This is my third unit. I have been using different brand of battery backup. Tripp iight. dynex, and this. They all work great! No problem so far! This compact unit has 4 outlets of battery backup and 4 outlets of isolation from house power. Plus a phone jack input with 2 outputs that offer transient protection. A nifty USB connection plus software allows instant communication with the device for status and a report of interruption of power, including how much time is remaining before shutdown. This is my 2nd unit, both purchased from Buy.com. I telecommute from Tampa to NY every day and needed to ensure that my system didn't go down every time we had a thunderstorm here in Tampa. Just like clockwork, starting June 1st this year we started to receive our daily thunderstorm that causes power spikes that used to shut my system down. This year, I don't have to worry about it because I have my new CyberPower CP550SL UPS.
This unit sometimes gets tested 3-4 times a day and hasn't had any issues. I've only had the first one for about 6 months, but I've already recouped the purchase price back in time that I didn't have to shut down for preventative measures. When I got my new big screen tv, I decided to protect my investment with another one of these and we were able to watch tv during a 10 minute power outage.

I own a small firm with 22 workstations on my computer network. I have always used APC products for my UPS needs on each. I recently purchased a CyberPower CP550SL UPS from Buy.com and was so pleased with it that I ordered two more. They appear to be comparable to APC units in every respect. Well built, communicates with the computer via USB, and comes with its own easy-to-configure auto-shutdown software. The price is excellent and the free shipping offer through Buy.com is unbeatable. Being in charge of office operations, I am responsible for ensuring that the products that we buy are doing what they were bought for. And the Cyberpower 550VA UPS DOES ITS JOB within the specifications that it was design for. I tested the UPS on several occassions to provide back-up power to some office equipment and IT NEVER FAILED. Plus COMPARED TO SIMILAR PRODUCTS the PRICE IS COMPETITIVE if not right out CHEAP. I have a Tower PC with a dual core pentium processor, a separate external drive and a 22" lcd monitor hooked up to this and get just 5 minutes of run time. Based on the spec. found at the manufacturers website I I expected at least a 20 minute run time. Go for the Cyberpower 685-VA 390W if you want to use your PC in an outage versus simply letting the device bring you down elegantly. Was this review helpful?

I have purchased battery backup units from a variety of manufacturers This one is a real bargain, and it works fine. I was happy to find extra surge-protected outlets on the unit. These come in handy and reduce the need for an extra power strip. This unit is small enough to be deployed where it's needed. I use it to provide backup power for my network attached storage device, but it would be adequate for a router, a desktop workstation and monitor, or a small server. This is a basic UPS that provides 10 or 20 minutes of battery backup for my midrange desktop with a 17" LCD Monitor (along with my cable internet modem and wireless router). The unit is almost identical to the equivalent APC model. One reason for selecting this model was the information sheet from the manufacturer that the UPS and the power panel software had been fully tested and were compliant with and certified for use with VISTA. Unfortunately, the VISTA supported version of the software was not packaged with the product and required a download (the download is also required if you are running Explorer version 7). The download was not a real problem but was a bit unexpected given the manufacturer information sheet. This is probably a temporary situation because both cyberpower and APC will probably have the updated software packaged in their products soon. It only took about 5 minutes to download the software and it was simple to install. I hooked up the UPS and everything works perfectly. The power panel software provides nice controls and lots of informative screens. This type of basic UPS does not have tight voltage regulation (battery powertakes over below 100 V and above 140 V) but the controlled range is OK for most simple computer systems so that the extra $40 or so for voltage regulation may not be requuired.
