5 of 5 Tom Tom # 1 Monday, January 05, 2009 Dan Markwick from DeRidder, LA
I like it. Works right out of the box. I did have to contact Tom Tom for an updated download but other than that it is great. I do not own a blue tooth capable phone so I cannot use the "Smart extras". A possible bonus of this unit is the pedestrian and bicycling routes that are available. I have not tried this unit for hiking yet. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Refurbished Tom Tom Sunday, January 04, 2009 Jim D from South Carolina
Bought two refurbished Tom Tom One units for my daughters - one was fine no problems, the other never worked first time she plugged it into the car it smoked from the area where the memory card is inserted. These were Xmas presents and Buy.com will not help since it is over 14 days, working with Tom Tom to get a replacement. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Lots of features Monday, December 22, 2008 Vance from Michigan
Bought this unit for my son's birthday. Works like a charm and has many features compared to my own FineDrive unit. A TomTom will definitely the top of the list when it comes time to replace mine.

5 of 5 Great Basic GPS from a buy.com good buy Monday, December 15, 2008 vrarang from Walled Lake, MI
The TomTom ONE's New Edition (aka 2nd edition) software is upgradeable to v3 (which is supposedly what the TomTom ONE 3rd Edition is using. I read a review somewhere that the Clear Route icon is conveniently in the first menu screen but it isn't. Other than that, TT One performs what it is supposed to do, including the very handy speed limit warning. I am very satisfied with the overall features and specs of the product. 5 of 5 Awesome Product Tuesday, August 12, 2008 Travis from Pioneer, OH
This has gotten me to just about everywhere I wanted to go even when I don't have a clue where I'm going. It is definitely worth $100. The only thing I have to say is that I could turn it on without it being plugged in, but now it will only turn on while plugged in. I did figure out another way of turning it on. Remove the memory card and put it back in. Then, you can turn it on without being plugged in. Was this review helpful?

I am very satisfied with the Tomtom GPS. This is my second unit as I gave the previous one to my folks.
At this price, you cannot ask for anything better. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Very nice! Sunday, June 15, 2008 Ziffusion from Boston, MA
I've always liked TomTom GPS. I was a little leery about buying a refurbished unit, but there was no problem at all. Turns out that a lot of tech products are returned for rather silly reasons (by folks who are maybe not very tech savvy). So, if you can handle minor glitches, go for refurbished units and save yourself a bundle. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Easy to use Saturday, June 14, 2008 wj5wj5 from Normangee, Texas
The Tom Tom One was my first GPS, had no trouble getting it up and runing, made a short trip and every thang worked fine. Three days later I down loaded the new maps whitch were free. The next day tried to turn it on, but wouldn't come on, the ONE was dead. got a RMA from tom tom. I sent the ONE back for replacement but havent gotten it back yet. Will write another review when I can try it out for a while. I wont my review to be a fair review.
I would have given the ONE a 5X5 if it hadn't DIED. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 exactly what I was looking for, easy to use Friday, April 18, 2008 Gregg from Freehold, NJ
The setup was a little tricky I think because it was a refurb, but once I got it set up my TomTom One has been just what I was looking for--a small, easy to use and complete GPS for my car. The touch screen is easy to operate and enter addresses. The device connects easily to my laptop and allows me to enter the addresses on my PC instead.
Only hole in the maps that we found was that the Philadelphia Zoo was missing as a POI when we searched for it, but through TomTom's map update feature you can submit suggestions and changes to the map and download others' suggestions as well. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Problems but works most of the time Saturday, April 05, 2008 A Customer from Woodstock, GA
I had this for a while now and finally decided to review it. It doesn't start up sometime and after reinstalling the OS and map, it still doesn't work 100%. So it's better to buy a brand new one for $50 more than this refur one. But overall, TomTom is a good GPS as I own the 910 model and works GREAT. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Don't Buy Wednesday, February 20, 2008 Shiv from owings mills, md
I bought the refurbished GPS for 150$ but let me tell you I had numerous issues with this item.
Sometimes it won't start up, sometimes it will hang and will leave in the middle of the road to manage the drive on your own.
Better be smarter than me and buy garmin.
