5 of 5 Mother's Day for ME! Monday, May 11, 2009
A Customer from Waltham, MA

I am very pleased with the unit since I am not technologically inclined I sometimes hesitate to go for gadgets but this unit was super easy to operate and install. I used many of the comments on the review pages to make a decision and they turned out to be very accurate. It does not have all the bells and whistles of some models but that was not necessary for me and it seems to be working for my purposes in a simple and uncomplicated way. Thanks

5 of 5 Perfection! Thursday, February 05, 2009
Brent from Orlando, FL
This GPS system is amazing. It is clear, and quick to recalculate if you get off track. There were so many times that I had to wait for thirty or more seconds for my old GPS system to recalculate, all the while I'm off in the wrong direction. This one is quick, looks good, and I can't be happier. It is quite expensive, but I got it as a Christmas gift, so I have to rate the value at 5!

5 of 5 Essential if visiting new cities Monday, October 20, 2008
Anupam from Redmond, Washington
Garmin has improved its GPS. Earlier it was bulky. Now it can be easily carried in pockets. This one is really handy and small and comfortable to use. I recently finished a cross-country road trip from East to West and covered 12 states. I couldn't have done that without my Garmin Nuvi. Simply amazing gadget. Food places, shopping places, fuel places, tourist spots, shortest time routes.... just amazing. I visited 4 friends during my road trip, all in different states and had no trouble finding them. Thanks Garmin and Buy.com

4 of 5 Perfect, with one exception! Thursday, October 09, 2008
John S from Houston, TX
First off, people who complain about this device not having all the bells and whistles really shouldn't complain because they chose to buy the base model. This is a great basic GPS if you really just want great navigation. This gets you from point A to point B far better than tom tom which uses teleatlas. You can find comparisons @ gpsmagazine dot com. The only complaint I have is that there is a dead pixel on my GPS. I previously ordered 4 from amazon and none of those had a dead pixel. Overall, this is an awesome basic GPS for navigation purposes.

5 of 5 great product.. with minor issues Saturday, July 05, 2008
A Customer from Rego Park, NY
I loved this product ... it is great for the price.. and it is definitely not just a product that can get you from point A to point B. It does a lot more than that. Loved the touch screen.. and it lets you select points along the route which you can add to your itenary. Battery lasts a long time. Maps are very accurate. Recalculates your route immediately as you get off track. It does not tell you the total trip distance on the screen... only the arrival time and the distance to next turn. Does not recognize U - Turns, when giving you directions.. so can take you through a longer route, just to get you to U-turn, even on U-turn permissible roads.

5 of 5 Best Value for GPS Wednesday, June 25, 2008
Steve from Ephrata, PA
I was interested after taking a business trip and a colleague had a Garmin Nuvi unit. I bought one for an anniversary trip to Napa Valley, and the Garmin Nuvi 200 performed. The unit is very easy to use, and was very accurate. There was only a couple of times when the unit wanted me to go past the entrance to a winery (a hundred yards), and one time was slow in locating the satellite, but I've been very impressed. The time to get to destination was an added bonus - very accurate.

5 of 5 Easy to setup and use Tuesday, June 24, 2008
billnie50 from Fargo ND
This unit does all off the basic GPS stuff I wanted. It finds locations by GPS coordinates, address or business name. Easy to create waypoints and to save them. I am very satisfied for the money. This unit (like any GPS unit I've seen) takes some odd routes at times, but I think it is a great tool for when you aren't familiar with the area.

5 of 5 Garmin nuvi 200 Portable GPS - 3.5" LCD Touch Tuesday, June 17, 2008
niiarde from St Louis, Missouri
Device worked right out of the box. Seems to take you around a little more than necessary but overall is a great little gadget to have. Price is also right for its performance. The only 'downside' is that it isn't 'text-to-speech' where it mentions the name of the street(s) you're to turn on.

5 of 5 Best entry level basic GPS Saturday, June 07, 2008
A Customer from philadelphia pa
Been a long time user of both TomTom and Garmin GPS units and overall I have always found Garmin to come out just ahead due to their ease of use and overall GUI. All the features in the world don't count for much if you can't intuitively figure out how to use them. Highly recommended if all you're looking for is simple basic navigation with one of the best user interfaces. Buy.com also has mysteriously fast shipping in the Philadelphia area, must have a warehouse nearby.

5 of 5 Great Product and Great Price Monday, June 02, 2008
A Customer from Hinsdale, IL
I have been looking at buying a GPS for my wife for a while. I have received a few calls from my wife to help her because she was lost. This unit had everything she needed at a great price. I hooked it up in the car and it works great. When I looked at it I was a little worried because the voice prompts do not give street names, but the street name is clearly labelled on the unit so it is easy to glance down and see it. I would highly recommend this Garmin unit to anyone.

