and then when I disconnected it and went outside, the unit turned off almost immediately. The battery life is even worse as the unit tries to pick up a GPS signal. The unit typically takes anywhere from 7-10 minutes to find a GPS signal. Compared to the Garmin and Tom Tom units I've used in the past, this is an almost unacceptable length of time. I've read through numerous message boards to find out if this is a problem unique to my unit and, unfortunately, it seems like this is a problem with everyone. On the plus side, once the unit has a signal, the performance and reliability are great. I'd be really happy with the unit if it picked up a GPS signal faster because I can live with the fact that most of the time the unit will be plugged into a power outlet of some sort. You've been warned...

4 of 5 It works and will get you there.... Wednesday, April 02, 2008
    BA from Austin, TX
Overall, fair value for the money spent. I gave it a "3" for ease of use, because initially I couldn't find my way around the menu. It is getting better now that I've had the unit awhile. The other catagories of perf/sat/value get higher than the 3. The is my first GPS unit, but I am a repeat customer of HERTZ NEVERLOST system when I frequently travel. So, that is all I have to compare with. Accuracy is pretty good, except for when you actually "Arrive", as it is off by bit. Just use your Eyes, you'll see your final destination in looking distance. Final words, it works and is good value rather than spending more 200 - 500 bucks.

    5 of 5 Best gps for under $300 Wednesday, April 02, 2008
    Darrin Silverman from Bandon, Or
This is a great gps. Loud clear voice, choice of different background colors. Bluetooth for your phone and will play mps holding up to a 2 gig card or about 700 songs. Come with both a home and car charger. A great buy at $249, a steal for under $200.

4 of 5 Good for the Money Wednesday, April 02, 2008
    A Customer from Burlington, Vermont
For $140, this device is great. Out of the box, works well and is easy to use. The nav screen is not customizable like the old Garmin I have. Won't show speed and other info. But it has good maps pre-loaded. It also locks on to GPS siginals quickly and re-calculates missed turns very fast. Great entry level GPS or for someone who doesn't want to take out a second mortage for a new toy....

2 of 5 Good unit, bad performance Tuesday, April 01, 2008
A Customer from New York, New York
Just as many of you I was looking for a cheap unit with great features. I bought NAV720 for $134. I can't argue about features. You get big screen, Bluetooth, games (which are very good), a video and mp3 player, and many other cool programs. What is wrong with the unit? It fails to catch a signal indoors and it takes a very long time to catch a GPS signal outdoors. However, I’ve noticed that once the unit catches a signal it will hold on to it until the unit is turned off. There is also an input for external GPS antenna which you can get for $10-15. I will probably try it since I can't return this unit for a refund. I believe the problem with this unit is the internal antenna. If you notice many high end units have an external antenna for better reception. It could also be a problem with software. I think V7 should either refund the money or replace this unit with a newer version.

    3 of 5 V7 Nav720 Automobile Navigator Sunday, March 30, 2008
    A Customer from Clifton NJ
This units bluetooth is like every one elses you speak like your in a box. You have to attach an optional and extra cost to you microphone and also sneak and hide it in your panels in your car. Then it will sound better. The unit offers games and other things which are really nice. It draws alot of power and it can use a longer battery life. The screen is nice. It doesnt offer the same display and user friendlyness of a tomtom unit. To display speed and time and other useful information on the screen. When putting in directions if you put the zip code it will find things when putting in the city it doesnt. If you buy this for 120 bucks your ok if you pay more then you are not going to be so satisified. It offers alot of features if you get it for a lower price.

2 of 5 One Big Disappointment Saturday, March 29, 2008
    A Customer from Acton California
This GPS device is very undependable. Occasionally locks on to a signal right away but more often than not won't for 10-15 minutes. Indoor/Outdoor doesn't mater. I can't depend on it to lock on in a reasonable amount of time. Software is ok but could use some refining. Storing a favorite is cumbersome. You have to plan a route, wait for it to calculate and then manually move the map to the destination, and then click on the destination. It works but is a pain! The 4 inch screen screen is a joke. It's so covered with icons that the effective viewing area of the map is about 2.5 inches. Fonts are too small. Very hard to read while driving. I guess you get what you pay for. Spend more and get a GPS you can depend on.