To my utter surprise, it has enterted me three times into 1 way- Baltimore MD(Haines St), White Plains NY (Near walmart), North White Plains NY (near Metro station)
So don't buy it if you have a choice. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Good for the value Wednesday, December 19, 2007 A Customer from wall,nj
It is easy to use, and works pretty well. I have used this in canada, and puerto Rico and it worked well. The only thing is i tried it around my area and sometimes i know the route it choses is not the best but i dont think any GPS system will know it. It is def a good buy. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 This works great! Sunday, December 16, 2007 djminfll from Fort Lauderale, FL
I didn't think I would use this as much as I actually do! It's great when you travel - find your way from the airport to your hotel, a particular store or restauarant just by typing in the name, and so much more!
Even at home, I got stuck in a huge traffic jam due to a horrible accident - all of the regular roads were closed and the one open road was completely clogged. I just pulled out Tom-Tom and requested the route home, but asked it to AVOID the road I was on. It immediately took me down side streets, avoiding all of the congestion, and got me home in no time!
Unfortunately, right after I purchased this refurbised model, the new ones offered a rebate, so I could have gotten a new one for almost the same price, but I am completely happy with mine!
If you think you won't make use of one, THINK AGAIN! Was this review helpful?

2 of 5 Save your money! Sunday, December 09, 2007 Steve from Wheaton, IL
TomTom makes a great product, but DON'T buy the refurb unit from Buy.com unless you're prepared for a lot of problems, and a lot of time waiting for product to be replaced!
I bought mine from Buy.com thinking it looked like a good deal. Well, the first unit I received continued to reset itself every 15 minutes. Not very helpful when you're on the highway! I called TomTom Tech support. Although they were nice about it, they said I'd have to ship the unit back to them at my expense for repair.
I called Buy.com, and since the unit was so recently received, they agreed to an exchange, and they would provide a return shipment label. But, I had to wait for nearly three weeks while my unit was shipped back before they confirmed receipt and sent me my replacement unit.
The new unit had issues as well, but I was able to resolve them by having TomTom walk me through wiping out the memory card and reloading everything. Oh, and the map included was already out of date, and TomTom said that I'd have to contact Buy.com to resolve. Buy.com said I was out of luck!
It's working now at least... but wasn't worth the savings! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Not easy to use Saturday, December 08, 2007 Phil Allen from Laingsburg, MI
The claim on this site is "Ready to Go, Use right out of the box". The instructions suggested the same. Nothing could be further from the truth. I had to search their web site for a clue on why it didn't work, jump through hoops and search for 2 different numbers that needed to be entered before it was activated. I also had to hook it up to my PC to get it activated, because the numbers and spaces couldn't be entered through the touch screen.
It gets me where I want to go. Detailed voice instructions amazed me. However, It doesn't always choose what I consider the most direct route. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Do not buy!! Friday, December 07, 2007 A Customer from Reynoldsville, Pa
You can now purchase this item new cheaper than this used (refurbished). Also, a refurbished item limits your return options. I purchased this in October thinking I would get a headstart on Christmas Shopping...mistake. I can't return it because refurbished items are limited to 14 days. Again, look around you can find a new one cheaper! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 The best Idea when going for GPS Tuesday, December 04, 2007 Dustin from Santa Monica, CA
This item has worked very well since I have received it and all the features are awesome. Bluetooth hook up to my phone for traffic is 2nd only to the complete maps that it comes with. And the price is very do-able. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Very Good - But VERY basic Monday, December 03, 2007 John from Allentown, PA
The GPS does work right out of the box. Connected to my computer with a fair amount of ease. The "advanced features" like traffic and all are tricky. First, there are a VERY limited amount of supported phones. Second, only a few providers are supported (Cingular andT-Mobile Only). The combinations makes it hard to use the advanced features, which was a main reason I bought this GPS but cannot use. So I will not be able to use the traffic servcice, and Tom Tom offered a lame generic response when I asked when they would support more phones/providers. Its seems they clearly oversell the traffic and other services when they cannot support what they advertise. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 *itch to get started, OK to use Sunday, December 02, 2007 Michael from Morgan Hill, California
As a refurb unit, I did not know what to expect, having had mixed luck with such units of any device from almost any manufacturer. But for $179, I bit anyway. Experience: OK, but with reservations. I don't think I would buy another one, but I will use this one until it dies or annoys me too much. Points about it:
1) Like others, I found the unit horrible to get going, not at all intuitive like the Magellan. I had to call tech support from the get-go. 2) I find the constant instructions to "After 800 yards, keep left" on the freeway to be annoying and moronic. Maybe that's just me. 3) The unit crapped out, started locking up with the Agreement acceptance screen displayed so it was impossible to get it to work. Other things in conjunction as well, but a lengthy call to tech support and a few downloaded updates, a complete reinstallation of the software later and it works OK for now.
