4 of 5 Set the Record Straight Thursday, February 21, 2008 A Customer from Austin, Texas
The DCS-G900 has good value but the specifications listed on this web site are incorrect. The DCS-G900 has plastic, not glass lenses. Also its light sensitivity is 2.5 lumens, not .5. Room light is only marginally bright enough to produce a good image. Slightly dim lighting and the image becomes unacceptably gritty.
D-Link has stopped manufacturing the DCS-G900 which is suggestive of what they think about it. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great web camera Wednesday, November 28, 2007 ernestoz from Descanso, CA
Great little web camera, Shipped with version 1.0 firmware... easily updated the cameras with a later version of the firmware from Dlink's website. I have 3 cameras setup in the house and plan on adding more for our barn. One feature missing from the software is archiving of web cameras images locally, you could probably get by this if you loaded your own ftp or email server, something beyond the average consumer's skills. 4 of 5 Installation problems Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Valparaiso, Indiana USA
The install disc software did not work and may cause customers to return the product.
However, if you or a friend has skills in computer networking, router programming with gateway and server information ready, plus can make sure that the use via internet browser is only possible if your ISP account is a "BRIDGED ACCOUNT", then the camera works fine. Even my experienced friends spent 3 hours to "win"

4 of 5 A great product Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Ben from Irvine, CA
I have purchased a few DCS-G900 wireless cameras, which I have used for myself as well as for some of my customers. This camera does a pretty good job in general, but is not recommended for low light applications. The image quality is better that the normal CCTV cameras. It is easy to setup via the built-in web interface. The camera can also be remotely viewed and monitored from anywhere via the Internet if needed. I have even purchased View Commander from www.ivimg.com for my PocketPC/Phone edition, so I can view my office reception from time to time, and works pretty good. Note that my PocketPC has a 3G high-speed service, or I use Wi-Fi when available. Of cause, I would not use my PocketPC for long period monitoring as this will shorten the PocketPC battery life. For example, I would use my PocketPC to see is the Mail Man has dropped mail through the mail slot. A convenient feature is the fact that the camera is wireless, making it easy to mount anywhere without running any cabling. Only power is needed and a wireless router. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works great Sunday, November 25, 2007 A Customer from Pensacola, Florida
I've had the camera for a couple of months now. Picture quality is good for the money. As stated in other reviews, low light images are grainy. Installation & setup was pretty simple. Wireless works without a hitch. Dynamic DNS setup allows images/video to be viewable from the web. I'd buy this one again. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great - but wireless setup is tricky Wednesday, June 27, 2007 A Customer from Orange County, CA
Works great. To access remotely: Set a FIXED IP for camera, within your owh LAN then hook to router, connect with http:// and use wireless scan to pick an access point. If using WEP, set that, and if you want to view remotely, setup alternative port (like 8000) and use port forwarding in router to the fixed IP address of the camera. Then WIRED connection to camera MUST be disconnected to ENABLE the wireless, and you may have to turn off, then turn on the camera to reboot device.
Unplugging the wired cable wasn't clear in the manual, but that's the key to allow wireless link to be active. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Needs better heat dispersion Thursday, June 21, 2007 A Customer from Wilmington NC
Overall, a very good device. But will not function in a very warm enviroment. The symptoms are very slow responce and spurious emmisions that knock other close wireless devices off of the network. Also I would of liked better low light response. But for the money it does quite well and handles WPA security without a problem.
One thing that is not mentioned is that the wireless turns off when you have the wired ethernet connected. I was looking for a second MAC address and there isn't one as wired and wireless do not function separately. Was this review helpful?
3 of 4 customers found this review helpful. 4 of 5 Lots of Features Monday, September 25, 2006 Michael from Miami, FL.
I used this camera as a 24/7 Weather Cam for my website.
The camera is a nice small compact unit that can be mounted anywhere. The base/mount is attachable on the top or bottom of the camera and can be rotated to any angle.
The image quality in full light is pretty good, in low light it's extremely grainy. Camera supports resolution up to 640x480 which is a nice option.
The best part of this camera is the built in web interface. The camera will upload it's images/video to a ftp server or dynamic dns site automatically. This elliminates the need for third party webcam software. It will even log itself in to a pppoe server, isp, etc.
Brightness and contrast, hue adjustment, etc. is all included in the web interface.
The only feature I wish this camera had is time/date stamp on the image when not using the web interface viewer.
It's a great little camera packed with features for the price.