1 of 5 Awful piece of electronic junk Friday, March 28, 2008
A Customer from Cleveland , Ohio
Dont even think about buying this GPS. It sounds real good with all the features given the cheap price it can be bought for. But the main function of being a GPS does not happen no matter where you are. I tried it out in four states and it would not pick up a signal on the free way on a sunny day. no matter how long you drive around with it for. As for the bluetooth, now that is completely another issue. It cannot hold on to the signal with a phone for more than 3 minutes after taking more than 20 minutes to get one. The battery life is as good as a piece of plastic. Unless you plan on having the GPS connected to a power source all the time it is not going to help you in anyway. Overall i would suggest anyone who is looking to buy a decent GPS to not even think about buying this one.

2 of 5 My Unit has electrical problem, and bad pixels Wednesday, March 26, 2008
    spiteros from Oak Creek, WI
I received this unit on 3/25/08 charged the unit overnight, when its on, the battery indicator jumps up and down, from 90% to 5% to 50% and so on, the unit will only work on plug power. if its off a pluged power source it will start to belly ache after 3 or 4 minutes that the battery is low, I,m not sure if its the battery or electronics, seems more like a bad voltage regulator to me. I also noticed that it has dead pixels on the screen, The screen is not very bright you will not be able to see it that well on a bright day, We have 4 gps units in the house, its by far has the darkest screen, the sound is horible, it loud enough, but it sounds garbled. Signal takes about a minute to lock on, it says it has the sirf III chip, I dont understand why my other units with the same Sirf III chip can get a signal even when im on the toilet :-) not this one, you need to be outside. I emailed Buy.com for a replacement, I have not heard back from them yet. I am unable to find a phone number to contact them direct about a replacement, so I wait.

I have tried this GPS receiver for about one week, indoor, outdoor, long waiting or 10 minutes, etc. This unit has NEVER showed me it can pick up a signer at any time and any place. I tried to return it back to Buy.com, but was told I have to get it replaced or repaired from the manufacturer. This is the worst item I bought from Buy.com

    5 of 5 Best Value ; Good Performance Saturday, March 22, 2008
    A Customer from Lancaster ,PA
The NAV720 version 2, rec'd from Buy.com performs well. Quick calculations and zero lag. Maps are fluid and sharp. 3D mode gives a nice look. Good sound clarity with "Samantha TTS enabled " (default). For more POI's Download your premium State map update and replace your default State map. Works well and I find I use the route to POI's alot. If not getting a signal, try clicking 'Map" and then the "view hold " button. That locks in your signal. Click the GPS button to confirm it is locating the Satellites. It was snowing today, and no signal loss. Display is sharp. Multiple routing and options are nice . Unit is a little bulky, but is well built. The suction mount with quick connect is real handy. IMHO , this is a best buy under $ 150. BTW, bluetooth works well with my Sony W300i.

    4 of 5 Great value - good performance Saturday, March 22, 2008
    Jeff from Vancouver, WA
I feel bad for the guys who don't seem to be able to get a GPS signal - but mine works great! Of course the indoor signal (seriously, what do you need indoor GPS for?) isn't as reliable as outdoors or in the car, both of which work really well. The unit is very quick - I noticed no lag, especially compared to an iPaq phone I owned that had GPS. Route re-calculation was almost instant. Games and media player included. What a great value!!

1 of 5 this unit is not better than the navigon loox n100 Friday, March 21, 2008
    shurem447s from las vegas, nv
Received this unit the other day.It was sealed with the plastic wrap and gave me an assurance that the unit would work like a charm. After fully charging the unit, unlike my loox n100 the n720 unit failed in capturing a gps signal in-doors, out-doors, and while driving. After 2 hours of trying to get my unit to capture some sort of gps signal with no avail, I thought perhaps V7's website would have an update. Sure enough an update was present and released this month so I spent at least another 2 hours updating the unit. Still after updating the unit, it still could not capture a gps satellite signal indoors, outdoors, and while driving. The following day I called tech support. The tech guy proceeded giving me different ways of resetting the unit. After following his instructions, unit still couldn't pick up a signal. Now i have to mail my unit to a v7 service center located in illinois at my expense - there goes my savings. Furthermore, it is hard to find reviews on this product.

This is just a good nav system for the money. Lots of features and extras and the navigation is easy to use and fast! I definitely recommend this system to anyone who wants a good all-in-one navigation unit but who doesn't want to pay the price. I researched many other products and kept coming back to this one, so I bought and am very happy!!!