Bottom line: Unit so-so, tech support is all it needs to be, support personnel good and helpful. But would rather it worked well without that necessity. Would a new unit rather than a refurb be better? Don't know. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Did not work "out of the box" Saturday, December 01, 2007 Jmuneses from Fallston, MD
Bought the unit at a discounted price because "refurbished". The map worked well, but when inputting address to navigate the unit would freeze and reset. After 2.5 hours on the phone with tech support they told me that the unit had the wrong map installed. I was guided through a download reinstallation that took another hour. Still did not work. Had to practically threaten the teck to authorize a return slip for them to repair. I also had to pay for shipping and insurance.
Total cost of product with frustrations: Hundreds more than I saved. Save yourself the frustration, buy a new Magellan Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Tom-Tom is Fantastic! Friday, November 30, 2007 A Customer from Waycross, GA
We LOVE our Tom-Tom...it has already paid for itself several times. We've driven out of state several times since making the purchase and have used the Tom-Tom on every trip...to find the airport, to locate gas stations, and to find restaurants nearby. This is by far the best money we've ever spent on a travel product...we highly recommend the Tom-Tom! Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Everything I'd hoped it would be! Thursday, November 29, 2007 Evan from Cincinnati, OH
I purchased this GPS as my first GPS. Mostly due to the price, but I had read good things about it. I was not disappointed! I work as a PC field technician, so this helps save me a lot of time of not having to print up maps and routes to get where I'm going.
I only gave it 4 starts on performance because of two things: 1) In all my uses, it didn't steer in me in the correct direction one time. It told me to turn right on a road and my destination was just ahead on the right... in the middle of a giant hill. I actually needed to turn left. So far only the one issue with directions. 2) The wireless bluetooth features don't work with the Sprint/Nextel network. Or at least they don't have the network info preloaded on it. So I can't take advantage of some of the other features such as Tom Tom traffic, etc.
Other wise it has been a dream! Worked right out of the box. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 This is now my FAVORITE thing Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Diane from Colgate, WI
I had bought a different one and returned it as it was just too much trouble to setup and learn how to use.
I had the TOM TOM up and running without any reading. It works like a charm. If you take a different route, it catches up with you and then leads you from that spot.
Can't say enough good about it. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 nice product and a decent price Wednesday, November 28, 2007 vtwinvic from Gautier MS
i received my tomtom 1 quickly after ordering. this item was a refurbished item. would not work properly when first turned one. contacted tomtom customer service. this company was the best and friendliest company i have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. i knew i made the right choice with the tomtom even though i had a problem with it. the repair was made by a download on line and they went out of their way to make sure it was working properly when the download was complete. it was a minor map problem and now works like a charm. 5 of 5 Easy to use GPS Wednesday, November 28, 2007 explrrw from El Paso, TX
I've been using the Tomtom one for the last 4 months, and I believe it is one the easiest to use, compared to others I've used like the Magellan and Mio. You just have to touch the screen and press on the "navigate to" icon, enter an address, intersection, a point of interest (POI), location on map or coordinates, and that is it. The screen is bright and sharp, but you have to manually turn on night mode, otherwise it would be too bright. the unit is small enough to fit in a shirt pocket. The mount is small simple and effective, again compared to the Magellan and Mio. The only features lacking are the number of POIs, there are none for Puerto Rico, and it won't announce the name of the streets. Otherwise a simple easy to use GPS. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great GPS for a great price. Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Mario from Monroe, NJ
As a previous owner of a Magellan Roadmate, and a Garmin nuvi (that was stolen) that was about $200 more in cost than the TomTom One, I can definitely attest to the TomTom being completely comparable than the previous stated GPS's, and a having much more value than them as well. For the price, no GPS is better. Functionality is on point, tons of POI's, and has the option of traffic updates as well (with an upgrade). All around, terrific buy on Buy.com. 5 of 5 Great Product Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Wind Lake, WI
I love my new "toy". The Tom Tom One GPS that I purchased has been a tremendous asset and time saver when I have taken it on trips not only in my home state, but on two vacation trips as well. Very easy to use, and I am still finding out more and more things it is capable of doing. It may not have all the bells and whistles that more expensive models do, but I am perfectly satisfied with its performance. Great value for the money. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Could be better Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from houston, tx
I have two of these refurbished units. The first one works great so I gought another ine for my wife. The 2nd one has some problems if you are not mech. inclined. Of course that is the one my wife got. She was stuck of the other side of town with not a clue on how to get back home. The unit is supose to have a feature that you can just put in you home address and it will get you there. well it was not working. I have since given her the 1st one I bought and there are no problems. It does take a little while to set up but works great. Was this review helpful?