5 of 5 Ease of mind Thursday, May 29, 2008
A Customer from New York, NY
I gave the Garmin Nuvi 200 to my mom so that she would always feel safe about venturing to new places. Moreover, I don't have to worry about her getting lost. No only does the Nuvi 200 give directions in English, it also provide instructions in her native language which makes using the gadget even more friendly for a non-gadget person. I would definitely purchase any series Garmin has, especially the Nuvi. Great looks, too! Fits in any pocket book!

5 of 5 So Far So Good Saturday, May 24, 2008
A Customer from Grafton, MA
I've had it for a couple weeks and I really like it so far. It actually showed me an alternate route for my commute each day that I didn't know about. If there wasn't so much traffic on it, I'd probably use it instead of the way I go now. So far the only glitch I've run into is one time it got all confused and got left and right mixed up. I could see my destination on the right but it was telling me to go left! After a reboot it was fine again. It was an area that had been recently reconstructed so the map could have been out of date. I would recommend this as a good starter GPS system, it's simple enough that I'm thinking of getting it as a gift for my mother in law who is a technophobe.

4 of 5 Good Product Tuesday, May 06, 2008
A Customer from Charlotte NC
I bought this GPS product two weeks back and using it every time I go out. It's a very good GPS, with all the basic features you need. I wanted a simple GPS which will help me in reaching the destiation and this GPS is exactly doing that! I found few minor issues like the maps are not up to date, which I dont think is a big deal since I can always update the maps myself. Overall I am satisfied with nuvi 200.

4 of 5 Great item - doco is kind of lacking though Saturday, April 26, 2008
Gene from Harrisburg, pa
We just purchased this item recently so have not used in on any long trips. Thus far it is a nice unit. My complaint is that there is precious little doco for the unit. Nothing that I saw discussed the use of the SD card, for example. Also, the only charger was for the car, but most of my charging is done at home. The home charger is an option, at around 20.00 or so. Would have been nice to have this in the box. Overall though, a very nice unit at a great price.

5 of 5 This Baby Rocks! Tuesday, April 22, 2008
A Customer from Berwyn, IL
Folks for the price, you can't beat it. Not only is this a GPS, but it's also an information center. This past week I had to do a price comparison on brakes for my wife's car, normally I'd log on my PC and get the phones numbers and call the store, or if I'm in a bit of a rush I'd call 411 and get charge $4.00 on my cell phone. But, with the 'point of interest feature', I was able to locate the 2 auto parts stores phone number, that were near by and do my price comparison. This saved me time and money. Highly recommend!!!!

5 of 5 Best Value for the Money Friday, April 18, 2008
DH from Philadelphia, PA
The Nuvi 200 is great. It boggles my mind that they can cram all those street level maps, destination details like restaurants, stores, etc., AND GPS functionality into a package so small, then sell it for $160. The screen size seems small until you mount it, then you see that the detail is just the right size to keep you from having to refocus from far to near when driving. In other words, you can glance at the GPS and then back to the road without refocusing. Clever design. I love it!!

5 of 5 LOVE IT!! Wednesday, April 16, 2008
A Customer from CHICAGO, IL
So I got one because one of my co-workers have one and thought it was a cool gadget to have, and it comes in handy A LOT! Very easy to use, especially for me. I'm not too big on electronics. So, I had a trip to take to Ohio. It got me around the city. Except when i put the address in for the hotel it took me somewhere else. But it had the name of the hotel and I got there ok. Then I had to return the rental car, in which where I had to return it was not at the airport. Didn't know the address where I had to return it. Searching through my Garmin it had Enterprise Rental Car return. Clicked on it and it got me there with ease. I would recommend this for everybody that can't spend a lot and looking for ease of use... VERY, VERY EASY!!!

4 of 5 Very good, but... Monday, March 31, 2008
SCauble from Lantana, TX
While I like the majority of features offering with this GPS, there are two features that are disappointing: 1) The unit often takes you on obscure backroads to a destination when more direct major routes (i.e. Interstate) are available. I'm not sure why, and this doesn't seem to happen with other Garmin units (and models) I have in other cars. 2) Nowhere can you find the number of miles to your destination--just the estimate arrival time. Other than that, the unit works fine. We use it as we travel every weekend around the country.

A Customer from Parkland, FL
I was a little worried about buying one of these. I have a Corvette and the Navigational system never gets you there the best way. Purchased this for the wife's truck and some traveling and it has been great. Very accurate and take you from point A to B without any trouble. Highly recommend this product!

4 of 5 Garmin 200 Friday, March 14, 2008
Dennis Livengood from Rosedale,In.
Only took about a week from the time I ordered until I recieved my unit.I think garmin still makes one of the best units. The unit does need maps updates, which I understand can be gotten from Garmin website. As I came through Nashville Tenn. It was lost ,but at least I knew where I was going. When I got to Indiana and close to home,it tried to take me into the town that my address is associated with, rather than my actual street address. The only thing I wish I had of gotten was turn by voice for the streets themselves. That way you dont have to look on the unit to see what street is coming up that you have to turn on.For my needs this unit is fine I dont need Bluetooth and music.Outside of that I have no real complaints. If I can't get map updates which will take care of the little problems ,I'll be writing another review.Second thing I have gotten from buy .com and wont be the last .

