4 of 5 Loud, but works! Friday, December 14, 2007 DC from Evanston, IL
No matter what they say, this thing is loud. It's pretty loud on the low setting. However, I have it in my bedroom, and the noise actually helps me sleep better once I adjusted to it. Also, it works! The dust level in the bedroom is down significantly. The HEPA filter is permanent, but there are pre-filters that will need changing every 3-4 months or so, so that's kind of a drag. But all in all, I'm quite satisfied with it, especially considering the price. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works great, a bit noisy... Tuesday, November 27, 2007 doublebarrel from Indianapolis, IN
It works, just as described. Two months now and the prefilter(the active carbon filter that wraps around the HEPA one) is already dirty and filthy. Imagine all that dirty filth floating in my room while I'm breathing. The noise level is a bit high, but that's a common trait of Honeywell brand, already knew that by my research prior to purchase...
The unit has electronic controls and is programmable, but lacks a one-touch/countdown timer like on the Panasonic model I had before. In other words, you can program it to start at say, 10pm, and shut off at 11pm. But you can't quickly program it to start right now, and shut off an hour later...
The manual says the HEPA filter lasts a life time, just vacuum the outside and it's as clean and fresh as a new one. To me, that's like trying to empty your vacuum cleaner's bag(the paper kind) right into your trash can, probably by hand, and reuse that bag, while the dust is flying around. Most vacuum cleaners can't filter anything microscopic, let alone down to 0.3 micron like the HEPA standard. Use the vacuum cleaner to clean a HEPA filter, is exactly undoing all the filtering work that has been done so far by the air purifier, and putting the dust back into your room, and wasting all that electricity it'd taken to run the air purifier...
Besides, cleaning HEPA filter with vacuum cleaner's attachment brush can easily poke holes in the HEPA filter element, and damage it. A leaking HEPA filter is totally useless. So, permanent HEPA filter is hogwash, I'd buy new ones. The good news is that, HEPA filters, even when they're clogged, they do not reduce their efficiency and let more particles pass through, like those electrostatic purifiers such as the Sharper Image Ionic Quadra. They just let less air through, less efficient on your electric bill... Was this review helpful?