In one word: Great! I had a little bit of a problem initially, apparently there was a glitch with the included map. I called Customer Support and they were able to help me resolve the problem promptly. Since then I haven't had any other problems. The device performs great, I use it everyday. I highly recommend it. 5 of 5 Great Item for the Price Wednesday, November 28, 2007 rlkirkman from Fairfax, VA
Bought the refurbished TomTomOne, but you would have thought it was brand new. Opened the package, charged up the battery, and loaded the software onto my PC. I used it to drive from Wash, DC, to the New York harbor and it performed perfectly. Had no problems whatsoever! Used it to drive from Wash, DC, to Baltimore, MD. Commuter traffic was heavy so I had the GPS display an alternate route, which it did and it also performed perfectly. On the negative side, it does take a minute or so to lock on to the satellites, but once it does, it works great. It's a must-have item for everyone. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Had some problems, but working great now Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Trevor from Fort Collins, CO
I have been using this GPS unit for a couple of months now and have used it in multiple states.
Buying the refurbished unit meant that I needed to spend quite a bit of time on the phone with customer support.
First my product activation code didn't work. Then the unit was shutting down while trying to plan a route.
After speaking with support I acquired a new product code and they helped me reset and download new maps and software to the device. Now it works great.
My only other cons are that the unit doesn't power down when the car turns off like some other models, so it is done manually. It also takes 1-3 minutes to get a GPS signal when turning on.
If traveling I would suggest a travel case for the unit.
Overall, I am still satisfied and would recommend the unit. Of course the price can't be beat. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Great, but not before 1 return Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Charlie Morgan from Nashville, TN
I am finally happy with my refurbed TomTom One. But this was not before I had major problems with the first one sent. The car charger cable was broken and the touch screen refused to allow me to enter trip data at the most frustrating times. The unit also went "berserk" once, in the middle of a trip in Upstate New York. It suddenly decided I was in Louisiana, and then in Illinois, all in the space of 5 minutes. Luckily I had downloaded Google Map information for this particular trip (something I normally never do: must be prescient). Buy.com replaced the original unit (at no extra cost to me, although it took me 3 weeks to finally GET a working unit) Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Value Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Albuquerque, NM
Works great for the price. Of course you don't get text to speech, handsfree phone, MP3 support, etc. but you do get same maps provided with more expensive Tom Tom's. Very easy to use as well. I also had to call tech support to get running (in my case due to a corrupted map file) but found support to be instantly available and very helpful. Highly recommended. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 TomTom Rox Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Reedsburg, WI
It took me three times to finally get a functioning unit, but as they say the third time is the charm! This TomTom is inexpensive, really easy to use and makes navigation by car or by foot a pleasure. The easy to read touchscreen is quick and responsive and the directions are simple to follow. I definitely recommend this for anyone looking to get a simple GPS! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Needed to be reinitialized with TomTom help Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from NJ
The unit is now fine. It was hanging/freezing at first a lot.