5 of 5 Nice GPS for nice price Tuesday, February 26, 2008
Damon from Dacula
Right out of the box this GPS has worked well for us. It has no problem picking up satellites quickly and quickly calculates and recalculates the best route to places. All the maps are preloaded and banks, restaurants, ATMs, etc.. This would receive all 5 stars except for some minor issue. The maps aren't exactly up to date. Some neighborhoods over three years old are not in the maps. I probably need to figure out how to download newer maps. I also hate the warning and disclaimer menu you have to accept on startup. Why do we let lawyers do this to us? The screen is very good and the device is actually pocket size if you wanted to put it in a shirt pocket.

5 of 5 Great features for the price Wednesday, January 30, 2008
Linda from Charles Town, WV
I have two other Garmin products (a 2720 street pilot for my car and the newer model made specifically for motorcycles), and I love them both. I bought this model specifically for walking. I travel a lot and often have to walk in unfamiliar cities and thought for the price this would be a nice thing to have. The features are good: navigation is great, the setup is easy, there's a pedestrian mode, it's got mp3, etc. However, I thought this model had bluetooth because I had used a similar model and didn't pay enough attention to these specs. My plan was to be able to leave the device in my purse or pocket and use my bluetooth earpiece to hear the directions. Of course I can't do that; I have to use the built in speakers instead. So I was disappointed I couldn't use it the same way I had planned, but it's a minor thing and it was my own fault. Two suggestions, though if you decide to buy one. This unit does not come with a case. Since it has a touch screen, I want to protect it. You can buy one at the garmin.com site, or just use a generic soft sided small case. Second, the only charger that comes with it is the cigarette lighter adapter. If you're using it just in the car, that's probably fine. If you're using it outside the car, you want to be able to charge it elsewhere. Don't spend the money on a separate Garmin AC adapter - for a few dollars you can find online cheap adapters that plug into an AC outlet and accept a cigarette lighter adapter plug. If you're buying this as your first system, I think it's a great price.

4 of 5 Love it! Tuesday, January 29, 2008
A Customer from Atlanta, GA
Bought this for my elderly mother who just moved into town. We love it. Pretty easy to use, for me it's intuitive, a little more work for her, but I set up some favorites for her and she's just fine. Now I don't have to worry about her getting lost, she can just hit the favorites and choose "Home".

4 of 5 Good Buy Tuesday, January 29, 2008
A Customer from Miami, FL
You can't beat this system, especially for the Price it's offered at. I've been using the system for 3 weeks now and it's been flawless, save for 1 new street that wasn't on the maps. The voice guidance is great, the display is crystal clear, the speed of updates when you miss a turn is amazing... Trust me, you won't be dissapointed. The biggest plus has to be the ease of use. Just plug in and go. Very impressed. Didn't expect this much for such a low price.

5 of 5 Excellent Investment Tuesday, January 22, 2008
A Customer from Traverse City, MI
I have only had this unit for about a week now, and have already gotten my money's worth. We have had horrible weather, leading to bad driving conditions all over, but particularly on highways. I was able to use my GPS to find different routes that avoided highways, that would otherwise have been unfamiliar with. It was great. The price I got through buy.com was amazing - about $75 below what it would've cost at the local electronics store. I stuck with the free shipping which still got the GPS part of my order to my door in less than 4 days. The only negative I've come across is that it doesn't have the most up-to-date listings of stores and restaurants in some areas. But, that's nothing that would stop me from purchasing this product.

5 of 5 Excellent Gadget Monday, January 21, 2008
A Customer from San Antonio Texas
Hi I bought this gps recently and started using it almost instantly. I had gone to baltimore to see my relatives and had tried using the gps. It works really great. Every place, every nook and corner is correctly directed. You can avoid highways, if you dont want to drive fast and can take the Farm roads. A wonderful wonderful wonderful gadget. I will never travel without it. It beats the Hertz's Gps also in ease of use. It talks to you.. telling you well in hand.. where to turn and in how many miles you turn. This is the best pic in Consumer reports too.. Sure buy...

5 of 5 One Minor Flaw but Love it Otherwise Wednesday, December 26, 2007
Ben Brumfield from Shelby, NC
I shopped all of the manufacturers and their features, benefits and prices and came up with this one as the overall best pick for value for the money. Overall I've been very pleased with the unit. It works well and does everything it says it will do. The only roads not on the map are the newly built ones, new subdivisions, etc. It's been a great unit on the job for me but with one minor flaw. When you approach your destination point it will sometimes tell you that the arrival point is on the left when it is actually on the right or vice versa. Other than this, it's a great unit and I would still recommend it to anybody buying their first GPS.

I was kind of hesitant to purchase it - price looked too low to provide good product. I am glad that I did it, it works perfectly well for me. I find it very easy to use. Satellite connection is not ideal, but it is pretty fast. Cons: voice is not very pleasant to hear.
