I purchased these to use with a new Audio-Visual Sound system with my Flat Screen TV. It's been years since I last heard Cerwin-Vega speakers but these are just as I remembered! Great sound reproduction. The price through Buy.com you just can't beat! The speakers came excellently packaged for shipping and arrived within a week of purchase. I purchased these speakers as rear surround speakers for my home theater system. I already had 2 full tower Cerwin Vega 350w speakers up front and a 110w Cerwin Vega center channel speaker, and was replacing two 100w Pioneer tower speakers I had been using in the rear of the setup.
These speakers easily put out as much sound as the Pioneer towers did (if not more) and have an amazing amount of base thump for as small as they are. The sound they put out really sounds like it's coming from a full tower speaker, not a demure 8" speaker.
I tested using one of my favorite surround movie sequences, the battle in Mel Gibson's front yard corn field in The Patriot. Rifle shots, clashing bayonets and whizzing bullets all sounded sharp and crisp, emanating clearly from all around the room and when a cannon went off from the right rear speaker, it made my dog jump from the very solid and deep boom that the CW VE-5M put out.
Not only can these little speakers handle your highs and mids but have very surprising low frequency ability with deep and solid base, and they can also handle high volume very well with little to no distortion. They fill out my surround system wonderfully but are small enough to sit on my end tables and not look at all obtrusive. These are terrific speakers, especially at this price point!