After MANY calls to tech support, they diagnosed it to have a corrupted map file(s). They walked me through reinitialization of all map files. Now the unit is stable and works well. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Good but not the best Wednesday, November 28, 2007 W R from Sacramento CA
I had trouble configuring and updating the unit on the first and second attempts and I followed the directions to the letter. I contacted Tom Tom Tech Support who stated that the unit's SD card needed to be reformatted and was missing a small script which was causing the updating and configuration problems. After that was resolved, the unit worked just fine and has been ever since. Although, updating the maps can be tricky, and very time consuming. Creating regular back-ups of the SD card is essential. 4 of 5 Good value, beats the heck out of maps and MapQues Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Tom H from Rochester, NY
We travel out of town for my son's hockey. It got to be a real pain to run multiple MapQuest directions. The Tom Tom One is a basic GPS and has made life much easier when traveling. You won't be disappointed for about $150. The Tom Tom One is not perfect - Sometimes it takes you way out of the way to stay on main roads, somtimes it takes a few minutes to find the GPS signals and on a rare occasion it provides incorrect directions at intersections. It is easy to use and I would recommend it to a friend. I'm buying another one for a Christmas present for my father in law. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Refurbished Excellent Value Wednesday, November 28, 2007 jmlavic from St. Louis, MO
Ordered TomTom before overseas trip and then downloaded map of France. Difficulty getting France map accepted but worked after downloaded utility from TomTom website. Set up trip for each day using trains and walking, gave walking route, found closest train station, found restaurants and museums as Points of Interest or with address (even found Paris Catacombs) . Takes a little time finding signal in Paris but eventually locates position. Battery last 2-3 hours of constant use so turned off when not using to get through whole day.
Back home in U.S. works great. Refurbished was half-price with one year warrenty. At Thanksgiving were selling new for same price.

5 of 5 Tom Tom One...first time user Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Glenn Van Acker from Columbiana, Ohio
What a product. I've never had a GPS before and have been scared off by the $500.00 prices. We've moved to a new State and know absolutely no one. I risked only a few dollars for this GPS, from Buy.Com, and was really impressed. It is almost scary how this thing operates. It was extremely easy to set up and use. I wish I had bought it the first day we moved here (Ohio). Highly recommended. Was this review helpful?

4 of 5 Outstanding value for the money Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Deerfield, IL
If you can get the refurbished model like I did it is an outstanding value. The product is very easy to use and it's really great that you can plan itieraries ahead of time and save them. That feature is a good tool for trip planning and seeing how long a trip might take you to get ther...kind of like having Mapquest in your pocket! Spoken directions are clear and give ample warning so you'll know when to turn. My only performance complaint is that with some suburban residential addresses I've tried to plug in, it ultimately gets you to the right street but the actual location of the house number I was going to versus where Tom Tom said it was was sometimes up to a hundred yards off. I did not have this problem when driving to locations in downtown Chicago, the mapping was accurate there. Tom Tom also has fun features where you can purchase additional voices to be your navigator like John Cleese or Mr. T. The rerouting options work well and include more than just "avoid tollways", and there is an option to add a traffic service if you ever decide you want that. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great for GPS Newbies! Wednesday, November 28, 2007 R.D. from Tracy, CA
Bought this refurbished TomTom One from Buy.com. Was a bit hesitant at first because of it being refurbished, but the price was hard to beat plus buy.com's reputation, I decided to go ahead and buy it. Anyway, if you're looking to buy an easy to use GPS, you can't go wrong with this one. Even technophobes will find it easy to use. It had accurate maps preloaded, though you may want to update it since newer versions have been released. It didn't seem refurbished at all, in both appearance or performance. Buy.com sells great items at lower prices way before anyone else decides to start selling them at discounted prices. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great little unit for the technologically challeng Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Louisiana
The TomTom has worked wonderfully in the few months I've owned it. It is easy to use and its portability makes it ideal for traveling via plane and placing in rental cars.
The display is plenty big, but if you have poor eyesight, I would suggest getting the XL with the larger screen. Overall I am extremely pleased with my TomTom and planning on getting one for my sister and mother this year. Was this review helpful?

4 of 5 generally pleased Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Steve from Herndon, VA
Once you get a route planned out the Tom Tom ONE works pretty well...it even helped me get around a weekend traffic jam on the way home from a trip to the Shenandoah mountains. I also found the alleged suction cup problem--my chief reservation in buying--to be a non-issue. :-) The chief drawback I encountered was programming routes when you don't have an actual address (I did not realize how often I was headed somewhere without an actual address). A secondary drawback is seemingly limited battery life; after having sat for a few days unplugged it needs charging. Perhaps this is how all GPS units are... Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great buy... Easy to use... Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Phila, PA
I purchased this unit since I had used a TomTom before, it's an excellent buy for the price.
I also purchased a second one for a friend who never used it and she loves it. "Really easy to use." Was this review helpful? Click here to see all 131 reviews
