| | | | Value in a Clever Design - The OpticBook 3600 Corporate brings affordable value in its unique design, eliminating the book spine shadow and text distortion of traditional book copying and scanning. Our clever design avoids the need for a large, expensive overhead scanner or complicated image-editing software.
Multifunction one-touch buttons - 7 one-touch buttons are designed to make your scanning easy and efficient, whether you're using bound originals (e.g., books, magazines) or normal paper (e.g., photos, documents). With just one touch, you can save the scanned images or convert images of the text document into text files that can be edited with a word processor. You may also choose to send them to another application for further editing, to a printer, or to a new e-mail message as attached files.
SEE Technology - Plustek's patent pending SEE™ (Shadow Elimination Element) Technology includes a specially designed edge and lamp. This revolutionary technology allows half of the book to lay completely flat on the glass with the binding against the corner edge.

4 of 5 A Great, but highly Specialized Tool Saturday, January 31, 2009 Harry J. DePietro, Esq. from Girard, Ohio
This is my 5th scanner. I have been wanting one for some time, but the need to have "normal" scanning duties covered at my office caused its purchase to be put on hold for a while.
There are plenty of times that I want to scan something in from a book and either save it or translate it to a word processing document to take quotes from. Using a "normal" scanner to try and get a decent copy of something in a bound volume is impossible because of the curved text or imagery which results from the close proximity of the book's binding to the printing on the page. Using that method, the best you can get is the text -- and that is only after someone sits down and retypes it all into a word processing document. With this scanner, you can actually get a good word processing version of the page using the included version of ABBYY FineReader optical character recognition software.
This is a great, but specialized tool. If you need this thing, there is absolutely nothing else which can do the same job (within the normal operating budget of most folks or businesses).
Three cheers for Plustek for delivering this exceptional product. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great scanner for books Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Iowa
Quality scans, fast and easy to use. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 So nice, I bought it twice Monday, March 12, 2007 Tom Carson from Beaverton, Oregon
If you want to scan books, this is a great scanner/OCR combo. This model produces good quality non-searchable PDF files with ease. Since I have had the unit only a couple of weeks, I don't know how durable the scanner is for the long haul. I have scanned a couple hundred pages in getting to "know" the unit/software without issue. For the worst situtation, I had to power-cycle the unit.
To date, I have only seen 2 issues with the unit/software:
1. To make a searchable PDF file, you need additional software.
2. On books with tight bindings & very small inner page margins, you may lose some data. Was this review helpful?
